  1. i thought the layers may be slightly too thick, and it is going fast ish (its a relatively big part) excellent about the enable combing. that has always bugged me, and looks very ugly. i think im printing at such low temperatures as lower temperatures are slightly better for stringing, but the new cura with more retraction has helped that dramatically.
  2. hello, me again. so someone called me out on this in a previous thread, about missing out some lines, almost like it was going to separate. so i was printing the ultimaker handle as a nice big test print, and i had quite a few places where it almost missed out on extruding the outer wall. so it isn't effecting the internal strength, just looks a bit ugly. currently using the latest version of cura and firmware on the "original" machine, and using ultimaker blue filament (not that you can tell from the lovely colour balance!) and here are my machine specs im using.
  3. hello from the UK when i ordered my ultimaker i ordered a roll of ABS, (knowing it would come with a free roll of PLA) not quite realising how tricky it was to change from PLA to ABS and keep swapping, so i have an unopened and obviously unused roll of ultimaker ABS for sale on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Ultimaker-White-ABS-Filament-New-3mm-3D-printer-/171206539797?hash=item27dcb47a15 please note this is a one off, i don't plan on becoming a distributor, however if negotiations with faberdashery fail, i may also have some of there filament to sell SOLD! can delete / lock thread now
  4. zombie thread, sorry, but congratulations charlotte. a great and very simple design, but my lord competition was stiff! the first one by iroberti and the ultimaker evolution tshirt were also fantastic. some clever people out there!
  5. oh my lord these are beautiful and may i just quote "i change the roof as it was too flat" looks like we got someone who actually gets 3D printing
  6. merry christmas, don't get the beard caught in the drive belt haha!
  7. thanks for the tips. to me 11.5mm seems so short! i think that tiny amounts of under-extrusion are present, however i believe that was due to slightly low temperature. however after the new version of cura, with much further retraction, stringing just isn't happening any-more, at all! didn't even know those settings existed to do with adjusting when retraction happens. thanks for the advice, as always.
  8. im using raft as it was my second print and i didn't know what a raft was haha! but as always some great tips. i understand that my 220 may be someone else's 210 or 230! also print speed, thankfully im not to concerened about the crazy 300m/s and regularly set it on 60, and sometimes slow certain elements to 80% i never thought about increasing the thickness of the top / bottom layer to help this, however it makes complete sense! either way, its printing amazingly well, the picture isn't doing it justice. some of the errors lower down are due to temperature being too low, and using a layer thickness of 1.8 for speed! however the stringing on the inside was very odd, it did it near the bottom (you can see the screw holes are covered slightly) and near the top, might be a bug with the new today version of cura, not sure, either way that's why i have model making chisels!
  9. i will see about posting some images. 1) usually around 60mm/s 2) usiualy 0.1mm 3) 200-205 4) yes PLA from the looks of things it is likely that i just let the print start to soon and don't let enough filament out. it is almost perfect on any vertical, and honestly the top and bottom surfaces are pretty much perfect anyway. apologies for AWFUL image. phone camera, poor lighting etc. by a mesh i mean ever so slight, notice the tiny tiny black dots on the print top surface i believe that that image is actually before i lowered the height (or should i say moved the bed up slightly) so its not quite as pronounced, and i think my x motor was having tiny amounts of backlash (again i believe gr5 you did a fantastic explanation on it!)
  10. so in the bed levelling wizard it says "so that the extrusion tip is just touching the bed" does this mean it is literally touching it, or just enough to smoothly run some thin paper under it? i have been looking at that wonderful picture posted by GR5 in this thread http://umforum.ultimaker.com/index.php?/topic/3218-new-hotend-underextrusion-and-stringing/ and those first "perimiter" lines are far far thicker than what i am getting, i am also getting where the tops and bottoms of printers are more like a mesh, with tiny tiny holes, than a solid surface, however other than that, i am having few issues
  11. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-25465938 so the BBC did a tiny little snipet about a charity 3D printing toys for children and look, ultimakers!!!
  12. wow! strange my whole family is Nottingham! and yes 0235, its an old log in for school computers, and i just stuck with it ever since. amazed how many places im able to get that log in!
  13. hello all! some of you may have already come across me on the forum, posting the odd topic, but its now my turn to say hi Been assembling My ultimaker since last Sunday, and had it fired up and ready to go the friday just gone, and finally have got pretty close to some amazing looking prints. I have to say it was a rough decision choosing to get an Ultimaker version 1. money isn't my strongest side, but tech is. I was tempted by an RepRapPro Ormerod, but i needed higher detail, and a small space. I was then wowed by the forum, almost every issue i thought / knew i would have, i found. i found the fantastic "post assembly guide" by Aaron, which made assembly and calibration a dream, and the constant stream of calibration tips about heat, speed and backlash have made me print some fantastic things i have also seen the fantastic first print recommendation, new fan ducts, feet for noise, frames to reduce extrusion motor noise (if my house had a basement, i would live in it (my parents are very picky about noise!)) (i have to say that the Ultimaker is very quiet!) and of course, my thanks just have to go out to the ultimaker team. you have created an amazing machine, very high detail, compact and quiet, the price is a bit, eeeeeehh,,, well never mind, but worth every penny. i hope that the ultimaker will launch my model making passion even further, and hey. after bringing in a 3D printed cube to work, I may have just been promoted to "we are thinking about getting an expensive 3D printer for prototyping and we need someone with experience" so prepare for me asking many many questions, and occasionally posting the odd thing or two. i tend to be a forum trawler, not a thread starter. also, if you are in the east Midlands, or really anywhere in the UK, don't be afraid to ask me to print a test sample of something if you are tempted to get this fantastic machine
  14. nevermind. ultimaker origonal. turned out i hat the red left rear stop switch cable caught in the plywood, causing it to bend slightly its alot quite now. however im wondering, what should the PLA look like going through the Bowden tube? should it have marks on it? nice tip on moving it with finger pushing and the sewing machine oil. i imagine some may have come off during assembly!
  15. hello. just been running some oddly successful prints, however i have noticed my Y stepper motor is alot louder than the X motor, any trouble shooting, could it be belt too loose / tight, or possibly faulty stepper motor, it isn't effecting print quality though.
  16. so just went on the wiki and noticed the home page has changed to some spam advert? anyway of rolling it back?
  17. after actually looking, not just using the search function, i actually found a topic right below this one. urgh. my stupidity knows no bounds it would seem
  18. Just a quick question as to what people keep in there ultimaker day to day tool box. I guess edge cutters for fillament, a putty knife, blue tape (+ knife to trim it down) and pliers are all key tools, but anything more that people keep handy? I hear medical needles are great for unblocking? What other suggestions do people have? PS any thread related to this, or even if this is posted in thhe wrong section, just point me in the right direction
  19. i feel i will be using this guide alot when it comes to building and calibrating my V1! thanks for the many tips!
  20. wow. all i can say is so far ultimaker support has been lightning fast. i also knew it would be "yes, that really cheap filamnet from ebay will be awful" i can imagine it being very inconsistent diameter, and lots of air bubbles. i belive faberdasherry was actually the site i was also interested in, and very good prices!
  21. Hello ultimkaer world! someone here who is so new, my ultimaker still hasn't arrived! just looking if there is a supplier in the UK that sells ultimaker filament. i have seen that Ebay does really cheap filament, and well, i just dont trust that. is it better to buy it direct from the source so i can guarantee quality? (PS are there any rules about selling ultimaker filament on ebay, i foolisly oredered a single roll of PLA and a single roll of ABS, not realising how much of a chore it is to purge the system for the new material!) many thanks, and expect many more Newby questions from me
