  2. Hello, I gave a talk at the Blender Conference about my use of Blender for 3D printing (and CNC milling too). All the examples shown are of course made with Ultimaker. It's in english (with an horrible frenc accent  )
  3. Here are some pictures of la Folle Journée de l'Architecture (Crazy Day of Architecture) Crazy Day indeed ! 53 different prints in one day ! Every children made its own house in Blender, and then got it printed. I'm doing the makin-of, you can get more info (in french) and more pictures: http://chantierlibre.org/2013/10/12/folle-journee-de-larchitecture-2013-53-maquettes-differentes-en-une-journee/
  5. Hello, this is a simple problem: I model a ring (or just a tore), either in wings or Blender. It slices correctly in 13.04, but in 13.06.5, I get a pizza instead of a ring. Did I miss something ? Or is it a bug
  6. Hello, Our fablab http://chantierlibre.org/ is holding two workshops this month: One this saturday inhttp://chantierlibre.org/2013/09/26/atelier-impression-3d-pendant-le-4eme-rallye-des-savoir-faire/ (42), with only our own Ultimaker, it's 2 workshop (3 hours each) to discover 3D printing. We will use her wings 3D as it is easier to begin with than Blender. Thehttp://chantierlibre.org/2013/09/26/labo-3d-de-la-folle-journee-de-larchitecture-a-nancy/ is much bigger, held during the FJA (Crazy Days of Architecture) the 12th of october 2013 in Architecture School of Nancy. It will feature 4 (or 5) ultimakers !! to let everybody mix, modify and remix iteratively some architectural designs to have as many printed designs as we can. The software used will be of course Blender. I will let you know more about it.
  8. I have the same error again on my other computer, always at the same height approximately: no way to use 13.06.5 on linux for me
  9. I agree with you that this part is not well documented. I figured it out while searching for cogged nozzle. So here is how I proceed (hoping there is nothing wrong): [*]I launch a print and during the heating time I pause it: the only thing not paused is the heater, so it will reach the 220°C or whatever temperature you choose.[*]Once it reached it I pull out the filament (and then cut the partly melted down end ) and I introduce the new one, first with the extruder plastic part that pressure the filament on the metal rod removed then at the end I put it back and use the extruder gear. [*]If you want to be sure to have no old filament left, with the gear you can push out the filament until you see the new color (but in some case it's nice to have one face of the object with an other color) [*]Then you can resume the print (or cancel it)
  10. Thanks for your quick answer. I tried a third time... let's see what happen. Could not make my desktop fresh linuxmint15 install connect to the printer (added user to dialin, I don't remember if there is something else to do...) Please, please, why is it so annotying to make it work under linux ? I'm just so happy when it works that I'm affraid to update, as every time I have to find on the net new tricks to make it work. Update: 3rd try and failure again... Going back to cura 13.04 :-(
  11. Hello all, Coming back from hollidays, I wanted to see if I have better luck with the new version of Cura. I found somewher this trick to make ite slice: in a terminal, first type: export LC_TIME=en_US.utf8 then type cura to launch it. Now it slices, it is very fast indeed, but on my laptop it's not instant, and I like complex geometry... so I would definitely prefer a Slice button :-) But then, it's the second time that the printer stop after several hours, thing that never happend with 13.04. I got this message: I used to trust very much Cura and leave it to print for nights with no fear. Should I go back to 13.04, or anybody understands this error an can tell me what I should do.
  12. I posted on my website a post containing at the end the .blend files and the two stl files: They are under creative commons CC-BY-SA, feel free to use them.
  13. Very nice indeed. Could you tell us how long it took for the finishing.
  14. It says that the video is private, so I could'nt watch it :-P
  15. Thanks for the advice, I will try a new print one of these days. Here is a timelapse of the whole process, from designing in Blender to printing. Hope you enjoy it and that it's not too long: https://vimeo.com/69367011
  16. I like the idea very much, but just to make the things clear: The credit is the bare minimum anytime you use somebody's creation :-P In france it's even compulsory. The fact that it's in a big museum may be enough reward for some of us to send something though.
  17. When you say "Donate", you mean sending you the file and you print it or send you the printed object ?
  18. Everything is possible with Blender and an Ultimaker :-P I just have to change the model in Blender. But I would like to try the low poly pilars without retractation problems as I like them in the 3D model.
  19. The low-poly version of my softbody cathedral, printed at 0.1mm height, 40mm/s, 14hours. A lot of retractation blobs on the pillars, I'll try to improve that later:
  20. Thanks Ian. Here is a low poly version: I have a lot of "wires" and blob as you can see on the next photo, but only on the pilars. I tried to lower the speed to less than 40, and lower the temp to 210°C, but it did'nt improve. Any thoughts ?
  21. Here is my last model: I used the softbodies of blender to generate the shape, with a solidify modifier to give it thickness. It's inspired by Gaudi and the way he designed the Sagrada Familia in Barcelone:
  22. Here is my latest print: The shape is calculated by softbody simulation in Blender, the printed almost flawlessly (I unplugged the USB cable after 10h of printing... but could get it back thanks to the help here). More pictures there
Merci merci
  24. It depends of the models: The first earth houses had no wall thickness, so I had to use a solidify modifier, which is very quick. The other ones where printed just like that, but the strange subsurf house lost its feet on the way because they where too tiny, so I will have to change it. And the bottom of it, wit all the supports was very ugly before sanding.
  25. I uploaded the stl files on the lab site: Subsurf House Simple house test Earth House n°2 Earth House n°1 New ones are coming...
