  1. HI All, So I only got the printer on Friday, had a few successful prints so was pretty happy. I was just printing using the quick print (Normal quality) and got OK results, my main issue was with (not sure of the term) but looks like small over prints or excess PLA when moving from one object to another. So reading through here I decided to enable the expert settings and with reading through a few posts edit some of my settings to have a starting base. So when I now try and print (using Ultimaker provided blue PLA) it doesn't look like it laying any (or not enough by a long shot) of filament for the base layer. With the same object if I go back to non expert mode and re slice it it prints fine. Temps are the same between the two and print speed is the same, I know there are plenty of other factors but all I really changed was the 2 settings in retraction to zero and increase the retraction height to 5.5 as was suggested. Another 2 quick ones for you guys (sorry). I had an SD card error, so I simply plugged my computer in and did a install default firmware which went fine, but due to my first layer prints looking funny I went to re level the bed and now the print head moves over the glass holders at the front, which i guess should not happen!? Second is the print time between the cura print time and what it says on the UM2 screen are very different, even when I make print speed to 100%? Not that this is a show stopper just confusing. Thanks for you help in advance.. GBR1
  2. Thanks guys.. Yep, worked out how to get them out. Thanks for the heads up! GBR1
  3. Hi All, Completely new to this game and got my UM2 today so very excited. Carefully unpacked and most things set up. So I went to load the filament and had to push hard, but the manual said this was the case so no problem. The filament loaded but then as it came through I noticed this. Please see picture. http://flic.kr/p/hWnMGJ Obviously this is from the factory test print, is it normal to always have this after changing filaments of should I somehow remove it? A swift reply if possible as I want to get printing:) Many thanks GBR1
  4. Thanks everyone.. As I can buy from Fabersashry by the meter I will get some from them and also order some from colorfabb and compare.. Are people fnding with different colours (both PLA for example) you have to change the variables much (ie extrusion temp etc)? Looking forward to experimenting but advance knowledge is always handy! 5. Hi JonnyB No they dont yet, the guy told me they are going to start selling some on spools if required. This should start very soon, before the end of the year.. Looking forward to seeing the holder! GBR1
  6. Thanks everyone, well, looks like Faerdashry it is.. I phoned them and they were very helpful.. He (Andrew) said I should just print an adjustable spool holder to put the filament on. I have had a quick scout (and will continue to do so) through Thiingiverse as he sujested, does anyone on here have a tried and tested version for the UM2? Many thanks GBR1
  7. I am in the UK.. I will check out colorfabb as well. Thanks for the swift replys so far.
  8. Hi All, After deliberating for a while which printer to get I have finally ordered a UM2. So I am now looking a where to get the filament from.. As a newbi to all this I would rather spend a bit more and get a "reliable" fliament to start with so I can eliminate as many of the possible upcoming errors as possible.. The filament market is as much of a minefield as the printer market so any advice is welcom. Initially I was looking at geting some PLA and ABS (I know the UM2 comes with a roll but is that PLA or ABS?) and is it from FormFutura, are they the supplier to Ultimaker? The other company that is spoken highly of is Faberdashry, any thoughts on their products? I am in the UK so most of these companies can ship easily! Many thanks in advance for you help and advice! GBR1
