  1. I have also received and built an Ultimaker in the ten days. The hardware was a snap. The software cost a day purely from the amount of choices available. The forum has many answers and adds to the choices. The printer is awesome.
  2. The concept of heat traveling up the hot end could be causing some of these problems. Here is a blog page about troubles in designing the hot end for an extruder. http://blog.arcol.hu/?p=1746 . Pretty interesting and not a long read.
  3. This dial indicator came from Harbor Freight for $15. Seems accurate enough for bed leveling. Attaches to you choice of one of the long screws coming down from the hot end. If I did the picture right you can take a look.
  4. Been wondering about this myself, anyone play foosball? Foosball is the table game with the little men that hit the hard ball that is the size of a ping pong ball. The little men are on metal bars that you slide back and forth while rotating the bar to hit the ball. When you play foosball seriously you want the bars to move as freely as possible and you can really feel it when the bars are slow. You never want to lubricate them with any kind of grease. You want them as clean as they can get. A tee shirt can clean them pretty well. Once they are really clean you can use some silicon to make the bars feel like they are practically floating. Grease does make it feel good for the first couple minutes after that it just feels gunked up. Sticky and slow. Getting back to Ultimaker, I kind of think the bag of groceries analogy is realistic. Still, I think grease can only attract dirt and add more binding than it reduces. Just my two cents, anyone with other ideas?
  5. Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and Ultimaker. The kit is going together fine, so far so good. The Extruder moves around fairly well as I get to the point in the instructions where you are supposed to square up the x and y axes. Having part 3B and looking at the pictures is of no help. Squaring up the axes is understandable but I don't understand how the piece of wood (3B) is supposed to help. Can't tell from the pictures and there aren't really any instructions. I do understand that it is time to set the pulleys to the rods in a permanent fashion that is square. Maybe been looking at it too long. It must be obvious because it isn't a question that gets asked. I must be looking and thinking of it the wrong way. What it the wood lining up with? what part of the wood is indicating where the pulley is to go? What does the block (holding the extruder bars) have to do with it. It is funny, I am not getting a message from the photos at all. (Extruder Section note on part 3B) How does the position of the sliding block and the frame square up where the the pulleys are supposed to be? Time for a break to help acquire a fresh look. Any help appreciated.
