  1. Hi I seem to recall someone posted some nice images which showed how temp and I think speed, influenced the print finish. Unfortunately I can't recall what the post was titled and can't find it in the search. Just recall an image which showed blocks and had a note of temp on each block. Can anyone point me in the right direction please. I am trying to work out what I need to do with the print im currently working on to reduce the amount of "flashing" between the support sections. Thought the post might help me to figure out what I need to do. It's not a major issue to be honest as quite easy to clean up and I guess it does give a little more support, but would be great to reduce it a little. The image is taken when I had the CURA settings set to Fast print mode. So totally default settings. Thanks
  2. Hi, I had a similar problem, although I also noticed the tube kept coming away from the print head and I had a lot more movement than in your video. Might be worth taking off the blue clip and then while putting some pressure on the grey plug, push the tube down as much as it will go. It took me a few goes but eventually I found there was less movement. Then put the red clip back. See how that works.
  3. Im currently using an X-Box Kinect with the Skanect which is pretty good for large scans although think that's down to the Kinect. I am also keeping a look out on the Matterform Scanner http://www.matterform.net/ At the moment the Primesense Carmine v1.09 doesn't seem to be available :(
  4. OK many thanks, that did the trick. No options to scale to fit that I could see but reduced the size to 198mm and it seems to have solved it.
  5. I have just tried to print the following flat on the printer bed, when I load into Cura it shows it on end, I then rotate this so its flat as in the image but when I try to print, it seems to want to revert back to wanting to print on its side. I notice in Cura that when I look at the layers view mode, even after placing the disc flat, it displays on its edge. The diameter is 200mm so although on the limits, its still within the range. Does anyone know why this is occurring.
  6. Hi I have been looking around for some, preferably free, software that will allow for easy manipulation of either stl or obj files. Im looking to be able to import two files, resize them and merge into one. Curious as to what various people use for this.
  7. Hi its the Ultimaker 2 Apologies for the long delays between posting - sadly have not had much of a chance to get printing. I'm just running a print at the moment to see how it gets on. So far seems to be holding up so fingers crossed. Although have yet to put the silver PLA in as this was where I noticed the problem more at first for some reason. Anyway - If this fails I will try reversing the tube, had a message from Sander to try this with the suggestion that it might not have enough grip on one part. The bit that goes into the print head does have a slightly rougher finish, guess this is to ensure a good grip ............................. Update - OK so far so good, have made several prints with a variety of PLA and the tube seems to be firmly in place since I have replaced the grey plug. Many thanks once again Sander for the support. A very happy customer
  8. Quick update, the new connectors arrived, many thanks Sander and apologies for the delay in letting you know they have arrived. I have replaced the grey plug and noticed straight away the difference in how much the blades stick out compared to the other one. The tube also seems more rigid in terms of movement. Have not had a chance to try things yet due to other things but hope to get back to printing this evening.
  9. OK think I have found the solution, thank you IRoberti for nudging me in the right direction. I think it might be the way I am importing the STL files. Will try this http://grabcad.com/questions/how-do-i-convert-stl-graphics-to-a-solid-model
  10. I use solidworks and have been trying to join two STL files together but this doesn't seem to work. Does anyone know how this can be achieved. I'm wondering if perhaps I need to convert the STL files first.
  11. Thanks for the advice, had not thought about adding my own support structure to be honest. Will give that a go
  12. Hi Is it possible to limit the amount of support structure. I have a print which ideally only needs support for the first 20 or so layers, beyond this its not required. The rest of the build, I reckon I could get away with reducing the speed and temperature of the print. Thanks in advance
  13. I didn't spot that one either. must admit, im very impressed with how much the UM2 can span. I forgot to add supports to something I was doing last night, it suddenly struck me when it was approx 2 hours into the build, fortunately it handled it no problem. It was only 40mm but my heart kind of missed a beat when it started on the area. Well impressed with the way it coped.
  14. Second that Mattkaz  , totally awesome bit of kit. Well worth the wait so recommend you hang fire Kada.
  15. OK... update on the UM2. Had a really good chat with Sander at the show, who explained what I need to look for on the printer. (gr5 - I said hi from you) On investigation, it seems that on my device, the plastic connector with the four blades, which holds the tube, two of these do not stick out as much as the others, it is very minimal but given they are the ones next to each other and not opposite I would imagine that when sufficient tension is applied this is enough to allow the tube to release. Overall it doesn't appear to be causing a problem with the printing, I just need to make sure its located before I do a materials change. Sander did say he would be able to get one of these in the post anyway so that's great. Thanks Sander for the explanation and also the other bits of info in your talk later that day, have already started to dive into the settings and getting some really good results. Especially with the silver PLA. Will post some images up when I have the final design complete.
  16. ok yes that's good we are talking about the same thing then There is a clip, red, on the top which secures the tube in place - so doesn't look like it will come out totally, its just I have noticed the tube pulls away a little once the retraction starts. At the start, the tube locates into the white retainer above the print head. There must be some locking mechanism on this as when the printer is stationary, I am able to push the tube back into place and it then locks, feels kind of like the plastic plumbing speedfit units. Initially I spotted this on the silver but think it might have been that I happened to notice it more. I did wonder if the tube needs to pull away slightly once it starts to prevent it melting ? I will be at a 3D print show in London over the weekend and Ultimaker are there, so will ask the guys at the show if this is an issue.
  17. OK making sure we are talking of the same thing. I mean the plastic tube that runs into the print head. I notice when ever I use the silver, the plastic tube pulls back and you can see the PLA exposed just above the head. Once the print has finished I push this back in place. OK edit - Just spotted the same occurs with the Blue. As far as I can tell, the only issue is when replacing the PLA, I have to make sure that the tube is seated correctly as this can cause some issues with the feed. Once the tube is re seated, I am unable to pull this away, it seems this occurs when the print starts or rather the PLA gets retracted. Is this something that I need to be concerned about?
  18. Interestingly, on my UM2 I have just noticed this only happens with the silver PLA.
  19. Do I need to update the firmware on the UM2, if so is it just a case of connecting PC to printer?
  20. Many thanks for your help on this. For info, I tried removing CURA and then re installed it. Now when I look at that line, it is normal. Looks like I may have had a problem with the initial install of CURA. Had not altered settings since I installed the software and the only thing I can think of is I had a previous older version installed although notice that was installed in a different directory. Very odd, especially as this was the first file I have had a problem with. Gremlins I guess Good thing is im learning quite a bit now, first time I have looked at the code. Still very much a dark art at the moment but its a start Thanks again illuminarti
  21. many thanks, that's very kind of you. Have just sent the file
  22. I have just created a file with solidworks which loads fine in cura but when I go to print it on my Ultimaker2, pretty close to the start of the print a large blob of PLA gets placed on the bed and then blocks the head. What is the best way to diagnose the issue, assume I need to look at the code. Sorry totally new to this so venturing into uncharted waters
  23. Hi Have found an object on the thingiverse which suggests 0 infill 1 perimeter. Where do I find these settings in cura
  24. Probably a long shot but at one point I noticed I wasn't getting any feed. So removed the PLA, I then spotted the stepper had worn a groove in the PLA.
