  1. so normally when I insert an SD card into my computer cura automatically detects it and i can upload my gcode to it just by clicking the upload to SD card. but now when i click it nothing happens at all. and i have to switch to "save file" and manually select where i want it to save. is there a way to fix this?
  2. So I noticed in cura 2.6.2 there is a nozzle diameter setting under the machine settings. although when I change it, it doesn't actually do anything. When I go back into the machine settings it just reverts back to whatever value is set in the slicer settings. what is the purpose of this setting under the machine settings?
  3. so i changed out the relay, and it didn't solve the problem. luckily doing this didnt make anything worse though. so I'm back to square one.
  4. well I also bought a 4 relay arduino module, im removing the printer board now to install the new relay, hopefully it works
  5. my god $350 USD? that's insane. is that the normal price for it? at that point id rather try and just get it running on a standard cheap 3d printer board
  6. so i noticed niether ultimaker or any of their distributors i could find sell the UM2 control board. where is a good place to get one?
  7. yes id love to see some pictures. im sure we can fix it
  8. so lately every so often one of our UM2's gets a "temp sensor bed" error. ive checked the connections and they seem fine. and after a couple restarts the error stops happening for awhile One thing i noticed though is that if it does happen (which is maybe every 10 prints or so) it always happens at the exact same point. It happens when the bed is rising from its home position at the start of a print. the bed rises about 1/3 of the way then there is a noticable judder that happens which is exactly when the temp error triggers. the bed continues rising to the nozzle and the nozzle purges as normal, but when it moves to the print start position it halts from the error. any help?
  9. so I've noticed that sometimes when i start a print it will go to purge, perform the purge. and then just stop and do nothing. if i cancel the print at start it again the same thing will keep happening. the only way to stop it is to turn the machine off and on again, then the issue goes away. this issue only happens on maybe 5% of prints that the machine does so its not very common, but it is a weird issue that i dont understand.
  10. so we have a large format FDM printer that is 30 feet long. I noticed while using cura to do some slicing for it that it can not zoom out far enough for us to actually fully see parts that are layed out in it. How hard would it be to allow cura to zoom out further? I would love to use cura on our machine but we might not be able to because of this issue.
  11. so does the motion system the ultimaker uses have a name?
  12. so after installing the E3D UM2 upgrade ive noticed that while the part position in the slicer is centered, once it starts printing the part is shifted to the right on the buildplate. is there some setting that can remedy this? im trying to print a part that takes up almost the entire build area and even though i know it will fit, the printer cancels itself and says it is trying to print outside of the build area even though it has lots of room and is not near the edge at all
  13. ya you dont actually need to squash the first layer, tune the bed while its printing the skirt for the lightest squish you can get and it should be uniform. we do buildplates of 100 spinner caps on our UM2 and there is no squish on the outer first layer of them because ive lowered the bed just a hair while the skirt prints.
  14. set the combing to "no skin" and it will retract over the print surface, but not internally (which is preferred)
  15. no i uploaded the firmware, the printer restarted, then i went and checked the retraction settings and they hadnt changed
  16. so ive been printing a bunch of spinners lately and am printing 4 on a buildplate, using the "print 1 at a time" setting. I've noticed that when it finishes 1 and then retracts and moves to the position of the next spinner, there is no extrusion for almost the entire skirt and it just barely manages to start extruding when the skirt is finished and the print starts. i think it might not be priming as far as it is retracting when it is set to "print 1 at a time"
  17. so i changed that value to 60 and uploaded the firmware directly from the arduino IDE and nothing changed, it is still capped at 20. I could not find any other value in the configuration.h file that could possibly change this
  18. there was no supplied profile, all i did was click "add new machine" then "add custom fdm" and give it a name. same thing ive done with all of our other machines and none other than this one have had issues
  19. so we have a lot of printers in our shop and we use cura on all of them, ever since cura 2.4 came out one of our printers (a bigbox) continually has its profile deleted, forcing me to go in and setup a new printer. pretty much all of our printers use a custom profile so i dont understand why it always singles out our bigbox
  20. so i was doing some printing on one of our printers that hasnt been used since cura 2.4 came out, on 2.3 it was fine but is now encountering issues with 2.4 one of which is that when using one of the 3 standard profiles, it sets a buildplate tempurature of 60 degrees even though the heated buildplate option is turned off in the machine settings. so even though the option to set a buildplate temp doesnt exist in the options, it still sets it to 60 degrees in the gcode, which causes a heater error.
  21. so we have a printer we do a lot of vases on which was using cura 2.3 and had no problems with it. recently started using cura 2.4 on it and now when we do a spiralized vase on it it does a z hop at each new layer, which i entirely dont understand. retraction is turned off, retract on layer change is turned off, and z hop is turned off, yet it still does it. oh and to make it even weirder, it z hops backwards......so it actually pushes the buildplate up into the hotend....wtf?
  22. Hi I encountered a bug when performing the E3D extrusion mod to my UM2. after getting everything installed and doing all the firmware changes, i noticed that now the retraction settings in the printer cap the retraction speed at 20mm/s. even though it automatically sets it to 25 mm/s. if i click and enter the function to change it in the printer, it automatically drops it to 20mm/s and prevents me from setting it any higher. just wondering where in the firmware i can find that setting so i can change it?
  23. So I'm printing this part for one of our projects and because of the angles on it the "top layers" value is generating paths where they dont need to be. I understand why it is putting those paths there but it would be nice if you could set the angle at which it decides to generate the top layers. this part is 1 single wall and hollow, so the small paths it is generating because of the top layers cause heat buildup which causes noticeable defects in the print.
