  1. Korneel, I did not make an extension cable yet, had the components in backorder at Conrad. The motor cable is long enough to place the motor outside. I'm still planning a few things for the rail system, f.e. an extension cable with a break out box for the 2 motor connections (to be prepared for a dual extruder) & a stronger version of my feeder combined with a mountplate (when you remove the feeder from the original place there's more design freedom to make the parts bigger & stronger) In the meantime I got the components from conrad, now i just need to find time.....
  2. Or if fixed position setting is too difficult or too much work or to messy in the gui.... maybe just the option too turn of auto repositioning? Prefferably with the indication if items are to close to each other.
  3. Ultimaker support seems to get better lately. I got an answer within 3 days this week on a spareparts support ticket...
  4. chopmeister; Please do start a new thread on this, will follow your progress closely as it seems to be the best option sofar for flex fillaments. You say you changed to a motor driver better equiped for low current, any idea if it would be a problem to use the nema11 on the UM2, looking at its "all in one" electronics?
  5. Interesting... think this will need some massive processing power... Thanks for sharing but maybe better to put stuff like this in the gossip section.
  6. Aha. Should have looked at your ym first... See you work on it for some time now. Understand what it is to have a lack of time sometimes.. if you could find time it would be appreciated if you could share your experence so fare. .. did you already reach good print quality? You also say its rather costly. What are the expensive components? Are the gears so expensive?
  7. Chopmeister; did you share your design & experience with this setup somewhere? I'm very interested to see more of it. Do you still use it?
  8. When you change a spool just NEVER let go of the end of the fillament untill you attached it to the spool. I use these things to clamb the fillament to the side of the spool. I would never use the clambs where you need to attach the fillament end to some other part of filament on the spool.... just to much risk you'll mess up then....
  9. I thought about using a dremel flex shaft for a test with a "paste struder" , it never occured to me it could be used on a "real" extruder... but this seems really brilliant!! I'll be following this.... and probably buy a kit if there would be one.... very insterested if you share your design !! Would like to get a head with an interchangable nozzle on my UM2 anyhow, so this could be the option ....
  10. I did not see that loose fillament holder before, thanks for the tip, will be usefull... I was also thinking to create some sort of "breakout box" on the back of the UM with the 2 feeder motor connectors. Would it be ok to add an "extension cord" of +/- 30 cm on the feeder motor cable ? I would use the original connectors ... (conrad has them).
  11. Back from holiday ... finally published my "Ultimaker2 rail system" as presented on page 33 .... You'll find evererything here: https://www.youmagine.com/designs/ultimaker2-rail-system-u2rs https://www.youmagine.com/designs/compact-low-friction-spool-holder Have not done any serious testing on the best possible position for feeder and spool holder, but the test report published by Bas shows the friction caused by the bowden tube is significant .... optimisation of the spool & feeder location seems very usefull...
  12. Think it can be good to use xt for most parts but I would not use it for parts touching the fillament...like the body.. if you get some wear you'll get particals with a higher melting point than pla in you nozzle potentially causing clogging at lower temps.
  13. No its not from the belts.. only have it at the high temps used for xt. Not abs from the feeder either as i use my own feeder for quite some time already...
  14. I do have an issue with black spots in my print. On longer prints ( 15 hrs or so) i suspect some xt is sticking to the outside of the nozzle and carbonises. On my latest long print i had 3 black blobs in my print.... Anyone know how to prevent this?
  15. In my experience at 70c it sticks good to the glass... as long as your glass is clean. I think its more of an issue compared to pla. Just to be sure wash your glass with some soap. And i usually run it under hot water for some time to make sure all the soap is gone...
  16. Just thinking about the gui. Can imagine that different objects or areas of objects get a different color and the settings that can be set per object get the color of the selected object as background color so you know what your working on. And maybe a "default on" mark to alter settings for all objects... @daid: relax, greatfull for every improvement I get. Already very happy with cura. Is there a public development roadmap for cura? So we dont ask for stuff already somewhere in the planning...
  17. I like the idea of graphical interfacing to make changes a lot. Works also very good in f.e. photoshop (lightroom) but its probably very difficult to realise. I would also love to have the ability to use various infills in a part but would not mind preparing in CAD. Maybe a bit like the use of combining a part for dual head print... although for structural quality in this case the walls would of course need to be printed at once. Maybe a lot easier i would also like to be able to set the main settings like fill/speed etc separately for multiple items i print at the same time. Basically just like you now select an item for scalling or rotation i would like to be able to change all settings per part on the bed.
  18. Like the new start a lot. Big improvement. For me its good the way it is now. Thanks!
  19. If you go keep an eye on the events section... we're probably meeting somewhere in a pub afterwards on saterday...
  20. Alternative to abs you could also use colorfabb xt. Prints easier than abs and has beter heat resistance vs pla.
  21. Hmm just checking. Will it always override minimal layer time? So also when printing at 105% the 10 will become 5 (+ 5%) ???
  22. I asume um is not producing the material they sell (?) anybody an idea who's the original manufacturer ?
  23. Just discovered that file explorer om my new win8 laptop shows previews of stl's. Not sure if win7 wil also do this. Not near my desktop atm. Handy to do a quick check on orientation before you publish anything.
  24. Blizz: I usually buy at conrad or rs-online (rs are the guys that gave us dsm...)
