  1. I've got something similar... I'm working on understanding the netfabb buildstyle parameters and material parameters. I think that the 'comb' in netfabb doesn't work good yet. I have prints with string in the middle of objects, (hole or not). I think I will work on the retract of the filament during the zmoves and jumps. I saw that during z moves and jumps the extruder gear stops but maybe we need to create a little under-pressure in the nozzle just to stop PLA from exiting the nozzle. anyway your calibration circle is quit good and you can remove the inside strings after printed. I read something about NOT TO USE the calibration of netfabb however and I printed everything since my first without messing with the calibration routine.
  2. WIth the routine I wrote down in the post I had print a simple cube. from now on I continue to try and try and try again tweaking profiles. The paramenters in netfabb are really powerful and you have to tweak them one at a time to understand the effect. first: the original material profile doesn't work good for me and my silver PLA. I NEED a temp of about 210-220 C° to print. 2. the distance between extrusor head and base is fundamental and you have to check it AFTER you put the blue tape on it. I use a simple paper strip and adjust the screws in the for corners again and again to level it and after that I had to move the screws again to LOWER or RAISE the bed and to make the PLA stitch on it. 3. rub the blue tape (better if you use orthogonal layers of blue tape) with alcool to remove the wax from the tape and make it sticky for the hot pla (this works a lot and it is hard to dtach the printed piece after) 4.turn off the fan for the first layers. if I don't do that the PLA won't stick good for the first layers. (after a lot of time on netfabb I made a profile with 2 regions, a <10 layer and a >10layer with the fan off and on, and it works...sometimes...) 5.netfabb sometimes act weird. I mean a lot weird. if I disconnect and reconnect the UM sometimes netfabb starts to move the extruder backward and remove the filament from the head... sometimes it seems to print in double dimension and half the speed, sometimens simply doesn't give any feedback on my commands... 6. start with a STANDARD profile. the standard material (0.150 layers) with the standard profile work quite good and is already a wonderful quality. about your picture, it has a lot of stringing, I think it depends on the FINE extrusion (very little pla extruded) with the fan on. it freeze the pla filament as soon as it exit the head. I'm a newbie too but it seems that the your extruder is too low on your bed ( I can be wrong). I printed several 'things' like yours, I noted that when the head is too low it melt the previous layer and start to make strings and little blobs of pla aroudn the nozzle that detach after a while and ruins the print. anyway, printing like the good pictures showed by the masters on the forum is really a pain in the ...
  3. I'm sure your code is correct and fully functional, the problem is on my side but I can't imagine what to tweak to solve it. tha ati catalyst control center doesn't give access but to a few parameters regarding opengl. Anyway I tried cura and printrun and it worked also without the 3d preview... Something to change about top layer, but it printed very well.
  4. the preview windows for sure is refreshing, after having inserted the 'print ondraw' line, on the python screen appears the text at every single movement of (attempted movemente of) zoom or pan or orbit in the preveiw window. I don't know... I read something about the gltranslate but nothing useful to my non python mind...
  5. Daid, I really thank you or your effort, I know that this is a problem inside my PC and not a problem on CURA, I tried cura on 3 different pc and it works like a dream on them. I will try the 'print 'onDraw' ' just to see if something happens... thank you very much.
  6. MAY DAY ! MAY DAY ! Any advice on HOW to solve the 'black screen' problem in the 3d preview window of CURA ? Latest directx installed latest video driver (ati) installed win 7 64 bit (aero disabled) at this time, after having disabled 'aero' desktop the 3d preview window seems to refresh (it show no garbage when maximized) but no 3d graphic inside, only a discouraging black... :-(
  7. I just tried to set glerrorchecking = TRUE but the dos box shows nothing. of course the preview3d is still black... more: If I try to enlarge the window (maximizing it or just some cm with the mous, the preview window doesn't refresh and the graphics remain like garbage on the enlarged preview window
  8. the window is black, but the white grid ( I saw that on another pc...) doesn't appear nor the object I load. Maybe I have to modify something in the OPENGL setiing of my ati card, but I remember I leave all the opengl settings untouched after installation of my videocard drivers.
  9. We're lucky, i'm a quite good ex-programmer so changing some text wouldn't be a problem. I am going to try this one and report you the errors. thanks
  10. yes... and the videocard driver are updated. I know it's strange... if you want to know something else about my pc ask me freely. anyway I have an SSD, 3 HDD, a DVDRW, a reclusa keyboard and a smple usb mouse. No errors in the system/hardware and anything else works good.  I'm quite happy with NFabb but I really wish to try CURA and partecipate to its development with some tests. thanks Daid
  11. Just installed cura RC1, the same story... no graphic window. my config is core duo e6850 4gb ram win7 64 ati hd5870 what can I do?
  12. You are right as usual, my endstop were inverted ( my double check during the build wasn't enough...) and when I put them the right way all problems with xyz home are ended... Thanks!
  13. Hello, I use netfabb engine but I wish to try cura and printrun. I installed it on 2 different pc, a core duo with xp and a core duo with win7 64bit. on the first one everything seems ok, on my win7 64bit machin (My UM is connected to this pc...) When I unzip the cura package and launch the cura.bat file, a command windows appears for a flash (it read something like can't find such directory... or similar) and nothing happens. Only when I unzipped the cura package INTO my skeinpypy folder cura.bat seems to work BUT... When I load an object nothing appears in the graphic window. THe 3d button or the TOP button don't work and I can't see the object. If I try the 'slice to gcode' something appears in the command window and it seems that the softwar is working, no gcode is produced and nothing is readt to print (if I use the print gcode button nothing happens...) please help me, Netfabb is good but I wish to have some test with cura/printrun. thanks
  14. just finished my first 100% success print! it is the classic 20mm cube (replicatorg calibration model) and here all newbies can find the correct workflow for netfabb (Please correct this in every aspect if you wish, I could have missed or misplaced something...): before using netfabb: 1) check if your arduino board is installed or download the driver (they are also in the replicatorg forlder) and install the usbserial driver (this will make appear a COM3...your arduino board) 2)download replicatorg and install the latest marlin firmware (v3) 3)now ou can use netfabb 4.9 to print: 1) create or download an object 2) load it in netfabb 3) check if all is correct and in case repair it with the standard repair routine of netfabb 4) in the USBcontrol section connect the ultimaker. if something is wrong check in the machine section...ultilmaker...the correct comport and baud rate (I use 115200) 5)when you're connected go to the usbcontrol and in the subsection ACTION click the move to home. this will move the head to the home position 0,0,0 (be sure to check and doublecheck our UM endcourse switches) 6)in the USB control section-EXTRUDER set a temperature to preheat your head (I mean your extruder-head...) I use 185-200 7)if this is the first UM power-on you can enjoy and check the movement by using the MOVEMENT subsection in the USBcontrol panel. try the movement all around several times and check the switches. after that reclick the MOVE to HOME in the action subsection (step 5) 8)in the print section set the object at the center (little button on the right of the right panel) 9) chose the raft type if you want, after several attempts I use the pillar raft because it gives a good sticky base for the object and stitch good on the blue tape 10)if you have a filled solid set the distance for the inside filling (more distance, less filling) 11)check the 'keep objects on platformì checkbox ! 12)click calculate toolpath and enjoy the speed of netfabb...you are sliceing it with netfabb selecting the right (for you) build style and material style (understand these two items is a core business for a 3d printer I guess, but you can use the pre-defined items and go further) 13)in the toolpath section you can save the gcode or print it. I use to save it with a name containing the build settings, layer depth, material (pla)... 14)in the USB control you can check the extruder temperature 15) time to print ! click on print and start praying. I made 5-6 attempts before having a full success (nothing more than a cube but clean and square...) 16) before printing you can check also the time to print and the evalueted PLA consumption and print volume...I don't think the latest two are ralistic anyway 3days of effort and alot of reading, writing and emailing but maybe I'm on the right path now... for sure I will try CURA and printrun in the future but netfabb seems capable of a very good job! enjoy!
  15. After the gazillionth reading of this forum I found that NF use a 100,100 home ( fixed and not moveable nor resetable i guess) . So the head WANT to go home before starting print ( actually i unchecked the flag on the Machine-Ultimaker-... button but it doesn't seem to make any difference) and after that the head wants to go back-left for preheat (?). Then it goes to center and start printing. So maybe this is a correct netfabb workflow? 1. Load parts/ stl 2. Decide profiles 3. Slice ang get gcode 4. Position the head at 0,0,0 ( front/left corner with the base Z height ready to print) 5. Start printing At this moment nf should stay at home, go to back left and preheat then go center and print. Why when i star printing it wants to go further left and further front, jumping steps and grinding my belts? Please if someone have a correct nf workflow with correct extruder head positioning before the print, let me know. Thanks
  16. today I entered the wonderful world of 3d print. I tried several prints of the 20mm cube and anfter failures and disasters I printed my 1st one. the print was all but perfect (a lot of stringing in the inside filling and bridging for the last layers failed so I had a cube without the last face... anyway, problems with stitching of the first layers but the BIGGEST one is the lack of a RESET for the home position. everytime I start a print the netfabb simulation shows the head in the front-left angle and not at the right place, in the center of the platform. no way to reset the home position in netfabb??? 150$ and a '2 lines of code function' is missing???? please let me know that it's me and the function is there, hidden somewhere... :?: :?: :?: :?: by the way, If I print with the fan on the pla solidifies so fast that layers don't stitch...
  17. I found some producers naming belts by th eteeth and others naming belts by the lenght in inches. So a 240 mxl could be a 240 teeth or a 24 inches belt. Most of the use teeth numbers so 300 teeth x 2,032 = 609.6 = 24 inches or 240 mxl = 24 inches = 300 teeth. Different producer, different name , same belt. That can't explain why on theum you have a 300 but you actually need a 297 measuring circa 6 mm short. So better print a tensioner as soon as possible...
  18. After a lot of search and an email from ultimaker support I am sure they send 300mxl belts. almost all people use some kind of belt tensioner, fom a simple clothes spring to some tensioner found on thingiverse. I think a 2000 € machine MUST work out of the box, but maybe not all people agree with me... Anyway i finished my UM tonight, the belt are slack and loose but better than yesterday after a lot if tweaking. I am going to print some belt tensioner from thingiverse asap, but in the duture i will try 297 or 295 mxl belts. Thanks 4 your reply and your link.
  19. On my brand new um the belts are B300mxl, the are quite loose and maybe a shorter belt would be eay better. Not easy to find, anyway, in ye olde europe... Very sad, a 2000$ machine running on clothes spring as belt tensioners.... :( If ainbody know where to buy mxl belts , please post the link
  20. I'm building my UM, just finished step 3(the hard one) but I found the belt very very loose  . UM dispatched me four 300 mxl belts, but in the videos (correct belt tension) and in the forum I found that on UM are installed the 240mxl. wich are the correct one??? with my loose belts i thing that the thingiverse tensioners wouldn't be of any use. I tried with a clothes spring and it works but I dont want a 2000K $ machine run on spring clothes... and where to find 240xml belts? thanks!
  21. solved. you can't acces the entire photo set from that link but if you click on any photo of the building sequence you will go on flicker and from there it is possible to navigate every photo at a good resolution. useful for the tricky steps...
  22. hi, I'm ready to build and I checked the wiki. it seems that on flicker it is possible to find the same photo of the wiki but in higher resolution. when I click the link flicker tell me this: 'Oops! You don't have permission to view this page'. here it is the link http://www.flickr.com/photos/ultimaker/ ... 745714948/ How can I access that photos? thanks!
  23. The eagle has landed... few minutes ago a brand new dhl van shipped a box from netherland straight to my door. At the moment I'm out so I will check it at about 6.30 pm I hope all is right and ready to build... I will let you know by the way I'm really impressed.
