  1. I downloaded and installed Cura on my pc. I uploaded firmware - seemed to be ok I ran the installation pages of Cura BUT the heating element did not function, so I could not test the extrusion length or move forward Checking, the heating element works with ReplicatorG24 Why does it not work with Cura? Thanks, EM
  2. no, I did not download Marlin I just copied it from https://github.com/ErikZalm/Marlin but how do I install it 1) on my pc? 2) on my iMac? Is Marlin the replacement of SkeinForge? - see how far back I am? Thanks, EM
  3. I installed SF44 (2011-10-08) but the printing is miserable - no flow with the go - so I have the flow rate(128) at 4x the feed rate (16) and it is still miserable, no where near the glorious speeds I read in exciting, enthusiastic blogs wazzitdoin? EM
  4. Thanks - I'll do it are there pitfalls to avoid? are there cook=book recipes and acceptable ranges of parameters? I find so, so, so many variables and it is hard to know which are important, and which values to use. EM
  5. I am using Ultimaker v1.0 5D firmware, with Skeinforge 35. The print rate is 16mm/s and the flow rate is 10mm/s, the temperature is 210C
  6. The PLA thread tends to form little balls on the tip as the thread is being deposited - they make the surface lumpy and unattractive feed, flow, and temperature seem to be the major variable any suggestions? thanks, EM -even worse, the flow stops 3 hrs into a 7hr printing job - it seems a plug forms at about the brass tube position and the PLA stops feeding I am stopped by this most of the time I need help - any suggestions??? thanks also, EM
  7. Question: the PLA thread keeps balling up on the tip of the nozzle and not being deposited cleanly on the growing piece; I imagine three variable are relevant: feed rate, flow rate, and temperature. Anyone have any experience solving this problem? how about cleaning and care of the brass nozzle any suggestions? Secondly, I bought and installed ball bearing races for the PLA spool to minimize friction and let the bolt work on feeding the PLA tubing.
  8. I have a relatively new (2-month-old) Ultimaker. I have conservatively tried to work with Skeinforge 35, but the number of parameters in PLA-Ultimaker-failsave v1 is overwhelming help files such as http://wiki.makerbot.com/configuring-skeinforge are minimally helpful, partially because it is not a good fit and partially because it is sketchy. can someone point me to a consistent set of parameters? I'm willing to try newer Skeinforge files, but I need to be sure that I have all the files, so as not to be left guessing. many thanks! EM
  9. Daid, How do I get the new versions you suggested? My current choices are Skeinforge 31,35,40, and standard EM I
  10. I have a new Ultimaker printer and am just learning how to use it I find that only Skeinforge (35) with PLA Ultimaker failsafe v1. feeds PLA after the initial setup and - without PLA feed, nothing gets drawn any suggestions? thanks, EM
