  1. Hi @Mozzarella2, welcome to the community and forums, and thank you for the feedback. We're sorry if the website has not been working for you as intended. As we speak we are very busy doing maintenance and improvements to the site, hopefully we'll be able to see the fruits of this hard work soon. In regard of the chatroom, it is an embedded Kiwi IRC chatroom. It asks for a separate nickname besides your Ultimaker account. You don't necessarily need to log in as such, but you have to give a nickname. Perhaps this is where some of the confusion lies? The menu is indeed a (reported) bug. It does not have anything to do with speed, sometimes the first attempt it just disappears, but the second time it just stays as it should. Regarding Github, in our community hall of fame is a link to our github account. Can you elaborate on your CSRF token feedback? Thank you!
  2. Hi @Sniped1928, welcome to the Ultimaker community! What version of Cura are you using? In the latest version, Cura 2.4.0, you can go to settings > printer > manage printer > machine settings; and there you can find the printhead settings. You should be able to alter the settings to match your actual printhead. I think that should change the reference in Cura. Let us know how it goes!
  3. @Brunbjoern, congratulations and welcome to the forums! Like some have already mentioned, there are a few tricks you can do that will make your ABS prints easier, I would certainly look at those. Especially the door. We have an advanced 3D printing kit that has a door and some adhesion sheets you could look at, but if you are mostly interested in the door you might as well be better off to make one your self. There are a few options on YouMagine. Cura has some pretty good default profiles for ABS, however, they are customized for Ultimaker ABS. So I can't tell you if they will work similarly to Verbatim ABS. I assume your Ultimaker 2+ will also come with 1 reel of PLA? I would like to recommend you start with PLA first. That way you can get familiar with the printing process, how the material behaves and how the bed works. PLA is easier to print with and will allow you to get familiar with the machine and build some confidence. Then, you should know what to aim for when you start with ABS. Good luck, and curious to see what you will be making
  4. I can appreciate your choice of words, sir.
  5. The suggestion from peetersm was presented to our software dev's to verify and they said it was true. I can very well imagine there are modifications or hacks to work around this, but I think it would be clever to talk about 'the intended way' which is what most users will experience. If the new Cura overrides the old one, this would be a justified note to include.
  6. Hi @Jeremie, thank you for your feedback. Of course everyone is entitled to form its own opinion, and hopefully you feel no reluctance to share yours with us in the future too. For now, if everything has been said that needed to be said, it is also fine. Both points of views seem pretty clear. The most important factor; time, will tell how this plays out. We have no bad intentions or motives to share less, and time will prove us right or wrong. We have always been an open platform where everything can be discussed. It makes sense that if people care about something, emotions can take the upper hand. In that regard, I think we are nothing different. Have a great day, and looking forward hearing from you again in the future! FYI, the link in your post didn't work, so I changed it to (I think) the page you wanted to share.
  7. Hi @Pearce, welcome to the forums and thank you for your contribution! I'm sorry to hear you consider it a big mistake, we are aware of the load this subject carries. Money could indeed be spent on hiring more engineers, however, spending it this way by building a portfolio that complements our defensive strategy, hopefully, we can ensure we even have a future. The Ultimaker 3 enters a market where lawsuits become a way of doing business. And we can not afford to go in unprepared and vulnerable. The amount of money invested in this strategy is only a fragment of what a lawsuit would cost to prove we invented something first over a large enterprise or be dragged to court when we have no defensive strategy at all. Worst case scenario we would not be able to innovate or hire any engineers at all anymore.. As stated in our post, it is not meant to slow down innovation and as tradition we will continue to share our Ultimaker 3 files over Github, for our users to use. Outside of this point, we have a full set of talented and dedicated engineers of who I am sure will bring you some amazing innovations. If you have any further questions I'm looking forward hearing from you!
  8. Thanks @Peetersm, we are going to add this to the page / release notes. (I like the highlander reference.. that was a cool show But maybe we'll have to leave that out of the official mentioning )
  9. I have coated a cylinder that was printed in transparent Nylon at around 200 micron, with xtc 3D and it got pretty clear! Not window clear but I could clearly see the 'background' (what was behind the cylinder) through it.
  10. Have you checked if your short belts are tight enough? If there is slack in them they could allow for some misallignment.
  11. There are some users involved in testing this modification to determine if it could be fit for a larger scale use @foehnsturm knows best, chances are that there will be an update anytime soon. If you quickly read over the last 2 pages of this thread I think there are a couple of mentions of this project.
  12. Sorry to be blunt but your reply is a raw fallacy: you want me to sound like I do not want Ultimaker to do business (and in turn, you sound like patents are the only way to pay people!?). But Ultimaker did and does a great job at finding money to pay its employees and even hire more! Personal mortgages are quite irrelevant to justify patents - you are right, we have done a good job and things have gone well. Through a lot of effort, blood, sweat and tears of everyone involved. But we have no intention to halt or stop, we see room to grow more. We also don't think that this necessarily comes at the cost of our community, but we would be naive to think it would not require an addition to how we operate now. This room lies among others in different territories where we have to prepare ourselves for. Thanks. A healthy dosis of sceptism is fine and ok. Our attitude defines who we are and sets the direction for the future. I believe it depends a bit on the exact law in the area, but generally I believe makers are indeed out of scope. Does not mean everyone knows this or does not mean people might feel worried. Adding this hopefully takes some of that worry away. That is where our reference to a defensive patent comes into play. We are not after sueing anyone. It is meant as a mean of defense, having the option to strike back when forced to. We prefer far more they were left untouched and everyone can continue to contribute and push on the boundaries of 3D printing. It is totally fine, we are open to have an open and reasonable conversation about it. From a personal perspective, I would appreciate it if we would not be condemned before a crime is committed. Therefore I think a healthy level of skepticism is totally fine, and let time tell the rest. As you previously stated, we have a loyal user base due to our attitude. Let that be a sign of the future. But in general I feel like most people understand this and we are on the same page.
  13. They look amazing @Neotko! What are they for? Am I not getting 'Fell the dark side' or did I catch you on a typo?
  14. Actually I meant what you probably understood in your initial reply When you print something which reaches to the far front of your build plate, if your print head doesn't collide with your door. But it seemed like no problem for you
  15. whoaaa, congratulations @Livein3D )))))
  16. Hi @Tiger91, Congratulations on getting your Ultimaker 3, exciting!! Do you already know what you will be using it for mostly? PrintedSolid is a good source for materials and I am sure @gr5 and @lepaul might have some good suggestions too. What would you like to test? Accuracy or dual color or dual extrusion? If you go through youmagine.com and look for torture test or stress test you are bound to find some interesting models! Good luck
  17. Does it stick out far enough for your print head to reach the edge of your build plate in the front? Looks like a nice design!
  18. Well I guess @Nallath did a great job in answering most of the questions and concerns that were shared here. Thanks! It is a new step / strategy for Ultimaker so it makes sense it raises some questions. Keep them coming @Titus, did it answer your question? To be clear, with the fear of repeating myself, this is in no way meant to limit our innovation or will influence how we interact with our community. @Nallath also made a strong reference to the "Open Invention Network" Check it out. This was also mostly addressed already (To get back on your previous request for reconsideration, the warranty-statement is being looked at and I heard some good things). I think the following statement and intention regarding this thread should be pretty clear regarding our intentions: from the Ultimaker blog;
  19. ..Wait what? Yep, that is right. Ultimaker just filed its first patent. But don’t worry, we come in peace. It won’t influence our users in any way and Ultimaker remains supportive to the open source community. We did feel it was important to be open about this and tell you exactly what is happening and why. So let’s get right to it. What is happening? Like the title suggests, Ultimaker filed its first patent. The patent contains the technology we know as ‘Active Bed leveling’ in the Ultimaker 3. Feel free to grab a coffee, because this is heavy stuff. We managed to capture and summarize this feature in one comprehensive sentence: ‘According the present invention a print bed levelling system of the type defined in the preamble is provided, wherein the print bed levelling system comprises a nozzle head assembly movably arranged with respect to a substantially flat print bed member, the nozzle head assembly comprising one or more nozzle bodies each having a nozzle end, and a contactless sensor member disposed at a print bed engagement end of the nozzle head assembly, wherein the contactless sensor member comprises a sensing surface in sensing engagement with the print bed member over a relative sensing range between a distal sensing position and a proximal sensing distance. - Reference: NL2015361’ Owning a patent is one thing, but how we act upon it is another. This is where we feel we can continue to make a difference. Our behavior will not change, nor our attitude or how we interact with our users. But we still feel we should be open and share this with you so there will be no eerie surprises. Why is this necessary? So, if Ultimaker’s behavior is not going to change, why is the patent necessary? Well, with the Ultimaker 3 in particular, we are tapping into a new market of enterprises and competitors who play a whole different game. Forcing the competition out of the market through lawsuits and court is not uncommon. And we need to be prepared. Hence this defensive strategy. For this reason, you should realize we will not enforce any of these muscles on our users. We are still the open company you have grown familiar with and we will continue to support collaborations with our users and continue to stimulate research. At the same time, we are aware of the sensitive nature of this subject and how you might think it could affect our open nature. It won’t. Ultimaker will remain to support the open source community. A new road is ahead in which we are still busy formalizing all the challenges but we are confident we can address the needs for both you and this new corporate scene without losing our unique identity. We acknowledge our roots and we feel like we can introduce some of this openness into the corporate world. But we prefer not to do it blindfolded and vulnerable. Next steps? Ultimaker won’t change. Ultimaker 3 files will still be shared through our Github account like you're used to from us. Our product portfolio will continue to grow and new products will be added that will compliment your needs and/or the needs of engineers in corporate enterprises. To have a future in this new landscape, and to continue to offer you the level of service and openness you grew accustomed to, new patents will be added to our portfolio in the future. For the same defensive reasons. We will generate a separate section on our website where you can read more about them. And hopefully, we can even use this to give you some more insights in the developments that are going on within Ultimaker. We also wrote a blog post about it, click here if you want to read that too.
  20. There was a discussion about this recently. You won't void warranty on your Ultimaker by adding a 3rd party box, however if this box is the root for damages inflicted on your Ultimaker that won't be covered by warranty. On the other hand, if something would happen with your Ultimaker which is completely unrelated to this box, you are still good. Let me know if you have any further questions about this.
  21. That would be our very own @gr5! Perhaps he has some additional tips for you
  22. That would be pretty accurate How does that look to you, does that give you the confidence you need to consider replacing your cartridge heater?
  23. The heater cartridge is not that difficult to replace. The PT100 is a bit more sensitive. Perhaps it is some fiddling getting all the wires through the hole, but if your current heater is restricting you I would definitely consider replacing it for a 40 or 50W heater.
  24. @krys, I was gonna say.. last time I checked I was Ultimaker people ;)But thank you for not calling me a jerk. (yet) So, following your response and my reply, coming from Ultimaker, what do you think? (or anyone else for that matter). I hear the feedback, and from a user perspective I agree it doesn't sound very nice, but from a manufacturer perspective, it is not that easy (i.e. many things are easier said than done). But I am curious and excited to see if we can find common ground.
  25. It is a difficult and grey area. On one hand we are open and we feel that as a user you should be free to experiment and adapt your workspace to what your project requires. We hope with Ultimaker we can play a versatile role in there. On the other hand, we can only really guarantee our equipment will work, with (in this case) Ultimaker filaments. That is what we have tested, and know will work. It is not uncommon for a (new) user to blame the hardware when bad third party filament is (mis)used. Outside of those/our filaments, there is a whole spectrum of materials ranging from home-made plastic to quality filament like Colorfabb. Specifying/categorizing that list would be an endless job that would require endless updating, and would probably only result in more discussion. I have not been part of the discussion on these specific claims, but generally, I understand legal 'claims' must be clear. In a response to @Geert_2's comment that a claim should rather sound like: 'or by people who do not understand the technology and the inherent risks'. How would you quantify understanding or not understanding the technology? Again I foresee endless discussions. When it is no longer an abstract claim, and there is a real user with a real problem which may or may not be caused by 3rd party filament, I like to think that we (or our partners) always talk with our users and will look openly at what happened and come to a reasonable solution. We have always looked after our users and will always do. Even at the marketing department, make sure you hold on to your seat @UltiArjan, we care about the open source values We do! We are also a part of Ultimaker, and if we, and the whole company for that matter, would not agree on fundamental cornerstones of our identity, we would not be working at Ultimaker. I also want to stress I fully agree with 'And yes, openness includes freedom of speech.' and have no issues with UltiArjan's post. ... I have seen worse The forum has always been an open discussion platform. Like @Geert_2 said, if we can't talk about problems, we can't solve them. Every healthy discussion should lead to either validation of what we are doing or improvement.
