iGo3D shipped right after I ordered. Great service!
CREA3D never got back to me. After a month without hearing anything, I emailed them and was offered a refund :-(

I got my first Ultimaker in April 2012. Ever since that I've promoted the brand for it's brilliant machines and excellent service. I've given advice to libraries, schools and science museums across all of Norway to by an Ultimaker since it's "easier to maintain" and requires less maintenance than other machines. I don't know how many machines Ultimaker have sold based on this, but my guess would be at least 50 or maybe many more? I will never know, but the early adopters asked me for advice since I was visible in media promoting 3D printing.
The shipping on spare parts were always expensive, but hey - you could get any part you needed within two days. That's worth the cost of DHL to many, but that no longer possible. Our 3 Ultimaker Original's needed an upgrade. I needed two heated beds, an Ulticontroller and some other spares, but since one can no longer purchase these things from Ultimaker, I had to purchase it from other vendors around Europe that claimed to have them in stock.
I ventilated my frustration here on the forums, but users like @meduza, @neotko, @Dim3nsioneer, @ultiarjan, @DidierKlein and several others chipped in. They all said that I should just order from those that listed the parts and get them to ship it.
Now here's the problem: I did this the same day and it's now a month since that post. The heated beds arrived, but all the rest ordered from Crea3D in Italy is still missing. Since I heard nothing from them, I sent them an email asking what was wrong and this is the answer I got:
THIS is exactly why I think it's a bad idea to not sell the spare parts directly... Crea3D sold me something they didn't have and then they just shut up and thought I wouldn't notice? Come on...
Someone from Ultimaker - please tell me that you have a solution to this:
1. Resellers must never list items that cannot be sold
2. I really need an Ulticontroller since the SD card slot on the one we have is broken.
The SD slot used on the Ulticontroller is rather difficult to get hold of from sources like Farnell and Mouser, we cannot repair it and we need a replacement. (it's inverse compared to the normal SD slots?)

@terryparadise You don't understand that spending an hour just to locate who has a spare part is an inconvenience? You don't understand that I find it clumsy to have to shop Italian websites when I don't speak Italian? (yup - one of the shops were in Italy, not in the UK as I thought)
Earlier you could just go to the source (Ultimaker) and they would ship it right away. Now I have to figure out why CREA and iGo3D still have not shipped any of the parts I'm paying DHL shipping for. To me that's a MAJOR downgrade compared to actually having the parts today...
confusing Jenschr. In the same post you whine about trying to get spare parts, then say I found them at 2 different web sites in the UK and get them delivered in 2 days via DHL. Perhaps you should "should consider other options". I'm not in any way affilated with ultimaker but there product,customer service, forums AND availbility are simply outstanding. This undoubtly is an argument that has no winner/loser. But come on man really is 2 day delivery the game changer?????

Unfortunately you are right about many re sellers not having all parts on there website. but at makerpoint you can put most directly in your basket

Sure, but they do not have any spare parts in stock. They have to order them just like I do, so they're just making things take more time...

@neotko I don't need screws and bolts. I needed:
2 x Heated bed kits
1 x Ulticontroller
2 x Thermocouples
1 x Bowden kit
1 x Fan kit
All together, this is spare parts for 600 EUR and these all used to be in the Ultimaker web store.

Thanks for replying @meduza, but it's still incredibly cumbersome. I know exactly what I need. All I want is to add the parts to a shopping cart and pay to get it delivered.
I don't want to wait another day so I can call during business hours. I don't want to explain what parts I need to someone with limited experience. Based on former experience they're not capable of ordering the correct parts for Ultimaker Original since they've only ever sold UM2's.
I don't enjoy to be forced to order through someone that don't have the parts, so they have to order them and then when they receive the package they have to contact me and then I have to wait another week to get the stupid parts that I could have received a week earlier if I could order from Ultimaker?
This really isn't an improvement.... Someone should notice and fix it (but I guess Ultimaker have become so big that such things won't happen?)
In the mean time, I shopped around and eventually found two different british webshops that have the parts I need. They'll deliver what I need in two days using DHL. It's just much worse for the environment, me and anyone not living in a country big enough to have a large UM reseller with spare parts in stock. Ultimately also Ultimaker. From a business standpoint, cumbersome solutions makes you consider other options the next time you need printers. They still make the best printers though, but I just do not think this is better in any way.

Our hackerspace has 3 Ultimakers and tonight I was going to order a bunch of spare parts. That is however no longer possible? Is it true that I now have to "shop around" across the whole world, to find the spare parts I need? It's just incredibly much more convenient to buy this directly from Ultimaker.
Why on earth am I forced to buy from resellers that don't have the parts I need?

So custom firmware upgrade is definitely buried now?
For this version, yes. Permanently? No. To be honest, I kinda forgot about that feature. If people really want / need this feature, I'll make sure it gets added back into 2.x
While I love all those experimental features you can unlock, it actually looks like quite a bit has been forgotten in this version. For one, I can no longer add my custom RepRap printer? Whatever happened to that? I guess I'll just tell people to download the old version until that is added back in then?

The coming weekend we're kicking off our tenth 3D Printer Weekend at the Bitraf Hackerspace, downtown Oslo. If you're nearby, please drop by!
In addition to the two Ultimaker Original's that are the hackerspace's main workhorses, there will be a good mix of other printers such as the BAM (BigAluMendel), Mendel90, TwoUp, Cube, Makerbot's, MakergearM2, Rostock plus, printrbot, Thing & more. This will also be the first weekend that our full-size CNC is operational, so with the X700 laser cutter it's a perfect opportunity to mod and fix your printer. Among the plans are a cutting a permanent "top" to the in-house Ultimaker Original's so they both can hold the heat in when printing ABS. Bring your machine(s) and come join us!

Just thought I'd tell that this weekend we're organizing our eight 3DP meetup at the Oslo Hackerspace Bitraf.no. If you're in the Oslo area, feel free to drop by! Bitraf has two Ultimaker Originals that are upgraded, but we'd love to see an Ultimaker 2 at the meetup as well!

I'm with UltiArjan. If UM looks back through both this forum and the Google group, you'll find that the extreme shipping prices for tiny spare parts are a recurring problem. Due to these, many UM's will stand un-repaired for a long time. It's simply too expensive unless a company is paying the bill.
Say that I want to buy a new Nozzle. This will cost me €32 from Ultimaking Ltd. This in turn drives people to by fake Chinese nozzles on ebay at €3-4 a piece. If you (seemingly) can get 10 nozzles for the price of one (or pay just a tenth) then many will go for that.
Ultimaker should look to Adafruit for how to do shipping! They have a cheaper option, complete with insurance. Shipments arrive safely in nice, small boxes that fit what is being shipped. Orders are out the door the same day they arrive. Adafruit are not the cheapest, but they're also not many times the cost of others. They excel at shipping and quality and that's enough for me to use them over others.

Yeah. You can really tell that these guys have experience and what they say about MB confirms what everybody else says on Reddit - the last gen is a catastrophe. I bet you have seen it, but the Netflix documentary "Print the Legend" really tells why this has gone wrong. Nobody like to have a huge countdown to their doom mounted in the office. It also tells why Bre Pettis is no longer the CEO...

I did my own heated bed two years ago, so I've been biased towards that approach. I have to say that after getting the official bed upgrade at my local hackerspace (http://bitraf.no), I totally think it's worth the price. You replace the whole platform, it's incredibly rigid, Z-homing is super-fast with the new Z-screw & the process isn't too hard. The guy who did the upgrade did not have much hardware experience at all and he did fine. He forgot a couple screws, but we added them later.

Old topic, but I thought I'd chime in regarding Megatronics 2. I've just built a new printer using that board and I really like it. I had a really cheap chinese version of the PCB that died on me. I dunno what happened, but the FTDI-chip would suddenly overheat and prevent uploading firmware. After that I got "the real thing" from reprapworld I haven't had any problems.
I also had some issues with the A4988 drivers from the same Chinese vendor, so I too switched to using DRV8825 drivers. The new printer sure is a lot more silent than my Ultimaker! It's so much less noise that I've thought about getting some of these for the Ultimaker as well. It's more or less the difference of printing over night and not, so they're def recommended if you want a more silent Ultimaker.

+1 for Faberdashery & Colorfabb. I like that Colorfabb sells by the spool and I also love that Faberdashery sells by the meter. I wish Faberdashery could supply spools as an alternative though. It's a must for larger prints as spooling it yourself has too many possible flaws.

This one is July 2013. I have some older also. Did it change recently?
I have 4 rolls of translucent PLA that is about a year old and the only way I can get this to print properly is at very high temperatures (235C). Glad I have that extra fan above the extruder...

So - turns out the fan was the problem!
Have a look at how transparent box A is! You can see the grid pattern easily :smile:
I used the Tweak At Z plugin to turn on the fan only after printing the bottom. Box B is the old one and Box C is the reason I used the fan. Without it I'd get these small blobs along the wall. Now I get pretty much perfect results every time. Thanks for helping me resolve this!
I added this to the stuff I wrote earlier on XT, but the "magical" settings to get XT transparent are something like this: 35 mm/s, 230-235C, 105% flow & no fan for the transparent area. If you have a heated bed - crank that up as well as it'll help the layers blend by keeping the XT as hot as possible. Then you can crank up speed to 50 mm/s and turn on some careful fan cooling.

Made an important discovery! This is the material itself causing the issue! Have a look at this image:
It's only the Colorfabb XT material that is showing this artifact? Stumped...

Yeah. I picked up a SD slot from Farnell along with some other stuff. Easy to solder on/off with a hot air gun. Crea ended up cancelling and refunding my order. I contacted my local distributor and they have promised to get one for me (but I'm still waiting for it).
