  1. No question about it, youmagine has a long way to go. But it won't get better if everyone continues to use thingiverse...
  2. You definitely do not need that. You just need to preload the printhead assembly so that the teeth of the bowden retaining nubbin bite into the bowden more effectively. Also, make another thing like the blue clip, but slightly thicker, out of any material, just to get yourself back to printing.
  3. I'm just going to put this here... http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:342159
  4. Also, following people is how? You guys should fast-track hiring that Ruby developer so that we can start getting a more full-featured platform. Partner with 3D Hubs and get yourself a cut of the commission, so you can have a path to profitability that isn't ads, and actually fund the development of a competent Thingiverse killer...
  5. Yes. Moving a bunch of designs to Youmagine now and finding the current list of categories inadequate. Lighting Tools Photography Sports
  6. The ability to add links as text in design descriptions without busting out HTML would be a big usability improvement.
  7. Another bug: When tagging designs, it is frequently impossible to add a new tag when (alphanumerically) similar tags are being suggested. Example: I can't tag a design with "Photography" because the window auto-changes it to "Astrophotography". Edit: It seems to have corrected itself somewhat, and if I add Astrophotography to my object as a tag first, it then no longer suggests that tag while I can add others. Still, buggy...
  8. There desperately need to be more categories for uploaded designs. The current (very short) list does a poor job of capturing all types of things people might upload to the site.
  9. Pretty unbelievable. Pulling all of my content off of Thingiverse now, moving to Youmagine. Hopefully Youmagine will get the attention it needs in order to be a truly competing service...
  10. There is something broken with the Edit Profile page - first, you have to enter your password confirmation every time or it rejects your changes (bad feature... unintentional?) and then second, after you try to update your page once without re-entering your password confirmation, the next time you try, youmagine automatically logs you out and, once again, your profile edits aren't changed. Buggy.
  11. Yes, moving all of my designs off of Thingiverse currently... I'm just going to put this here... http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:342159
  12. Seems extremely promising. Any word on pricing or availability?
  13. Fans are on from the first layer of the print. Using a crossflow fan so there is certainly a large amount of airflow. Will try with lower bed temps I guess. May also just get a PEI platform as well... been wanting one for a while.
  14. Go in to your machine settings in Cura and decrease your gantry size settings to all 0's. This will fix your problem. You will now be able to push objects close together and have the skirt group around them.
  15. When printing small-to-medium sized prints, I've noticed that the bottom few mm always look a little messy when using a heated bed. I was printing parts of Robert's extruder yesterday and had a pretty clear example of this... identical settings but one with the heated bed (left), one without (right): (Roughly 205 nozzle 80 bed temp, though my bed is significantly lower in actual temp than reported temp. Ignore the upper part of the print for the left print, I was futzing around with the filament which caused some uneven extrusion.) Any tricks to avoid this?
  16. Yeah, the latest 14.05 RC2 is still giving me bumpy surfaces on medium resolution models. Went back to 14.01 again.
  17. I don't understand where your problem is coming from - how does skirt influence the number of objects you can fit on the bed? Can't you just change your skirt offset, or change your machine preferences for printhead size to allow tight packing of objects with whatever group skirt you want?
  18. Yeah, this is definitely something that should be fixed, along with the lack of retraction during long comb moves. Both cause prints to fail that would otherwise succeed.
  19. I've used Octoprint and Botqueue extensively (logged almost 1400 hours on BQ last summer, about half that on Octoprint last fall) and I am extremely excited for PrintToPeer. Octoprint and Botqueue both suck. Sorry to those devs who might read this (sure Zach knows and has moved on), but they are both stagnant, buggy projects that do a disservice to the incredible potential that exists with cloud-connected 3D printers. The setup processes are tedious and easy to do incorrectly; the UI's are slow and prone to failure. They are challenging or borderline impossible to set up with multiple printers, and they do a poor job of helping you diagnose problems when things go wrong. Honestly, I hope this doesn't become another orphaned open-source project. I'm supportive of open-source projects, but so far, the open-source community hasn't done a great job serving this amazing opportunity for wireless printing. Hopefully a funded competitor can. I would gladly pay something like $5/month/printer for truly excellent wireless printing, queuing, monitoring, etc...
  20. Has anyone used Robert's design on a UM1, and if so, what did you use for the knurled filament driver?
  21. Yeah, I have two of my machines setup with an overhead bowden. My primary motivation was to make the machine easier to feed from a wall-mounted spool, but there seems to be a minor improvement with retractions and filament problems due to the shorter bowden. It is an extremely easy mod to make, though it certainly makes the entire machine much less compact:
  22. Yeah, I'd be down. In NYC so there's a chance it could make sense. Send me a PM when you're thinking about placing the order.
  23. reducemesh is what you're looking for in Rhino, though I have heard from others that Meshlab (free software) is a better option for finely controlled mesh reduction.
  24. Long story short ( the step file does take a while to re-import in solidworks, but it definitely builds fine) the converted files look identical to the knife handle in the photos of my first link.
