Hi all,
Just printed and installed the Venkel shroud and as suspected i had the 'temp error' shutdown. reducing fans to 60% stopped that but i wanted max cooling so, apart from the heat shield i also added some ceramic tape around the nozzle. Now i can run the fans at 100% with no problems.
But i'm now thinking will that give me too much cooling?
I tested the UM Robot and this new setup did improve the left ear, but i'm wondering if excessive cooling could cause problems?
ANy thoughts?
Cheers

Thats great - all sorted!
Thanks for help all!

Might be a Mac issue but downloading via RAW tab into browser and then saving gives me either:
A 'web'.STEP
or a .STEP.txt file
neither seem to be valid .step files when i try to convert to .stl via the various online converter platforms?
Must be user error but what am i doing wrong?
-
Forgive my ignorance, but how do i get the .STEP file extracted from the Github page to then be able to load to Designspark Mech and export to .stl?
I cant see an obvious 'download' option and when i right click to 'save' file it only downloads a .html file?
Or
Does anyone have the saved .stl to share?
thanks for help

Never knew that library existed!
So if i wanted to download this file as a dxf - would it be possible?
I want to look at making a new metal cooling duct set up.
-
My bigger disappointment isn't the cancelled dual extruder option - was never a selling point for me anyway, but the fact that the hot end design was compromised for a feature that is no longer even going to be offered!
The cooling fans/cooling ducts are really not the best for single extruder layout, changing slicer does help a bit but UM should now be working on a new metal (free) upgrade to the fans/cooling ducts to get the best from the 'compromised' single extruder design.
I know there are various printable versions out there, but since UM has decided to let a lot of hopeful users down, the least they can do now is to improve that part of the design.. me thinks.
Just reading through previous posts and others have mentioned this also.
Come on Ultimaker, lets all be able to print your little robot with with a decent left ear!

I did yes - as you say, very polite approach and as far as i could tell all legit. MakersN was the site name mentioned.
I did say 'yes' as long as existing copyright/license/usage agreements remain in place.
Interesting ongoing issues i can see here, i obviously want my designs to be available to as wide an audience as possible, but is there any down side to letting 'one and all' access my work?

Thanks for the comments all!
Complex projects that really test 3d modelling and desk top 3d printing technology are a great way to past the time - about 3 months of time, most evenings and quite a few hours when i should have been doing my day job!
But i'm really pleased how it all came out and its been well received globally, lots of blogs, a few interested commissions and not a single legal email from a particular Swiss watch manufacturer!
Would love to see if anyone on this forum creates a version - do keep me posted please.
cheers

I promise i will try to get a YouMagine version uploaded soon!

So the filament has cut right through at the feeder end and a full length stuck in the bowden tube - never heard that happening before - bad luck!
I reckon you're going to have to take off the feeder drive to allow you to then detach the bowden tube at both ends and slide it off to access the length of filament in there?
Once you can grab the filament - do an a 'atomic' nozzle clean to really get things clear.
Good luck

Finally finished my Massive divers watch desk clock project.
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:619550
For Thingiverse release, MB branded but my personal version has correct branding.
I'll create a YouMagine version asap.
Now for a project a little easier to complete...

I too use c4d for all my modelling, and the boolean can cause issues.
But i also run everything via Netfabb and once its been 'fixed' - i never have problems.
I also wouldn't make your geometry 'editable' before exporting - just leave it parametric and export. Fix with netfabb and you should be okay? i know that isn't the correct optimised way to model for 3d printing, but i does work for me.
I am though intrigued why you're having problems. I'd be happy to look at your c4d file to see if i can see the problem areas if you like?.
Let me know
cheers

If it carries on printing nicely, i'm not going to touch a thing!!

All very strange or maybe not!
So i performed yet another 'Atomic method' nozzle cleaning last night, (i'd done this a couple of times before without success) but maybe the difference with this one was that it produced a perfectly formed 'clean cone' result. I also slid a guitar E string wire up the nozzle from the bottom for good measure.
I also updated the firmware and went back to Cura 14.07
Printed without problem! No under extrusion, no skipping motor, all was back to normal.
I'm still not totally happy with the slicing of Cura, surface blobs and Z scaring. But i'll take those anyway to not being able to print!
Hopefully it won't let me down tonight... fingers crossed!
Cheers

Yep, faberdashery is great and no i check it doesnt get tangled.
Tried hotter, cooler, no difference.
Is there a video/ thread to show how to remove the teflon collar?
It happens on all prints, apart from very small one. My 20mm test cube seems to print okay.

Hi moderator,
Further onfo fyi...
Nozzle was cleaned using the atomic method.
I have used that method before with complete success, but this issue doesnt seem to be a nozzle clog. Filament loads correctly and the print/ purge start of the print is good.
Filament brand is Faberdashery, a brand i use exclusively and has never given any problems. Size and quality is alway consistent
I slice with Cura, usually standard settings.
Havent checked the teflon collar, that does seem to be a possible area of issue. However, I would be surprised to find any wear/ distortion in that, the printer is only 3 months old and i only print PLA at 205c max. But it may be the cause.
I havent checked if the firmware is latest, could that be an issue?
I havent visually checked the 3rd fan is working, although it does sound as though it is?
As i mentioned, this is an issue that has appeared very recently almost from one print to the next. Models that my printer was printing perfectly, now always airprint.
The print starts fine, but well into the print the under extrusion starts and always ends in the extruder blocked.
With my limited experience of FFF printers, it does appear to be heat creap affecting the filament, but i cant think what would cause such a sudden major change?
I have a support ticket with the company i purchased the printer from, iMakrUK.
I will try to resolve this myself, otherwise, hopefully those guys can fix the issue.
Please let me know your thoughts

Hi original poster,
Did you ever solve your problem?
I fear that after 3 months of perfect, no problem printing, i seem to be having the exact same problem as you?
My setup is UM2, PLA, Cura slicing - nothing fancy.
Nozzle seems fine and like you, only starts to 'motor skip' well into the print.
I'm stumped?
Any updates please let me know
Cheers

I too have same issues with my UM 2 - prints great at 0.1/0.06 but at 0.2 i have issues similar to yours?
i've tried to find a solution - lower speed, retraction, acceleration, try new slicer (you are using Cura yes?).
I had a slight improvement going back to an older version of Cura, but so far i have not been able to eliminate them completely. I could be wrong but it seems Cura has slicing issues with its 0.2 settings - others have mentioned this also - but i'd love to be proved wrong?
If you do find a solution please let us know

Colors were done in 8 steps, needed to do dark blue and purple in two steps due to limitations in scad, of about 10 minutes on average, single 0.2mm layer including filament change and removal of alignment border. The white back took about 45 minutes for two 0.3mm layers.
Edit: and a wait of 16 hours for the missing light blue filament to arrive.
How do you do multi coloured prints?
Wasn't aware there was an option to change filament mid print?
-
do these events ever happen in London UK?
-
Yep, i thought loose belts too - still need to check those.
If they are all tight, i'll look at model geometry and software settings.
I use CinemaC4D to model and i'll try reducing the poly count around the curves.
i'll also test various reduced speeds
cheers

hi all,
just recently bought my UM2 and whilst i'm impressed with default 01/.06 profiles, the 0.2 profiles doesn't give me the finish i'd expect - very irregular layering, especially around cylinder and curves?
Any settings in expert to help get those layers more even and regular?
I'm sure its an easy fix?
any pointers much appreciated
cheers

That would be fab, just spent an hour last night spooling a 100mtre of bling bling gold PITA!
They did say spooled filament would be available soon when i spoke to them last month...

i'd be interested in that nozzle change vid!
Infill issues

Hi all,
Another quick question if i may...
Using the latest Cura but sure i have this issue on previous versions.
Printing "quick print; Fast setting. PLA.
The infill looks very under extruded and not even.
Did a quick forum search but nothing conclusive and i'm sure theres a quick solution for this?
Any thoughts
Cheers
