  1. I'm using the 2.83 inch (Scotch brand) painter's tape and that's what got peeled upwards. I wipe down the surface of the tape with rubbing alcohol and allow a few mins to evaporate. I have no problems with print sticking...almost too much! I have to gently lift under the tape most times to get the part free. Many times, I have to soak the bottom of the part in rubbing alcohol for 15 mins and gently razor off the tape. Its getting to be a pain! But I'm certain that big part was sticking very, very well! The glass looks interesting
  2. Is there a PDF/DXF of the build plate so a glass maker could make one out of glass? I'd love to print on a heated surface but we're waiting on Ultimaker for that option Any brand wood glue better than the other? What's the ratio/recipe for such a thing
  3. I thought I would revive this thread a little... What's the word on updates/upgrades for the original Ultimaker? With the release of the UM2 and its native support for a heated bed and other features, I am in hopes new stuff is pending for the Original? I would really really like to retire the Painter's Tape and rubbing alcohol !
  4. I can't upload a ZIP file or STL file to the gallery. Hmm.
  5. I was printing at a speed of 40 and the temp set to 230 With the printer in the basment and the temp down there about 50, I have had good results with 230 so far. Let me upload the part, I don't have the mixmesh version but i am really curious how others would approach printing it.
  6. Anyone else run into this? I was making a piece that was about 7 inches long, 100% fill (geared rack so it needs the strength) As it got about 70% done you could see the part was pulling up on the tape and while not ripping it, it was lifted a half inch, ruining the task
  7. I guess I am missing the big lesson, slower print, lower temp?
  8. Maybe this was covered already but... If you are printing in PLA, which softens in water, wouldn't introducing water to remove the PVA be harmful to the print? Or are you referring to printing in ABS, etc instead?
  9. I haven't upgraded Marlin since the printer arrived in September.
  10. Oh....its running now....false alarm
  11. I am used to seeing the fan always running on my Ultimaker. Its doing a job now, no fan runninng.....normal? Its still doing the brim...made sure in Cura cooling fan is enabled.
  12. Appropriate plastic parts, right? I'd like to see how that model looks in ABS. I should have printed it full size but didn't feel like running a 4-5 hour print
  13. I wanted to print something fun and see what the Ultimaker Original could muster... Found this on Thingiverse and reduced the size (its a bit over 2 inches l x w and about that tall) The creator has several models available, this is one with Meshmixer supports. I hadn't removed all of them when I took the pic I really wonder how this would look using that wood-pla I printed at 0.1 layers, 230C and set the print speed to 30.
  14. I'm pleased to see this wasn't a stupid question I know 2gb cards are hard to find with larger sizes being the norm.
  15. Is 2gb the maximum the controller will see?
  16. I am looking to buy another SD card for my Ultimaker printer (with Ulticontroller) and I can't seem to figure out what the size limits are, if the SD card needs to be formatted any certain way, etc Thanks
  17. Yeah I saw that Kickstarter mentioned on CNET I researched, agonized, debated about getting an Ultimaker for my R2-D2 project. I wanted to be able to prototype R2's varies gadgets and also print various brackets/mounting pieces in plastic for the many electronics my R2 has inside. I bought an Ultimaker kit last September and just missed the UM2 release by 10 days (boy was I pissed...) To save money, I went with the kit but bought the Ulticontroller and the second extruder upgrade (yet to install). Short answers for you... * The build, in hindsight, wasn't too bad. I learned a lot about how these things work * This forum provides a wealth of support and you'll get answers quickly. * If you are hoping this will be plug and play, we are years away from that. You will have to be prepared to dedicate some hours to learning, calibrating, tweaking and so on. Once you get the print built, you have the bed leveling, which can be challenging. Then you learn the best temps to print at, how to use Cura and what the Advanced Settings will do. In short, you won't really be able to unbox your assembled printer and instantly print out your finest works. We aren't at that level yet. But, if you wish to learn this technology along with us, the results can be very rewarding * If you want to draw and see your creation in 3D minus the headaches of learning the printer, you might want to consider using a service like Shapeways. I'm still very much a newbie but I've learned a lot from reading in here and my conversations with GR5 and others.
  18. Make sure you put in a support ticket in for that, not just an email or this post. This way Sanders and the staff can address those issues and follow up with you.
  19. Yeah Barnacules is interesting indeed and certainly has a lot of toys (and resources!) to show off. I'm starting to have some serious UM2 envy.
  20. I've worked with drawings and had parts made in the past. If you wish to share the drawings with me, I can certainly get some quotes. Or, if you prefer to manage this project on your own, I would suggest using a service like MFG.com. I've used them many times in getting machine quotes for many (aluminum) parts I have had custom made in the past. You can specify a country/region, etc. I was impressed with the 70 or so quotes I got on my most recent project. Hope that helps!
  21. You know, I thought I had retraction on but when I look at Cura...I see the check box is blank. Ahhhh! I bet it will print so much better next time. Meshmixer is quite the interesting program, as well.
  22. I set the speed to 30, temp to 230C and layer to 0.1 Here's how it looks printed horizontally this time
  23. Love the Threepio prints! Are those files available to be shared? I'd like to print that for Hasbro R2 to have a friend
  24. I have moved my Ultimaker (Classic) down to my basement so that it will not be bothered by my cats or the dust generated by the litter box nearby. Its pretty chilly down there. I would guess 50F I printed a piece for my R2-D2, the grasper claw and I had the layers set to 0.1 and was moving along at a speed of 40, and a temperature of 215C GR5 suggested reading the blog post about MeshMixer so I tried that out. That's where the supports came from. Anyways, overall the print looks OK but I am curious if I should go hotter on the temperature and slower on the print speed to get a better result I know I need some better supports, I could see the part moving a bit as it got taller (slower will help too) Would love to hear some feedback on the print quality and anything I should do to improve all printing in a room that is cooler than usual room temperature. Thanks!
