  1. When I have my original Ultimaker plugged into my computer via USB cable and with the power supply off my Ulticontroller says Ultimaker ready along with other machine info, I can upload the firmware, and also run the first part of the bed level wizard where connection is established. The moment I turn on the power supply my Ultimaker will lose connection to Cura and my Ulticontroller display goes from displaying my Ultimaker information to just white blocks. If I turn the power supply back off the Ultimaker will not reestablish any kind of connection such as the ability to upload firmware or the first part of the level wizard were connection is established until the computer is restarted. After I restart if I keep the power supply off it will establish connection to Cura in terms of the ability to upload firmware or run the first part of the bed level wizard, and my Ulticontroller will say ready and display the machine info. I' am also unable to print directly from the Ulticontroller, and it does seem like my computer recognizes the Ultimakers connection because it does show up in my COM8 as Arduino Mega. And yes the Ultimaker behaves the same on different PC's. Any help with this would be great I would really like to solve this issue. Thanks.

  3. Thanks, I'll try that. Not sure if this matters, but forgot to mention, if I go to Device Manager in Windows, under my Ports (COM & LPT), Arduino Mega 2560 (COM8) appears, so I'm guessing my PC is recognizing the connection so would that rule out broken PCB board or Arduino?
  4. Yeah this is a hard one to figure out. I tried older versions of Cura, but after that first firmware update Cura won't recognize the machine to put an older version on. I do have a ulticontroller like device that I just hooked up this afternoon, instead of showing usual temp, X,Y, Axis, etc, it's just white squares covering the display. This is the error log I get: Changing monitoring state from 'Offline' to 'Detecting serial port' Connecting to: COM8 (programmer) Error while connecting to COM8: 'Timeout' Serial port list: [u'COM8'] Connecting to: COM8 with baudrate: 250000 (auto) Trying baudrate: 230400 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 4 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 3 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 2 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 1 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 0 Send: M105 Trying baudrate: 115200 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 4 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 3 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 2 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 1 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 0 Send: M105 Trying baudrate: 57600 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 4 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 3 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 2 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 1 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 0 Send: M105 Trying baudrate: 38400 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 4 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 3 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 2 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 1 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 0 Send: M105 Trying baudrate: 19200 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 4 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 3 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 2 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 1 Send: M105 Baudrate test retry: 0 Send: M105 Trying baudrate: 9600 Send: M105 Changing monitoring state from 'Detecting serial port' to 'Closed' Changing monitoring state from 'Closed' to 'Error: No more baudrates to test, and no s...' 5. Yep, everything is still stock. Nothing has been modded.
  6. Nope, no heated bed at all. Definitely made sure everything was checked correctly like which Ultimaker, heatbed, etc.
  7. Hi everyone, how’s it going? I’m having a connection issue with my original Ultimaker and was wondering if you all could offer some advice on what’s wrong. My Ultimaker has been sitting for a month or two and when I went to use it the other day I couldn’t get it to communicate with Cura. I updated to the newest version of Cura, and plugged my Ultimaker into my computer. When I plugged it into my computer Windows automatically recognized a USB device was plugged in and downloaded the Arduino drivers. I ran the Cura first time setup wizard, it was able to upgrade the Marlin firmware, but after that when I went to run checks it couldn't communicate with the machine and kept giving me an error. I restarted Cura and tried to upload the firmware again to see if there was a connection, but no connection to the machine could be found. I have a spare Arduino and spare Chinese imitation Ultimaker PCB control board I was going to use for a custom printer build and decided to hook that up to my Ultimaker to see if that would work. I got the same results as with the original Ultimaker electronics. I hooked everything up, plugged it into my computer, Windows automatically recognized a USB device and downloaded the Arduino drivers. I then ran the Cura first time setup wizard, again it was able to upgrade the Marlin firmware on it, and then like the original after when I went to run the checks it Cura couldn't communicate with the machine and gave me the same error as I got with the original electronics. I restarted Cura and tried to upload the firmware again to see if there was a connection, and just like with my original Ultimaker electronics, no connection to the machine and Cura could be found. I tried different combinations of the two boards and Arduinos and but could never get them to communicate with Cura. I have also tried numerous different USB cables and about three different PC’s to rule anything like that. I also tried hooking just the Arduino’s, and just the Arduino and board together without steppers and stuff up to Cura and still couldn't get any communication. Any ideas what the problem could be? I've spent all day trying to trouble shoot this and still can’t get my machine to work. Any helps appreciated. Thanks!!!
  8. Thanks for the advice; I'm definitely going to print some belt tighteners, as well as some other upgrades. I put the oil that came with it on the leadscrew, thought I read somewhere in the instructions not to oil the axis’s. It makes sense to do it to reduce any friction. I tried my first large print last night with mixed results. I printed the bottom part of a box for the ulticontroller. I noticed I have plastic leaking out between the heater block and the brass pipe after long periods of use. I screwed it in just like the instructions said, any one else have this problem? The top of the piece I printed is ok, some bubbling but you can see where some plastic from the heater block dripped onto it. The bottom on the other hand is awful. You can really see layers, it’s very rough.
  9. Hi all, so I got my Ultimaker last summer, had it assembled within a month by September, tried to do the first run wizard with awful results. The bed would never level, the z endstop would never stop the bed, the nozzle head would dig into the print bed, only a very thin line of plastic would come out or it would just ooze and get everywhere. I tried to fiddle with it for a bit but I think it jammed with plastic, cause then it just stopped extruding all together. Around this time I switched to a new stressful job so I didn't have time to mess with it till the holiday season when I had some time off. Well thanks to an incredibly long weekend last week due to snow, I finally got it to print with acceptable results!!! It's not perfect by any means, but from when this printer first started it was a mess just spewing hot plastic, if it did work at all, but now some cool results. Fiddling with it till the early hours of the morning, I finally got the bed leveling wizard to level it repeatedly without digging into the bed, and actually stopping at the z endstop after that I had to spend a few hours cleaning plastic out of the nozzle so it could extrude. Finally the moment of truth I printed the little robot guy and wow, it actually started to work!!! The kind of drunk looking crooked one is the first one I printed, then I printed a second just to make sure it wasn't a dream, lol. Anyways I have some optical endstops I want to install but need to print the bracket to hook them up now I can, yessss!!! Any tips on how to get better accuracy and detail? I noticed the ears and chest area with those markings didn't really come out well. But for my first real print this is awesome!!! I can't wait to fine tune it!! Thanks for any advice guys and gals!!!
  10. Thanks, glad its not that big of a deal. Luckly nothing else got damaged. I'll grab some thermal adhesive from microcenter tomorrow.
  11. I was finishing assembling my ultimaker this afternoon and broke a small piece off the circuit board when I was sliding the wooden electronics cover on. Does anyone know what this piece is and what it does? Is it important to the function of the machine? And most importantly can I fix this? I included a photo on flicker. Thanks.
