  1. layer height was 0.08 so can go even better! shell only 0.4 speed 40mm/s 220C 2.9mm diameter and 100% flow on the second one, i decided to keep the roof there, and i used raft just to light it off the baseboard. cant wait to try to print my first loco! they are also really really small, only 21mm wide each! once again Ultimaker to the rescue. i think i must have stirred something elsewhere as someone contacted me about modelling tips (in sketchup) ,and how they just ordered a V2 as they were so impressed with the speed and precision! also, note the second image (box van) the two large blobs are where i (for the second and third time) had a completely random HUGE retraction, must have retracted nearly 20cm of filament before going, back!
  2. not posted for some time, just trying out some model railway carriages! i didn't design this file, just printed them really liking the Colorfabb blue-grey, gives that model making look! some amazing detail, im amazed it got all the slats in the wood! a little bit of clean-up and some setting tweaks (these were super fast!) and they could look fantastic.
  3. what order did it print in? i think cura will print in order of files imported, not the standard front right to back left?
  4. note that i have genuinely had issue printing items if i don't follow certain guidelines, some models are designed around a 0.1mm layer height ETC
  5. that's a good point. i wonder what formatting you need for it though, and whether you can re-format those clever little wifi SD cards
  6. well i guess its not an image (secrets n stuff) but i can talk about it. i work at a packaging company and, well, we have just started growing packaging. quite literally. now what's more interesting, is thanks to 3D printing (in general) it means that the prototype moulds that we grow the packaging in cane be made cheaply, easy to recycle and all in house! just another example of how 3D printing is helping in the modern world. we aren't 3D printing packaging, but we are using rapid prototyping to push forward. (i hope i can bend the lead designers arm to buy a couple of ultimakers. he said he would rather buy 10 £2k printers than 1 £20K printer)
  7. aha its stuff like this where i wish i was more mobile. i can imagine that the spring / summer fair stuff at the NEC could be hot places for 3D printing!
  8. it all comes down to cost i would say. the V2 is of course more expensive, but the build quality is much better, its not made from wood, its very quiet (from what i have heard) and its got very good accuracy and speed whereas the V1 can come in kit form, and as its currently on offer that's under €1000 which is amazing. kit form will require some skill to build, but not too much. i have a V1 which was a kit and it was probably more fun assembling it but if you want very accurate very high detail prints using FFF printing (this type of printing) and the amazing CURA software, then ultimaker is the way to go. from what i gather UM2 is more for in the office, and UM 1 for in the hobby shed, but both are absolutely fantastic. also not the UM2 has a heated build plate, which is almost a requirement for ABS, whereas the UM1 only has blue tape and is more aimed towards PLA filament.

  10. i think for upcoming places this would be fantastic. i imagine the buildings would last barely past 30 years, but would be a nice start for some places. can imagine alot of angry builders though, not realising thet there job would now be playing with giant printers
  11. https://www.ultimaker.com/products/ultimaker-original damn, that's not only a knife in the chest of the price drop, but then its being twisted with not only the doodle3d but a FREE Uti-controller :/ on the bright side though, could this mean a drop in the price of the ulticontroller? and nothing is better than having more people enjoy the joys of assembling there own 3D printer, and making sure its an ultimaker but damn, that price drop is the whole PS4 i had to cancel :/
  12. so GR5 (im pretty sure it's you) you know how to do this. i am printing an item where part of it would beneficial to have really high density infill, however the rest of it is very large and doesn't require such a high level of infil (we are talking the bottom 1/6 th needs around 60% and the top 5/6th's need barely 20% are there any programs out there for this? or any tips for creating 2 Gcode prints and then finding a point and mixing them together? also, i'm sure there is a thread somewhere, i just have no idea what it would be titled. many thanks, 0235
  13. that final picture is the one that i am having to use after modifying it so it can print without support structures. sorry if i got angry, but it has quite literally been every single day (except Saturday, i was of shooting up The Embassy in Leicester XD) trying to print this thing. i took holiday Thursday through to today specifically for time to 3D print and it hasn't worked. yes the new support structure does just peel of nicely in one big chunk, if it wants to come off in one big chunk without taking the rest of the model with it. everyone puts a lot of work in and sometimes its all too easy to just blame everyone else, not realising that they do are a person :( anyway : @IRobertI - that's what confuses me so much. i knew i was buying the second highest (after the UM2) Z axis 3D printer, PERFECT for model making, which is why i got it, but for it to get stumped by this just eludes me. also it was determinately on touching buildplate. the support structure just angled off into the gaps. its hard to explain. @valcrow - good spot, its a cheek guard for my gas rifle, so i don't get a blast of ice cold propane to the face @illuminarti - as harsh as it sounds, if i paid for ultimaker, i want my software to be ultimaker home grown. i have tried Kisslicer and that was like looking at a wall of 1's and 0's. there is a reason i use sketchup (seriously? no smiley face with a dunce hat?) @Daid - Cura is pretty awesome for everything but support structure that's another reason i went ultimaker as Cura was just drag a piece in, move it around, scroll through all the layers etc. i just await future updates
  14. oh look. it failed again. one more failed print, and i think it will be a case of a new listing on the ultimaker for sale section. i am literally printing what is essentially a Table with 2 very fat legs. nothing more, nothing less. the problem is the support structure wont support the area that needs support (similar to what Vlacrow posted) and the areas that are way less than a 40 degree angle, it decides to start burrowing into the moles in the model, and filling gaps, so its impossible to get the support structure out, and when you need to start putting nuts and bolts in there, it makes it almost impossible to get out. i mean c-mon ultimaker, you can print this: but you cant print this?!?!? REALLY!?!?!: i even tried flipping it up on its end to see if that helped, and it still randomly filled in the screw holes when i didn't want it to, or when it didn't need to, so of course that didn't work either the worst par though, i have one sitting right here on my desk. and I'm using the same settings, and it just wont print again. i just don't get it. working planetary gears, detail sculptures, complex space ship parts, it all handles like a dream. a flat bed on top of 2 rectangles though. oh no that's far too complicated. what basically happens is the support structure gets too close to the part and just welds itself to the base of the model, and then in the indents in the "clips" its all to hasty to get the support structure wide again for the flat overhang, so therefore welds itself inside there as well, and then it pushes into the nut and screw holes, and its all just a disaster. i was there with my scalpel trying to slice away at the structure, but it was stronger than my actual print. and as its an engineered part, i cat adjust any of the wall thickness's or it wont fit. have i really been defeated by this, this pieces? this pieces i could make by hand out of 2 pieces of wood? thats what i dont get and what frustrates me the most. oh no a 1:100 scale replica of a ship from the most detailed game ever, no problem but this. urgh. why!?!? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: so well i have had to once again, design something around traditional FFF printing. was hoping that support structure would save me here, but no. :( yay to ugly prints :(
  15. ok this is an angry topic. i have had t, for maybe a 5th time this week, had to throw something away in the bin, after some LONG print times due to the Cura support structure system is just so so so so bad. It sticks far to hard, i have to use a chisel to et any of it off It supports stuff it shouldn't, and then other very precarious floating pieces it just completely ignores it almost always breaks the pieces i'm trying to make INSTEAD of the actual support structure it rarely actually supports anything. the underside of some items is almost as bad quality as if i had no support i just generally don't get on with it at all. i have had to resort to manually adding support structure to all my models, and that really really is just ridiculous i am not a happy bunny ultimkaer. not a happy bunny at all. that's a lot of money and time (which i have very little of neither (i took bloody holiday off for these prints!!!)) for your software to frack it all up!
  16. well working on two things! first is still my model space ship and here are the stairs, with some international scale references! a dime, penny, Ha'penny and a 10 Eurocent piece! The detail is just phenomenal, and that is still nowhere near maximum resolution, aaaaaaand now for something a bit more, erm, ban-able? (i hope not!)   17. worth asking around on the forum for good materials to make the cases from. i think a lot of people use plexi glass, that way you can see inside perfectly. one that comes to mind is this one, however that's more construe onto the actual ultimaker. the danger with putting it all in a box is the sensitive electronics on the bottom, which need to also be cooled, would be exposed to abnormal temperatures. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:88456

  19. my ultimaker 1, base to top of bowden tube is at least 600mm, and that's it not even in its highest possible positing, so i dont think it will be high enough. ever thought about asking a local carpenter or case maker? i know you can find all sorts of people online
  20. this is according to a website called 3D hubs. i believe a leaflet for it came with my ultimaker, so could explain why so many people with UM's have registered on that website, so that's just the stats for that website, however, it shows buyers are going fo the right choice

  24. hmm how would i look at the Gcode, would it be in the "Term" tab? if so i cant see and retraction errors there
