Just a few hours left and they are only 3k short of producing 3mm filamentas a stretch goal! If anyone was on the fence, now would be a good time to pledge.
-
The CX5 Kickstarter is live now.
If they hit the 100k pledge window they will be producing a 3mm version of the material. Currently it's just 1.75mm

I'm really impressed with how well it works. I have not tried the UM2+ feeder as I already had the Bondtech one.
-
Just a follow up for anyone interested. Martin from Bondtech replied to me via e-mail that evening with a new firmware for my printer. It has been printing like a champ ever since!

Ok, I just did a quick test with the UM2+ firmware by running through the material change option.
My Bondtech feeder is now going is reverse. Would changing the E-steps to a negative number be an easy way to reverse the feeder direction? So instead of setting my E-Steps to M92 E492.45
I could save it as
M92 E-492.45?

I've upgraded my UM2 to a UM2+ with the upgrade kit but I kept my Bondtech extruder instead of using the new feeder. I went ahead and updated the firmware to UM2+ like the instructions said and then realised that on my UM2 I had installed a custom firmware form Bondtech.
Is there a firmware from Bondtech for the UM2+? Or just use the UM2 firmware that is on their site?
I'm itching to start printing but don't want to start until I get that sorted out.
Thanks in advance!

I use Zbrush for organic sculpting but use Modo for all other 3d tasks. www.luxology.com
There is a cheap indie version you can buy on steam that has most of the functionality of the full program.
One ofor the best tools inside of Modo is a plug-in called meshfusion. A subdivision modeling boolean tool that is editable and spits out clean watertight meshes. Watch the video to see it in action.

Like the title says, I'm getting weird black lines through my prints at random layers.
I put a fresh nozzle on and a new Teflon isolator but I still got a line on my print.
Any ideas? I've got a 3dsolex i2k insulator installed, could it be that degrading or something? I'm also using a Bondtech QR extruder instead of stock. Filament is pretty new pla from Push Plastics.

I bought 2.85 from gr5 store. I've had it on my printer for at least 200 hrs by now. No problems yet.
You could also order from http://fbrc8.com/ they are the official us assembly and support site.
I've ordered from both companies and services have been great with both.

I really like esun grey pla. I usually buy from toybuilder labs as they check each spool before selling to a customer. I've yet to have a bad roll. Price is decent at about $30 a spool. They also go under the name prototype supply on amazon and do free prime shipping.
The longest print I've done with it was over 50 hrs no problem.

Looks great. Unfortunately I just bought a bondtech extruder (which I really like) so I'll probably hold off until I can get just the print head by itself.

Thanks Robert. Yep, that's how i realized I was missing one.
I assume adding one to an older um2 (mine was bought Nov 2014) would be a good thing? Or at least, not hurt anything.
Anyone know the size of the one used, or where I could buy one? Thanks.
-
Is the UM2 supposed to come with a ferrite core? I'm following the installation instructions for my new bondtech extruder and it mentions one. After removing the cover I notice mine didn't have one in the stepper cables.

I just bought one of the Ultimaker 2 kits. Should be here next week. Looking forward to trying it out!

On my printrbot I have to tweak the firmware after a nozzle change allthough it has auto leveling. This takes more time than turning some screws. But may be the printrbot leveling is just not intelligent enough?
I'm glad I'm not the only one who found this to be annoying. I ended up selling my printrbot and the auto leveling was definitely one of the reasons.

A teaser for a new filament yet to be released, but could be very cool. I've used CX5 for fixing a broken 3d print before and it worked out great!

I hope it works well with the new geared feeder!

Nice interview. Must start saving all of my pennies now

Just a quick thanks to everyone who replied. I'm back up and printing and things are looking fantastic!
Here is my first test with a .25mm nozzle on my Olsson block. I added the cooling duct but have yet to actually solder the new fan into place. My UM2 is in the garage so noise isn't really an issue. I've got it as a backup for now.

When I have a print which finished halfway through the night, in the morning I can usually just get it off the bed like it was never attached..
Same here. My problem is waiting that long.... I am so impatient!
I should have bought a second glass build plate when I bought the UM2.
Also, taking the glass off and on still requires me to "wobble" the build platform more than I would like. I am afraid that it will come out of level. I might actually use the dreaded binder clips to make swapping the glass easier.
-
Yeah that should make a big difference. I bought mine online, so no local support. I've seen great prints from my printrbot. In my case I don't know if I need it anymore now that I've got an olsson block installed on my UM2.

I've had a printrbot metal simple since July and I've got a UM2.
The printrbot is nice because everything is exposed and easy to replace. That being said I've only had it working great (after quite a bit of tuning) for a few weeks before my belts broke. Since then I've had extrusion problems that I have not been able to solve.
I also tried their new all metal hot end but sent two of them back because of QA problems with them.
On the other hand my UM2 printed great from the moment I first turned it on.

Welcome to Seattle! I have found filament at Fry's but it was a brand identity never heard of. I mostly stick to using www.matterhackers.com they are in California but shipping is pretty fast. They carry Colorfabb and Ultimaker filaments.
