  1. Hi bobby, Welcome. Since you are from NZ, you have to visit Media Design School.. They also own two Ultimakers. I was there Last year giving the first 3D Printer and printing workshops. have fun!
  2. .5 is out and runs.. im testing right now.

    Ultimaker beizen?

Sieht super aus! das hab ich noch gefunden.. Für leute die Sprüh-farbe bevorzugen: http://blog.ultimaker.com/2013/06/14/guest-post-how-to-spray-paint-your-ultimaker/
  4. Cool! a non-ultimaker using cura. I suggest to manually extract/retract at the beginning before printing. i call that handpriming cant go easier than that. but i also missed to have that feature. i came in from replicatogG.. there was a nice controller window to access everything the printer can do. however on a ultimaker with controller you should be still able to do this without touching any cogwheels. but you cant move the z-plattform that way since you have a non-ultimaker thats a problem X) i would love to have a stable Cura implemented in Repetier as a slicer... lets hope for the next release..
  5. cool thanks Daid. this version starts fine on my machine. but after slicing finishes i switch to layer-view and thers nothing to see there. Gcode save button is greyed out. i guess i use 13.04 for now..
  6. hehe didnt see that post.. same here
  7. as suggested by its predecessor i installed the newest version cura 13.06.4 i cant start it. I tried clean install it (removed all previous versions of cura) didnt helped out. im not shure if the removal worked.. I used CleanApp for this. Wheni try to start Cura says: Cura error after i start with terminal i get the same error. If it helps, heres the terminal output: Last login: Thu Jun 27 00:41:08 on ttys000 Rootiuss-MacBook-Pro:~ rootius$ /Applications/Cura/Cura.app/Contents/MacOS/Cura ; exit; Traceback (most recent call last): File "/Applications/Cura/Cura.app/Contents/Resources/__boot__.py", line 338, in <module> _run() File "/Applications/Cura/Cura.app/Contents/Resources/__boot__.py", line 333, in _run exec(compile(source, path, 'exec'), globals(), globals()) File "/Applications/Cura/Cura.app/Contents/Resources/cura.py", line 14, in <module> from Cura.util import profile File "Cura/util/profile.pyo", line 12, in <module> "exec" statement, and an optional file name. 8. ahaha My Anti-Autoslicing brethren, gather and lets go over to Daids house with pitchforks and torches, now. atleast i want his "odd look" to be satified over the loss of the button! just kidding I just have to severely adapt myself to it. i like the new split and combine functions and the zoom pan settings. but its still very strange for me not to click a button to have something sliced.

    Ultimaker beizen?

  10. So you want to print a hollow object. a cube with a smaller sphere subtracted from it. If this is done correctly in a 3D software... Boleean operations.. A+B A-B... The 3D Printer shoud also understand it the same way. it should print correct. However, if your 3D mesh has some holes in it or other flaws. lets say if the cube and sphere touch each other. This can make things difficult. Most 3D Printsoftware try to repair things but they also can fail...
  11. The "lay Flat" option helps sometimes. I suggest you use the 3D software in wich you designed the object. i can make a small gravity simulation and drop it virtually in cinema4d.
  12. I am already back to version 13.04... slicing speed is not that important! Too much has been cut away in this version.. mainly funtions that are truly essential for me. the stl export option is the only thing useful i found in this version so far.
  13. Agree with most of Corngolem crits. The Supershaper is very cool feature... not very necessary. What i realy realy dont like is the missing Prepare button... i mean, What the hell?!? why? Now everytime i load a stl, Cura will automatically start slicing without giving me any time to scale or rotate. Thats clearly wrong... The good thing: The option to safe the rotation/scale/mirror changes made in Cura back into .stls Thanks, i needed this. Problems came with my birdhouse.. After loading everything went grey.. no automated slicing started to happen. Strange. I just cant scale to a size where i am back to seeing the blue ultimaker build plattform. Very often all buttons disappear, only the Load button stays.. And later testing this happened: some of my Stls seem to have some sort of gathering.
  14. Its a good routine anyway.. you can save a lot of your time stopping bad prints before wasting alot of plastics. even if i have a perfect gcode combined with my reasonable calibration it can happen that the first layer doesnt stick properly and everywhere or it is smushed a tad bit too hard it creates backpressure.. when we have automated bed leveling implemented in Ultimaker , then you can go and print on unattended machines for the rods i have these: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:54075 nice and adjustable...
  15. If you manually override the tempsettings in gcodes from cura you have to know what you are doing... I dont have the machine running when i calibrate the bed. i do this by eye checking the distance in 4 corners next to the setscrews. needs some precision.. and of course has to be redone EVERY time after a rough Print removal or the buildplate has been removed from the printer..
  16. cool. thanks glad to hear that you are alredy tackling all problems btw would be nice to use the colourchange to show if its original data or unsaved data.. i didnt check if cura saves the mirroring action to a .stl but that would be a nice feature to have.. but better save as a copy with nameextension like: "mirroredXYZ"
  17. thers a cloudcomputed Meshrepairing service.. is beta, u cant interact, but its free. worked quite good for me. does not complaint about big meshsize. http://cloud.netfabb.com/index.php The free Netfabb Engine Basic can repair quite good. instantly shows the mistakes/overlaps/holes and more in red. I really wasnt aware of how many errors i produce in my 3D Design process before i got this piece of software. I dont recomend Meshlab.. has awesoeme tools but it crashes all the time.
  18. Hi Guys i realy like most of the changes you did to Cura. Moving objects: I just completely miss the option to move things around on the printbed.. even in project planner i cant do this anymore.. do i miss a shortcut to press? Then a strange behaviour occured: As i noticed later, i started a print that was slightly too big(x-axis) because of the raft i added.. the printer started to print nomal, but with half the speed i expected and in mid air... the Display stated something like "endstop hit detected" but the printer would continue to print.. after a minute i stopped it manually, but i actually thought/hoped that a endswitch-hit would do that for me.. Instantly. 3DViewer problem: Mirror Object can cause it to turn black sometimes.. remirror brings it back to its colourshading. Black parts still print normal... see pic: still have these speedproblems: Slicing works normal fast, but its like watching snails when opening MacOS dialogs to save or import. I wonder where this comes from, because i have a speed optimized Macbookpro with up to 8 cores, 8gigs of ram, fast graphiccard. Even including both MacOS and cura running from a lightning fast SSD Drive... i tryed and had cura run from an emulated windowsXP virtual machine.. on the same laptop... the windows pop up faster.
  19. Hi just wanted to drop in.. no big issues with the app so far. nice Interface. its a bit more laggy and slow with big .stl files than previous versions. (12) But... the app still loads the last opened file when started, wich of course is a pain in the ass if it was a big file. question to all mac users.. do you have the same issue? i noticed the overall multiscreen experience on a mac has a lot of drawbacks lately.. tryed to fullscreen a movie or podcast in itunes and have the other screen stay a normal screen. somehow its not possible.. i am getting grayscreeen on the second monitor... anyone knows how to bypass this?
  20. nice interface cant wait to test that
  21. Hi guys, I just installed Cura 12.12 and testing it. (MacOS 10.8.2 Macbookpro) Interface is very slow and laggy sometimes (not all the time but very often) I have the yellow tooltips flicker around like crazy... also when a big stl file is loaded. not the moving and rotating the mesh, i mean the klicking the textfields to change settings is very laggy and i have to wait some time until the flicker stops, my changes are accepted and displayed. :( The first Cura i used didnt had this "feature"..(12.10) Then Cura on every start loads the last used .stl. I dont know why we would want Cura to do this... but if its needed i need a button to unload a .stl then. I think starting with a "empty" cura would fasten things up. Dont use special characters like "öäü" letters in the filename!!! it stops slicing after miliseconds and shows just the button "show log". and the message "Something went wrong during slicing!" when i click to the show gcode i can sometimes make it show up and it also look like a normal gcode. but the actual gcode file is empty... and wont open in other gcode viewers or texteditors. my error log looks like this: Traceback (most recent call last): File "app_main.py", line 51, in run_toplevel File "/Applications/Cura/Cura.app/Contents/Resources/pypy/lib-python/2.7/runpy.py", line 162, in _run_module_as_main "__main__", fname, loader, pkg_name) File "/Applications/Cura/Cura.app/Contents/Resources/pypy/lib-python/2.7/runpy.py", line 72, in _run_code exec code in run_globals File "/Applications/Cura/Cura.app/Contents/Resources/Cura/cura.py", line 78, in main() File "/Applications/Cura/Cura.app/Contents/Resources/Cura/cura.py", line 67, in main sliceRun.runSlice(args) File "Cura/util/sliceRun.py", line 89, in runSlice skeinforge_craft.writeOutput(fileName) File "Cura/cura_sf/skeinforge_application/skeinforge_utilities/skeinforge_craft.py", line 133, in writeOutput return pluginModule.writeOutput(fileName, shouldAnalyze) File "/Applications/Cura/Cura.app/Contents/Resources/Cura/cura_sf/skeinforge_application/skeinforge_plugins/craft_plugins/export.py", line 266, in writeOutput print('File ' + archive.getSummarizedFileName(fileName.encode('ascii', 'replace')) + ' is being chain exported.') UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xcc in position 50: ordinal not in range(128)[/i]
  22. maybe rotating the object helps. but miss this function too. for the solid part, in cura go to expert settings and choose a different infill pattern.
  24. i have to point out that the shapercube is way louder when printing than a ultimaker. its slower but after proper calibration and depending on your nozzle you can make very precise prints with it.
  25. Metric System Rulez! All Openscource projects are( or atlest should be) made in metric system. but you can have this issue with cinema4d in metric system too... its just easier to see 1:100 or 100:1. You should set the standard import and export size values in the preferences of cinema4d to the desired scale and have correct export for your 3D Printer.. just remember this when working on a new project that shouldnt be scaled on import/export.
