  1. i have an ultimaker origonal, so no heated bed :( that will be the next upgrade i get (maybey ask for it as a birthday gift?) and the second i do, i will be happy as a pig amoung guinnie pigs with lack of warping! Im also not sure what my settings were for that ptinr, i exported it to the SD card over three weeks ago, and have been printing many other items since then, i think a main issue with the print is i opted for "open bottom" just becuse i didnt want 5 layers, thick solid lump, which would be needed for the flat top, but still a fill desity of about 18% on that note, why is the ultimaker + €200 more than the standard ultimaker origonal, yet the heated bed upgrade is €245!! where is this magical €45 coming from? surely it should be less, as its an upgrade for an existing customer? however, SHE LIVES!!!!!! At least the project is out in hte public, behold THE model of THE British gulf war memorial! (now just to get the pieces to an actual professional to paint it, fill it, sand it, add fake grass and all sorts!
  2. sporry, i was full blown panick attack mode, i blacked out and dont remember this post at all it was week 3 in a row of attempting to print this part. sorted the warping by getting a mini blow torch, re-melting some of the plastic, and pushing it down into the bseboard! the print is actually so big, i have had to sadly print with no brim :(
  3. once again guys, im just having MASSIVE issues with prints utterly refusing to stick to the build plate, and i have a deadline to meet, and i have already missed it, and people have started promising stuff without me knowing, anf its all just going so wrong guys, and i need help bad, right now. blue tape + alcohol + PLAPHA colorfabb shite + higher flow rate on base layer + higher teperature on base layer = just still not sticking. the useless machine has been working perfectly all week, but the one big job, the one where i would need a whole weekend to do, the one where i am actually getting paid, nope. wont even attempt to stick, and starts warping like a warped memoery of a criminal! one side will stick fine, perfectly fine, the other will just shoot up in the air like no-ones business, not to mention my tools have gone walkabouts, by printer keeps on messing up (ulticontroller is so bad, you click an opting, but then screen updates dfue to massive lag) and i just cant get it to work one bit!
  4. hmm. massive reverse centrefuge setup for an ultimaker so no dodgey bridging?
  5. sorry for a bit of a plug, but my (unamed so as not to egt banned) packaging company i work for should have contacted ultimaker over a year ago about trying to win business and a redesign, probably our sales team being as super (un)efective as always! However Cleven, it is good to hear you got enough to buy some new pannels, it is likely a shame in the inevitable delay before you can get going :(
  6. So this is a dust cover / noise reducer / heated chamber combo (in that order of importance/ effectiveness) for my ultimaker origonal with added controller I used to use a bin bag, but that was ugly and tore wuite a bit, and now i have neighbours i need to keep the printer a bit quieter, as my priting room touches there childrens bedroom (however i hacnt heard a single noise from them, so i assume the walls are think) Now i also happen to be a packaging designer, with a HUGE XY plotter table, massive sheets of "only the best" material at my disposal, and a little bit of power over what gets to be done with what, so i cooked this little baby up Its made from 28mm (3mm fine layer) PE foam, cut on the table, and slotted together. we also make 25mm black, so i cut some extra parts in black, and replaced the holes left in the white material (sorry for plagiarizing your logo ultimaker!!). the good thing about this method, is you get left with a negative, so i may need to find somewhere to hang this! (potato camera) As for sound reduction, well it actually works, sort of, the material is quite thin and isnt designed to be sound proof. may buy some sound dampening foam and stick it to the top of the box!
  7. went for the trolley, as it was buy a £35 ikea trolley, or pay another £80 for an extra half a meter of work surface, good thing is trolley will be the same height as (healthy) stand up work surface, and i cant imagine you would have much success with an ultimaker on a shelf on the wall! i do like the couch idea, maybey the living room table may get a use after-all...
  8. excelent, so really its closer to a wooden ultimaker 2 than an origonal. nice to see them even improving on what was already a fantastic kit built model.
  9. So, the new origonal has been out for some time, but what is the difference. images show the extruder motor looks differen, and a new hot end fan case, and heated build plate, but any differences, anyone got one, im truly fascinated by the one image i found on google of the new extruder "gear" edit: if you are wondering whre i saw the info http://3dprint.com/15971/ultimaker-original-heated-bed/
  10. i would love a teeny tiny one, like a tantillus or micro 3D, just a nice novelty, i still think for home hobby printing, an ultimaker is pretty cool.
  11. curses, JUST missed it, and just when i got rnough space for those big 'ol faber "spools"
  12. just tried to join the group, look out for the guy in teh leet armour. i think i almost survived this seasons sale!
  13. ok, so maybey this barely counts, but i am into my new place, and got myself an Ikea Bekvam kitchen trolly. i dont know about you, buy ultimakers and Bekvam were almost made for each other! (sorry about the mess, when i say i mved in, i really mean, just moved in!) and yes, phone cameras, even on "night time portrait" are, well phone cameras. what do you expect from a camera that tiny! i hope to develop the rest of that "green wall" into usable worktop space to finnaly get onto some proper model making! I just hope the walls are thick enough for the neighbours, or i will have to test out if my companies sound insulation foam is really as good as they claim!
  14. too true, but then again, that's why the house/ apartment i am looking for must have at least 2 rooms, even if one is a tiny tiny room! and what will be centre stage in there wonder how many people have specified to the estate agent "must have 3D printing suitable room"
  15. cracking video GR5, finally a video that shows a less bias view on how they sound, and my the 2 is DEFINITELY much quieter! however i must have a bad stepper motor, as i have recently found out when moving on just one of the axis (either x or y) its much much quieter
  16. A grumpy step parent who has hinted for the past year that i should move out. its funny as my actual parent LOVES the sound it makes, almost thinks it sounds like music! the difference is the dishwasher, and the fridge, and the vacuum cleaner etc are not things that I have brought, so they are fine :( the second it is a nice thing that i have its unacceptable.
  17. true. i feel as though i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place :/ I have tried explaining that stuff makes noise. i wish there was just a shop i could walk into and hear one in action for myself for a comparison.
  18. have already done that, used a noise reduction mount, with a sorbathane mount to stop even more noise, use sound dampening feet, added small rubber o rings to all the stepper motor mounts to reduce noise. i personally think it runs quiet as a mouse compared to what it did before, but it apparently has to go.
  19. Oh no no no! I absolutely adore my ultimaker, I wouldnt want to change it for the world, I have just been threatened that I either get rid of it or get a quieter 3D printer, or it will go out the window. But what better 3d printer to get than a better ultimaker, and one of the quietest on the market! its just my current UM1 I am very reliant on USB printing (i have toyed with getting an ulti controller), but for the money, and lack of space to even fit a controller to the front, and the "noise" complaints (they should come and spend an hour with the cubex we have at work!) I think its the only way. but I was just asking the UM2 experts instead of making assumptions
  20. well after threats about my ultimaker 1 going through the window / its power connected or "it would be a shame if the power breakers were to go when you were printing" i am tempted to get rid of my relatively new Ultimaker origonal, and go for a V2 however, i actually DON'T like the idea of SD card printing. i like to be able to very quickly very easily change things on the fly, but very specific things. I like the way Cura 14.01 makes it easy to control temperature, jog, extrude and different speeds very easily I especially like the way you can easily change speeds for different parts of the model, e.g an extremely wide round base can run at 160% for infil, but still only 100% for outer wall, but when it gets to a complicated bit where there will need to be some bridging, slow it all the way down. but what i have seen from the ulticontroller and the Ultimaker 2 built in controller, it looks like you can only change everything as an overall %, not change the 4 different fields (like you would printing via USB) but everywhere i look it either says printing via USB (having to use reprap code) is unreliable or it just rarely mentions it so to all you with a version 2, i can see the benefits, but i don't want to get stung hard.
  21. luckly i was printing very hot, so i was able to slow it down before the temperature reset itself. i can imagine it was a loose wire. i did have my ultimaker on its side today as i cleaned the circuit board under-neat with an air duster and saw what would happen if i put a bit of white lithium grease in the fan that cools the circuit board to stop it sound like a large tractor engine, so i can imagine something may have been knocked slightly.
  22. so for a short period of time my ultimaker (v1) running cura 14.01 (i like to be able to control speeds and such for now!) had a sudden moment where it either couldn't get to correct temperature, or couldn't display what temperature it was at. its alive and kicking now, but im a bit worried. i don't want to have to replace a thermostat again (first time was due to a little bit too much brute force on my part!) nor do i want a 3rd failed print (first time due to me not noticing a slice error (thanks to my model) and second time good ol' windows automatic update restarted my computer. anyone know what this could be? once again i was too foolish to check the small built in "debug" in the control software.
  23. i have heard faberdashery are better, but (as you know by now) they do not come on spools :( This means you have to make your own, and they wind it much wider, meaning someone like me with a space only just capable of fitting an ultimaker and a single spool in, has a problem with the larger spool requirements.
  24. you wont pay the silly money some people want? well if you want an ultimaker V1, assembled NOW NOW NOW! you may have to pay the silly money. where are you located in the UK? how long would you need i for?
  25. while i do have to say the new UI is, lacking (i had a nice set-up where i would extrude a bit before i printed) and not to mention i had about 2M left on my spool so really needed to change filament i have to say that: the new cura speed is phenomenal (if a little scary when viewing an item from a distance, looks lie you have lots of holes in layer mode) and the new support structure its fantastic Daid, great work, now to see it in action! all that bitching and moaning i have done will pay off. and i do agree, the open source-nes of the Pronterface UI should really really help you actually spend time weeding out bugs, not constantly fixing UI issues!
