  1. I usually make my own model but not this time Needed to be made in a hurry for the tournement, I downloaded it from thingsiverse
  2. My boyfriend wasn't too interested in 3d printing, Printed this for his hearstone tournement at work, planning to airbrush a silver and bronze one, He's sold now.
  3. Hey guys! Just thought I would drop a little thread to try and answer this big big questions... How to improve my overhang? This is the main issue I am experiencing with my machine, So far everything is usually working great except....those damn overhangs! I tried the automated support from cura today on a print request I got. Not only did the print take an impossible amount of time to print, the result were such poor quality. Of course the print didn't fail but it was pretty much a mess. Took some time and modeled some support myself. Overall the print is way better than the first, but a lot of wasted time and still, the bottom of the object is far from being very smooth. The person that requested the print from me is usually printing with a makerbot machine. The machine is broken so he requested me to do the print for him. He sent me the result he was getting with the automated support from Makerbot and the difference is quite huge. Any reason why he would get such great quality with automated support from the makerware and not me from Cura? Is this a machine or slicer issue? Any suggestions in general on how to improve the overhang/support etc. I've been trying to print a lot of model and most of the time that really always is an issue. Seem like the magenta is harder to print with too. I was getting better quality with the silver PLA from ultimaker. Anyway here some images My client result Overhang of My first print with automated support from Cura (lines) Print with homemade support, Better but still :/ far from the client's result Other exemple of overhang issue Any ideas guys?
  4. Yah I kind of needs to know too... I,ve tried pieces with overhang way easier than this with way shittier result
  5. That is an.. interesting spot for a printer I suppose!
  6. Made some great prints recently, unfortunatly cannot share them yet as they are character I made under Non-disclosure-agreement. Here's a little quickie model I did this afternoon and decided to print for fun. Any fans of Attack on Titan? Small little flaws tho, One of the ''triangle'' at the bottom curved a bit so the surface isn't as good as the other one. I have a line across one of the shape on the logo too. Not too sure why that happened, it's not on the design and it's the only one like it
  7. Facebook for me is more of a place to stay connected with fellow character artist around the world. There is a lot little group to share tricks, tutorials and even got some contract offers throught facebook. There is some 3d printing group now too with people sharing prints and tricks (not as cool as this forum, of course) Anyway I do understand what you are saying Robert
  8. Marie-Michelle Pepin, Skint found me haha, my picture is the same I have over here
  9. I aldready use decimation master wich is a zbrush pluggin use to drastically drop the polycount count of an object for 3d printing purposes. the model was maybe, 1.5 million before, I reduced it to about 300 000. The thing bugging me is that I printed that exact model the same day, just a bit smaller Just wanted to increase the size of it, still with the same model. and just won't work. Always seem to have something to do with the shell thickness, when I have it back at .8 it works again, but it's a bit thin for the size of it I think :/
  10. Just wondering if anyone else is having those kind of issue? It's pretty random, sometimes files just won't finish slicing (always stop after the up-down skirt) I printed a model without any issue this morning, wanted it a big bigger, tried to reslice...Nope! I had to randomly move around the parameter for the shell thickness (yah it was increment of the .4 nozzle, it was at 2mm, just like this morning) but Nope, it won't happen It's pretty weird, Now I bring it down to 0.8 andit seem sto slice again but that is just a bit annoying since I wanted the shell not to be so thin. Anyone? im on 14.05
  11. @Valcrow, wow, this is some very clean prints!
  12. Skint : Really? I was actually shy to post that picture because I felt it looked messy! Can be actually quite surprising, when I was working in a studio the, very fews, girl always had way messier desk than most of the guys! Nicolinux, Sorry my bad about my english, I'm not sure what you mean by dampers/cushioning. Definitly would like to know what other people are using!
  13. Manage to take it out but wasn't easy, apparently needed the arms of a man. When I pulled it out the grinded part of the filament came out with it. Happy it finally came out, I was starting to really wonder when I would be able to use it again anytime soon!
  14. :/ seems like it's impossible for me to remove the bowden tube at the top of the extruder. I pushed back the white part down but the bowden tube just isn't coming out!
  15. Haha sorry for the noob question, the bowden tube is the little plastic-transparent tube that goes from the extruder to the printing head? I'm not sure how to remove it? I want to be sure not to damage anything
  16. Picturesss! I really try to pull kind of hard during the ''change material'' thinghy and it's very stuck :/ I am not able to remove the filament I had a print to do for someone tomorow, not too sure what to do, Anyone?
  17. I tried to do a material change today, Seems like the extruder grinded the filament... Can't manage to remove the filament from it, help?
  18. The polycount was quite high but it still seems less stable that in the previous version. I wouldn't remember the exact polycount tho, it's been a little while now, I remember having to lower it (or it would refuse to slice) but even after lowering the polycount, I had to enter my parameter before to avoid cura hanging on me everytime I try to change something.
  19. Just wanted to let people know, If you are in the Quebec province (Canada) the taxes and duties are quite high, I payed 460$CAD so do not let yourself get surprised
  20. Hahaha I'm so sorry, it was just a small little question!! I aldready knew about the filler primer but I was wondering if people where using specific brand and where they could find it. I bought one brand over here and it's a car primer but I'm not so sure about the result. It seems like it's so liquid and it create drip all over the model, plus I could only find it in a red color, Would rather be able to find it in a white-gray color like most people have been using here. You should be proud tho I did make a post in the question area for my (maybe) bloked nozzle XD
