  4. Silent printing...

Model is the Robot Drone from Silent Running (1971). It consists of several parts, that are glued together.
For some parts I changed the filament color at certain heights (it's not painted in any way).

  8. Dossier Holder (Long print - changing filament)

My daughter needed some dossier holder to be used in a large drawer so I came up with this design. Nothing too special although for me it was the first multi-day print as it would take about 45 hrs to print. All went fine although I noticed at some point I was running out of filament. I quickly checked the forum trying to find best ways of changing filament during print but couldn't get quick confirmation on best possible way of doing this (all ways seem to have some pro/cons/risks of bad prints). In the end I went for "soldering" 2 filaments together.
    What I did (during printing):
    - Took off the filament spool of the holder
    - Took off the remaining filament of the spool
    - Took a new spool of filament
    - Made a straight cut in both filaments
    - Heated a soldering iron (not sure about the temp as I can't configure that, I just didn't let it completely heat up)
    - Put both end against the soldering iron until it melts a bit
    - Then quickly put both ends together
    - Once firm, I went with the soldering iron over it again to somehow smooth it little more
From then, I just hoped it would hold, not clutter and print well.
Luckily, it work pretty well. As you can see in one of the images, there is some under extrusion at some point which is for sure when the connected filament got used. But you need to look pretty close to see it so happy with the final result.
Having said that, would love to hear if there are any better ways to change filament when you run out during a print.

  9. Ultimaker 2 dual head

...I'm trying to get the UM2 working with dual head.
Now it is working almost good, one of the biggest problems is slicing software with good functions like prime pillar and ooze shield.
Simplify 3D works, but has also some issues with dual extrusion.
In Cura I can't find any support for dual extrusion!?

  15. Ultimaker 2 Breathable Electronics Enclosure

I wanted an enclosure for the UM2 that allowed the electronics to breathe more.
I had a hard time getting this to work. At first I tried to put all of the holes in the bottom face in the part model. But all those little perimeters made it difficult to print.
So I made the bottom side of the enclosure solid in the model.
In the slicer software (S3D), I set the number of top and bottom layers both to zero. And I set the number of shells to 10.
It didn't print perfect, but it printed better than any of my previous attempts.

  21. Grayscale can (linear halftoning)

This is an example of a grayscale print that can be achieved with an unmodified Ultimaker 3. This was designed and textured by Beerend Groot.
Greyscale printing is achieved using a technique known as linear halftoning. With most 3D prints, you are limited to monochrome, but this allows you to print items in two colors, giving an item enhanced depth, definition, and realism when compared to a monochrome print.
I have written an article about it here.
The feature is not implemented properly in to Cura at this time, but there are instructions of how to test it (for experienced users!) instructions for this and a discussion on the forum can be found here.

  23. 3D Printed Drag Knife

To improve the CNC Router and not just to drill stuff, I also wanted to cut materials like cardboard, vinyl, paper, etc.
Before to buy a lasercut, I did find in Internet a very interesting tool to transform the Spindle into a cutting machine.
I wanted to buy the knife tool, but my spindle collet is 8mm, and most of the tools I saw doesn´t fit on it, so I decide to make my own, and after some failed prototypes and test, I made one that until now, after several test it works just great!.
The blade can be coupled in two different positions, with a cut depth of 6mm or 10mm.
    Component list:
    - 2x bearings with 8mm inner diameter
    - 1x 8mm x 50mm rod
    - 2x collar
    - 9x M3 30mm screws with nuts and washers
    - 2x M3 16mm screws with nuts and washers
    - Blades
I spend like 30€ on components, but that´s because I bought more than I needed, just to have spare parts, and the 3D printed parts, cost like 2€ with a 2,2kg Colorfabb XT Spoon.
