Community Contest, part 5 | The tribute
By Titus
Right off the bat it was clear it would be a Colorfabb special material moment. Woodfill for the frame, clear XT for the Heated Bed and a nice miniature spool of XT. And finally I couldn't resist to also make a tiny bronze spool, which turned out to be so cute!
As everything snapped together, all of miniature land came to see, from the left to the right: the famous Dutch Lion that was uploaded in the wrong place, the tiny Easter Island head, the Louvre piramide that was printed as a test for the Colorfabb timelapse, and finally the Ultibot pair. Left of the two is the first print with my heated bed, there was a z-step error somewhere in the firmware so the fellow got a bit stretched out. His brother was the next generation and turned out to be just fine!
Settings: I used the standard settings for Colorfabb prints:
http://learn.colorfabb.com/print-_xt/
http://learn.colorfabb.com/print-bronzefill/
http://learn.colorfabb.com/how-to-print-with-woodfill/
With .2mm layerheight, 0.4 nozzle, 0.8 shell and 1.2 top/bottom, 20% fill.
Note: Mini Ulti was out of woodfill, so I used XT to push the woodfill through the bowden tube
Note2: As I was assembling Mini Ulti I dropped it and it broke :(Hence the scars.

Community Contest, part 5 | The tribute
By tinkergnome
I decided to make the frame from gold and bronze.
The intention was an extra motivation for the fire breathing successor
As an extra tribute i printed on a cold buildplate covered with bluetape.
During the print, some cute prying Ultimaker robots came by.
I really don't know where they came from, but they are very interested.
I guess they like the sound and the vibrations...
I think the UMO deserved itself a bit more color - it ended up in a lot of material changes.
The heated bed kit arrived just in time, i apologize for the stuff that is strewn all over the floor... i was in a hurry...

Mini UMO for the Community Contest, part 5 | The tribute
By peetersm
Check out the mini UMO printed on the UMO+. notice that it's already hacking itself! It just finished printing the sound dampening spring. Something I think every UMO needs to have.

Roof for my station
By zoev89
After some postprocessing since I printed to hot I reduced the temperature to 200 degrees it still needs some work. I will be making 6 or 7 of these sections

Failed Entry: Community Contest, part 4 | Going Dutch
By Titus
I failed to be able to participate in the contest as I didn't upload the print here, but here's the info anyway:
I put the lion in Meshmixer to cut it in 3 parts, measured out into how many red I had left in 1 piece. The white and blue pieces were cut in a way the white piece would have a nice bed adhesion surface.

Olsson Block .25mm nozzle test
By joelmongeon
This is my first test of my new Olsson block with .25mm nozzle. Quite impressed with the amount of detail I get with a smaller nozzle.
.08mm layer height, 185 C temp and 18mm/sec print time. I used Toybuilderlabs cool grey (Esun filament).
Only thing slightly bothering me is the color banding. It is not all one color but surface quality is the same across the whole print.
I tried printing the same model with simplify 3d and gave up. My retraction settings caused tons of stringing. Going back to Cura and I had no problems!

Emmanuel Print for Bronze
By joelmongeon
My Emmanuel model printed from my gallery series http://www.joelmongeon.com/Gallery.html
Printed on my Ultimaker 2 I took a class this past summer on bronze casting where I created the mold and wax shell for the final bronze piece.
I've added more photos showing the process.

PROYECTO MARIA by COMME DES MACHINES
By suso
Comme des Machines is obsessed with the idea that 3D printing has useful, efficient and daily applications (and not just stunning but cumbersome garments for advertisement or catwalks), that’s why we have created a whole look in which we combine 3D printing on fabric, 3D printing for findings, 3D printing for soles, 3D printing for accessories... that, besides, can be washed at home.
Newly released, this project has already caught up the interest of some brands that want to introduce it to their new collections.
There is lot of work to be done yet since 3D printers are not capable to do this sort of job in a industrial way. PROYECTO MARIA is pure digital craft.

Recycled Polypropylene
By 3dcase
My first PP print .
Made my own filament from recycled material.
Very hard to keep it stuck on the buildplate though.
Using normal household tape worked best for now.

Lost PLA bronze casting resolution test
By joelmongeon
This was a test I made to see how viable lost PLA casting is and at what resolution would I need to print at. These PLA prints were not cast in wax but rather vested and burnt out directly. This saves on a lot fo time and money although the print being cast needs to be perfect.
From left to right is a .04mm print, .06mm print and a .1mm print. The .06mm and .1mm prints have clear resoltion lines in the final bronze.
You can see some of the original prints at .06mm and .1mm. The striations are still visible in the bronzes. Only the .04mm prints seems to be fine enough not to need any clean up.
The model is scan data from the http://www.3dscanstore.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=540

Lost PLA bronze cast
By joelmongeon
This is a test of lost PLA bronze casting. Instead of creating a mold and a wax copy from that, I directly vested my PLA print in bronze.
The results are decent although I now prefer lost wax as it is easier to clean up and remove layer artifacts from wax than it is from PLA.
