  1. Very good print. It also seems that you have no problems with stringing which is great.
  3. I'll get samples of LayBrick and BendLay filament in a few days and will drive some test prints and also reporting the results then of course.
  4. Hallo und willkommen bei den Ultimakers! 1. Jep, ist normal. 2.
  5. I've got an aluminum bed too with a permanent print plate (some kind of carbon fiber sheet) on top of it. Maybe because of that I need higher temperatures but I also experimented with kapton and never got below 90 °C for ABS. Sometimes I go even up to 115 °C for improved bonding and also there I've never experienced soft or distorted layers (glass transition temp of ABS is around 110 °C). The differences in our temps might also come from varying thicknesses of the alu plates or from different thermistors we use. Well, as always, the temps (hotend, heatbed, heatchamber, etc.) differ from machine to machine and every printer as well as every material needs different temps or combinations of them. Consumer 3d printing is nothing for people who don't like the concept of trail and error.
  6. ABS needs a bed temp of at least 100 °C. Some people also use "ABS glue" (a slight amount of ABS filament dissolved in acetone) coating the kapton-covered heatbed with. And don't forget to use brims. Cura and Slic3r can do that. KISSlicer not, so do it manually in your 3d modeling tool.
  7. I bet that we DON'T see an Ultimaker 2 in the near future. There is truly no need as Ultimaking has other priorities as I already pointed out. Ultimaking prefers to develop toys like Doodle 3D and things like that.
  8. Obviously the z-level. Strange problem. It doesn't look like under-extrusion but to verify I'd need to see the objects from top. For the moment I'd assume it's bad mesh geometry mixing the slicer up or a problem with the z-carriage, maybe a rod with a defect exactly at that point or something like that.
  9. 240 °C might be far too low depending on the ABS filament you are using. For example black filament normally needs much higher temperatures. Nature colored (not white) filament usually needs lower temperatures. But it truly depends on the material. I NEVER print ABS below 250 °C because I want really tough layer bonding. The stock extruder is NOT designed for those high temps, at least for ABS where temperature is really critical compared to PLA. Please share some pictures of your modified Ultimaker. I'm curious.
  11. There is no "ideal material". Each material has its pros and cons and one downside of PC is that it warps a bit. That's just how it is.
  12. Then you should give Polycarbonate (PC) a try. Its glass transition temp is about 150 °C. Much higher than PLA und PET, and even higher than ABS.
  14. In general I'd fully acknowledge to snowy, but I think that most of the "professional" Ultimaker users who upgrade their machines in all aspects are not the audience Ultimaking is targeting to in reality. Ultimaking isn't interested in bringing out a machine that can handle ABS prints or that has the absolute toughest tolerances in the mechanical parts and so on. They want that persons who are curious about that cool new subject "3d printing" just can grab an appropriate machine that can 3d print objects without much effort, without much tinkering, and without having that much knowledge about the inner and outer aspects that make the device to work. They take the printer and just print some "funny" objects, then sharing that fun with their friends, maybe also using it as an educational material. For that case the Ultimaker is fine. It's not designed for the rest of us who truly want the best print quality that meets the highest artistic or mechanical standards possible to date on consumer FDM printers. Maybe parts you can even *sell*. For those guys the Ultimaker might be the wrong machine to start with. For me it was not. I knew that there were many parts of the concept that had to be revised. I like tinkering so no problem here for me and the Ultimaker gave me a good start. The only problem I see is the way Ultimaking is representing their machine. They represent it as one of the best consumer 3d printers on the market that is capable of doing everything in FDM aspects. They seem to want to address the professional consumers. But it is not. In my opinion the Ultimaker clearly is in its first instance for people who just want to enjoy and have fun with 3d printing, but not for the guys who have serious demands when it comes to consumer 3d printing. So I wouldn't expect them to be too much interested in enhancing the machine in too much ways. Maybe we see a heated bed someday. But the Ultimaker won't get that top notch 3d printer ever some are expecting.
  15. No, it's not SLA'd (but would have been nice, though ). It's just printed in ABS on my Ultimaker and then finished with some acetone. It's strong enough to withstand the heat of the heatsink and the heated bed that is at 110 °C all the time during a print.
Sorry.
  19. Because of the very long leadtime we have at the moment when ordering one of the E3D hotends I decided to go for a custom-made hotend that is truly inspired by the original (more or less the same size, materials, and so on). I thought a bit of pretesting could be a good idea as I'll already ordered two of the original E3D hotends for even tougher tolerances and the extra nozzles. Also to support that great example of engineering buying the original is a must I think. But for the meantime I'll use my "copy". The hotend is working like a charm and in excactly the way described by am001. Highest temperatures without any plugging, great bonding, and insane speeds even with ABS. I love that thing! Some photos of my custom E3D hotend can be found on my made one page on Thingiverse. The hotend consists of a custom-made aluminum heatsink and a custom stainless steel thermal barrier. The heater block was reused from my stock UM, also the nozzle, but drilled from 0.4 mm to 0.6 mm to have a 66 % larger throughput. Many many thanks to am001 who designed that awesome E3D hotend holder!!
  20. I don't think that Ultimaking ever release an official heated bed upgrade. Maybe we see a heated bed in an "Ultimaker 2".
  21. No experiences with PET so far, but I'm always looking for printing materials that give very clear parts. PLA and PC are good but not perfect, so PET may be a better and even cheaper alternative.
