  1. Based on the "A pencil, and owl, a nail, several leaves and a classic bird house." sketch from StudioSpass. I think it would be really cool to have a steam punk/ robotic bird house along with this robot owl and gear leaves. It would also be fun to incorporate the Ultimaker robot in the house... maybe fending off the evil owl? Or greeting him at the door with a delicious platter of nuts and bolts... and nails. The pencil could be the little stick that the birds land on. It would be cool to model out a techno tree and branches for this all to sit on. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
  2. Based on the StudioSpass pdf document. "Wheels in different sizes to create little cars from branches." The idea being that we print out the wheels and the other vehicle parts and clip them onto small branches. These designs turn your average every day sticks into lean, mean, racing machines! Is it safe to assume that all these vehicles are stick shift?....... sorry, I couldn't help it.
  3. I really like your characters! The shapes are very bold, and will probably print very well. They all have really strong silhouettes and are very appealing, in a gross kind of way I totally mean that as a complement though! I think it's really funny where you placed some of the details on the beaver (the sore on the corner of his mouth). Maybe you could make some detachable drool for him as well. It looks like you had a lot of fun working on these. Hope I don't come off as a jerk... I really do like what you are creating! Looking forward to more
  4. I like that you are incorporating functionality into your designs!
  5. That is an interesting point! Something that I have been keeping in mind You would be surprised about how much detail can come across in an FDM printer... especially with a printer as high quality as an Ultimaker I think it's better to have the detail then back it down if needed. Thanks for the feedback guys!
  6. I think this might be the final image that I submit for the space theme, but not sure yet.... Looks like the little conflict between the Astronaut and the Space Slugs turned out to be a big misunderstanding... lol I'll see if I have time to work on any of the other themes between today and the 14th. @ SandervG: Do you want us to submit our final images using a special format or resolution? How would you like us to include our additional portfolio work for consideration? Thanks for your feedback!
  7. Thanks ggalisky! I've been a creating models for 3d printing for the past several years now, I have been modeling and animating for about 7 years. I can't show a lot of my professional work, but thanks for checking out what I do have on my blog! I like how you have the alien elements ( the meteor and the UFO) faceted, and the man made elements ( the rocket and satellite) look more machined. It helps give some contrast between the two.
  8. Thanks Sebastian! I am planning on doing as much as I can within the next couple days, but I will include a link to my portfolio as well, to support my submissions here on the forum. From how I understand the first phase requirements, Ultimaker is looking for "sketches" of what we intend to do in the second phase of the competition. I intend to put in a lot more detail and character in the models the second phase if I make it that far.
  9. Here is where I am at right now with my submission. I thought it would be fun to explore the space theme that StudioSpass included in their pdf document. The elements in this image are still in the early sketchy/ idea phase (lot's more detail and story elements to come). I wanted to get as much down as quickly as possible in my 3d software. I still need to include the other elements (U.F.O., meteor, satellite, and planet) in the little narrative...still working on those. My goal is to tell a story that juxtaposes old technology with new technology, rapid prototyping with other slower methods (that's why the aliens are slugs right now). Words that I'm trying to keep in mind while designing are Fun, Whimsical, and Kid Friendly. The idea is that the astronaut is exploring new worlds. A pretty common theme, but I think appropriate for the 3d printing community. We are all "exploring" and discovering new ways to create with this relatively new technology (3d printing). While I was sculpting these little character, I thought it would be so cool if we could make a little stop motion animation with them at some point in the future! I would love to get everyone's feedback! Thanks!
  10. How about posting any progress pictures of our submissions? Or would you like everything we create all one time on the 14th?
  11. From how the original post reads, it looks like the ultimate goal is to have real 3d printed objects in front of and around Ultimaker's new 3d printers. They want to showcase the quality of prints from the new printers and the skill of the artist in their community. They have already been working with a creative agency (StudioSpass) to come up with a promotional campaign. Within this campaign will be 8 "hero shots"... "Ultimaker will use those files during photoshoots for online content. " I could create some nicely lit and composed renders during the second and third phase of the competition though
  12. lol.... it seems like we are all asking the same question in different ways Can't hurt to get more clarity in a design contest though!
  13. Sounds like an awesome opportunity to get your artwork featured! I am really excited that Ultimaker places such a high value on original artwork. I'm looking forward to submitting my ideas! From what I understand the Creative Brief to be: Ultimaker is requesting unique and original 3d print ready artwork centered around 8 themes (already created by StudioSpass) such as "An U.F.O., a large rocket, a meteor, a satellite and a planet." Ultimaker wants to tell a compelling story with each of the 8 3d printed themes/scenes. The 8 themes will be printed by Ulitmaker and photographed by StudioSpass. Please let me know if I understand correctly Thanks so much!
