  1. Thanks for the pictures. I had already opened the casing of the extruder (after removing the white shield etc). From what i see compared to the pictures (link in illuminarti's reply) the metal screw (used for tensioning may be?) is not standing as proud as shown in the pictures. Also, i tried tightening the small screw which attaches the knurl as much as i can but the story repeats. Not sure where i went wrong. Should the tensioner screw stand proud or driven in? Uma
  2. Hi there, I got an Ultimaker 2 recently. I have been using the machine for the last one week. I made some successful prints using PLA blue. What is unfortunate is that the material feeder has lost its tension. I tried adjusting the screw in the extruder mechanism but to no avail. As it stands, even though the gap between the stepper knurl and the white head is small inserting material is no longer tough. The day i got the printer it was very difficult to push the mateiral in. Now, its very easy. The material reaches upto the extruder but not past the extruder head. I tried removing the bowden and pushed filament by hand which worked. This squarely leaves to failure of extruder mecahnism. Now, If i try to print, the small nut on the stepper connecting the knurl becomes loose and the stepper just stops. For now, the machine is down and i have some important prints to do. Overall the machine looks good from the outside but i am deeply concerned about the build quality. I waited for UM2 more than a month. I am not sure whether its worth the wait. 1) Have any of you faced a similar problem 2) Is there an assembly instruction for UM2 feeder. I am still not sure how the adjustment screw inside the assembly works. It just keeps on rotating as i try to tighten it. Your help is much appreciated. Uma
  3. @illuminarti Thanks for the feedback. The fan in the back is running 100%. What is the significance of that fan? i thought it is to cool the head as necessary? The formula you have given is helpful. I will try to do the vase again with the settings you have mentioned. Recently, i did the infamous frog at a very low speed 30mm/s @ 220C and .1 layer thickness. The top portion of the frog came briliantly smooth but the underbelly was coarse and over extruded ? is that normal?

    Netfabb for UM2

I hear the combing option in Cura has bugs with UM2. A lot of dripping and stringing is happening with Cura. I am looking for an alternative to Cura.
  5. Folks, I tried searching the web about UM2 and Netfabb. Anyone out there who is using netfabb for UM2? Is the engine for UM2 the same as UM? I could not find the pricing options for UM2. Uma
  6. Hay! Thanks for the feedback. The first image is a stratum vase http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:104120/#files I will try with 50mm @ 220 C to see whether the Vase prints out fine. I have seen in youtube videos that UM is shockingly fast in printing. Is UM2 not a fast machine? But in all those videos the quality of print has not been discussed. What i am trying to get is what are the optimal settings Speed and temprature to get a decent finish. Uma
  7. Hi There, I am new to this community. I just got a UM2 and i am really excited. I am working with the latest version of Cura 13.12. I am not able to figure out what the right settings are to get a decent enough print. The material i am testing right now are blue PLA 3mm and translucent green 3mm. I am testing out the settings as follows. I got these settings from UM2 forum but i dont see that the print quality to be appreciable. 100 mm/sec @.1mm 200 C More info Fill Density: 15% Bottom/Top thickness: .6 Shell thickness:.8 Initial layer thickness: .2 Cut off Object: 0.0 Dual Extrusion: 1.5 Travel Speed: 250mm/s Bottom layer speed: 20 mm/s infill speed: 0 Cooling fan: enabled Expert settings Combing: enabled Minimum travel (mm) :1 Minimal Extrusion before retracting: 0 I am just disappointed with the print quality. I am sure UM2 can do better. Please help me get there. Thanks Uma
