  1. Yup same here. Using 10.8.4, Macbook air. I get exactly the same error message Bob
  2. Gr5, Thanks, I hoped so. thanks for you input. Bob
  3. Hi Daid, Just a quick question. I am using Cura 13.05.2 on the Mac. I am 57% through a print. It is currently 8.5mm in Z but will be 36mm (in Z) when it finishes. I thought ( i guess I am wrong) that the % done was based on layers? What is the % done on the Ulticontroller based on? Thanks Bob
  4. Thanks Callum, It's pretty much what I thought, I have been running the UM for 5-7 hours with no problem and I assumed they weren't getting any hotter than normal. It's just I wasn't sure what normal was! I have a couple of the Akasa chipset fans and now to find a PSU. Bob
  5. I added my set of pulleys to my machine at the weekend and there is absolutely no run out (visibly anyhow). It is hard to quantify improvements as I added them at the same time as switching over to direct drive. Overall with both upgrades my prints are better and well worth the money.
  6. So Fellow hackers, I did the modifications over the weekend and the prints are looking great! However, my stepper motors are getting really hot, to hot to hold onto. Is this normal? Up til now I have never really paid much attention to any heat the motors give off as they were tucked away in the case, so I don't know what is normal! I took great care aligning the brackets and Motors and visually when in operation nothing seems to be off centre or out of line! I have ordered some heat sink fans (as per Callum's guidance) my next question is how are you folks powering them? Many thanks for the awesome help I am sure you will give. Bob
  7. Although I am still somewhat new to this printing game. It sounds like you need to adjust the 'Z' limit switch. go to the bottom of the page here: http://wiki.ultimaker.com/Ultimaker_rev.4_assembly:_Mounting_the_electronics and follow the instructions and see if that helps. It might also be worth adjusting the leveling scews on the Perpex bed to a mid point before doing the above, that way you have adjustment to raise or lower the plate when levevling. Bob
  8. You beauties! Thanks to all you guys for the advice, I now know exactly what I am doing this weekend. Thanks again Bob
  9. Tharg from John Carter (100mm tall) File was downloaded form Turbosquid. (credit to the creator http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/698884) Printed at 0.1mm resolution Then primed, filled and sprayed a couple of times Photo taken on my crappy Iphone.
  10. Hey guys, really want to do this modification, I am printing the brackets as I type, and have the couplers, 8mm rod and some awesome new pulleys. The mechanical part of this mod is easy, but i want to put the Y axis motor on the back of the machine. I was wondering which wires i would have to swap to reverse the voltage in the motor, and where to swap it? by which i mean do I remove the wires from the plug or cut the wires and re solder or use bullet connectors etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated and pictures would be even better! Thanks Bob
  11. That makes sense, the model that is causing me trouble is somewhat complicated.
  12. Daid, Another issue I am having is getting the new Cura to slice (using MAC OS) If i load a model and then adjust the setting to the suit the print. sometimes it will just hang. Is there any way we can force it to slice the object. Also will the view of the Ultimaker Z plate (as per 13.04) be returning? It was really useful to quickly see the orientation of the objects on the bed. Please keep up the good work Bob Damn me, i just realised I hadn't run the set up wizard, pretty view of the Z bed found!!!
  13. this is good one too: http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2013/05/why-3d-printing-is-just-like-daft-punks-latest-album/
  14. Daid, thanks, you are doing an awesome job here. please keep up the good work Bob
  15. hi there I am having some troubles slicing this : http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:10219 in 13.05. it slices well in 13.04 but It totally ignores halve the model in the new software. see here: any advice? Bob
  16. Loving the new Cura, it is sooooooo fast. One question, will you be putting the feature that enables you to sink your print into the bed in this version? Sorry can't remember the features name! I find it very useful on some prints. Thanks Bob Edit: sorry i was being blind just noticed the option. sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. then. try and run Cura on it again and see what happens.
  18. the diameter of the filament is pretty important. the default setting will probably not be correct for the filament you are using. Have you got a pair of Vernier calipers to measure it with?
  19. Printing temp? have you checked the diameter of your filament? I wouldn't have thought you need to set the top/bottom so high. 0.8mm is usually fine. Bob
  20. Basically it is under 'Quality' try slicing it at 0.1mm (layer height) if you are not already. It might be helpful if you post up what settings you are using.
  21. Having had a quick look at the image you have posted earlier in the thread, it looks like the top of the tyre isn't lat/horizontal, could it be that if you tried slicing it at a slightly finer resolution Cura might be able to detect the slope?
  22. This is just a wild stab in the dark here as I am pretty much a Noob at this printing lark. Check that you have ticked the 'Solid infill top' box in the expert settings!
  23. I had a similar thing happen the other day, I was trying to print something right on the 205mm size limits and the Ultimaker was hitting the X limit switch and did exactly what you are seeing. Try printing without a skirt or rotating the print around 45 degrees so the longest dimensions point to the corners of the print bed. I hope that makes sense Bob
  24. Hi, I am a total Noob here and at the moment I am building my Ultimaker. Having just assembled the axis and given it a good look over, several of my pulleys are visibly wonky! Please put me down for a set of 8. Cheers Bob
