  1. Hi

I have just used multiply and one at a time to print a number of small parts on an Ultimaker 2+.

Latest multiply in Cura 2.5 is an improvement.

Unfortunately the first part printed fine but there was no filament extruded on the second part for ages so no skirt and no bottom layers. Looking at the code I see a G10 at the end of the first part which I understand is retraction and then a G11 at the beginning of the 2nd part which I understand should reverse the G10.

I commented out the G10 and the parts all printed OK but with a little stringing. I am therefore sure the problem is caused by the G11 not working. Is this a Cura issue or a Firmware issue (Or even a materials setup)?

  2. Initial layer height is actually to improve adhesion (as you slightly over extrude, making it stick better). Glass plates are not that flat. I seem to recall that they are +-0.1 mm, which is why we use 0.3 for the first layer.

As for what the engine does with those settings; I don't have a good view on that.

I've had decent results with increasing brim or using raft. Another thing I tend to do is to use concentric fill for bottom layer.

Can you set concentric fill for bottom layer only?

  3. Hi

I understand the Ultimaker 2+ has the bed temperature set on the machine. Does this mean you can no longer change bed temperature during a print? I have just replaced my Original with a 2+. I have a stack of ABS that I want to use up. After many months of experimenting I found that I needed to start with a bed temperature of 110 to get a good stick onto Kapton but could reduce to 85 after the first few layers.

  4. Many thanks.

That helps but there is still no Z hop in many layers.

You can check this by opening file and searching for Z.

    Example from beginning of file:-

    G0 X64.289 Y86.981

    G10

    G1 Z1.27 ; Z 1 mm hop

    G0 F2880 X64.318 Y136.09 Z1.27

    G1 Z.27

    G11

Example from last layer in file:-

    G0 F7200 X68.805 Y86.129

    G1 F1332 X69.391 Y86.716 E11681.00058

    G0 X69.452 Y86.777

    ;TIME_ELAPSED:12541.418602

    ;LAYER:37

    G0 F7200 X69.353 Y86.875 Z3.97 ; only reference to Z in the layer

    ;TYPE:WALL-INNER

    G1 F2400 X69.357 Y87.188 E11681.01154

I suspect this is because retract controls Z hop and presumably there is no retract.

Can you force retract to prove this?

I am not sure because I cannot see retract distance.

(This setting has been hidden by the values of gcode flavour, Enable Retraction. Change the values of those settings to make this setting visible) I do not understand what that means.

If I could set retract to say 1mm I could easily see that in the file.

    What controls retract?

  5. Hi

I have just updated to Cura 2.3

I always use Z hop as many of my parts have a flat top surface and Z hop avoids any marking of the surface.

I have just run the first job and got a surface mark. I examined the file and the Z hop is active on the skirt only. Any idea why this is? I see that Z hop works with Retraction which is enabled. What causes retraction? Have I missed a setting in the profile?

  6. Hi

It remember file location all the time Cura is open. But it does not remember location on my PC when you first start Cura. It reverts to Users directory (C:\Users\Ian). Where is current location information stored?

Could it be because my object files are on a network drive?

    bers

Cura 2.3 remembers folders now, so that should take care of your first issue.

I not sure if it does anything different for your send one.

  7. Hi

Is there anyway to force Cura 2.1.3 to open object files in a specific folder? I can't find where to set it.

Also a small request. I have a number of removable drives. You select the drive you want to save to using the drop down which is fine. But you have nothing to show selected drive until you actually do a save. It would be helpful if current selected removable drive was shown somewhere .

  8. Hi

Problem must have related to model file in some way. Unfortunately it was a part under development and the original stl was overwritten. I did the same test this morning with the latest STL ready to send files to Stefan and it worked perfectly.

    I have closed the issue.

    Thanks for all the help.

    Regards

    Ian
