  1. Instead of File->Open you could try dropping the file on the Cura window. This bypasses the file dialog, which seems to be the cause of the crash according to @nallath. Not a solution, but a workaround.

this is working as a temp solution.

I'm wondering what the actual cause is though. It crashes the same way if I try load a material profile etc.

  2. It was not created by me. I don't believe it's a corrupt stl, as I am able to get it to open after multiple attempts of it failing/ crashing the app.  If I open another STL first , that one is sometimes successful other times fails as well.  I can't seem to find a pattern to it.

Additionally, every time I go to File/ Open Files ... the Open files window appears but then  Cura will crash a few seconds later, even if I do not select any file.

    thoughts?

  3. I have an stl file that contains numerous parts.

I need to split this stl file into seperate stl's or parts to be able to print them each individually.

I thought you used to be able to right click and select split object?

in Cura 2.6.2 I do not have that option when right clicking on the stl?

Thanks for any help on this... hopefully i'm just missing something easy here.

  4. Currently using cura version 15.01

Have not tried slicing with any other version... ran the stl through netfab.

I may try upgrading the latest version of cura.

I also cut the stl so I can print just part of the plate and the vertical "tower" for testing.

would changing the shell thickness possibly fix this?

If i look at layer view there doesnt seem to be anything strange at those layers with the movements of the head.

Will work on getting a video posted during the print of those troublesome spots.

  5. Yes both side fans are running at 100% after the first couple layers, and verified working.

I've re-leveled the bed a few times and attempted additional repeats of the print with the same results.

I will try printing at the 200 C and slowing the speed down next. I was hoping to get away with the 50mms print speed as everything else prints nicely with this model.

Yes the model is mine, I will try chamfering to see if it makes a difference.

Wall thickness is .8mm do you think increasing the wall thickness would help with the problem areas? If so what thickness would you suggest attempting?

Thanks for the input guy's this is driving me nuts!

  6. I'm trying to figure out why on the vertical portion of this print I am getting a portion of the edge that is not smooth. I do not believe it's the STL because when I rotate the object and then print it in a different direction the issue changes sides.

Thanks for any suggestions the help is greatly appreciated.

  7. I have a um2 currently and was going to purchase a um2 extended as well as I thought the x and y axis were also going to be larger. My question at this point since the dual extrusion is not going to happen with these printers is what is actually going to be different other then z axis height? Will there be an improved feeder with the release of the um2 extended ? Any information anyone can provide on the specs and differences is greatly appreciated.

  8. I've been using ultimaker pla filament since I got my um2 a month ago. I've been suffering with under extrusion problems.

I just got some reels of colorfabbs pla/pha filament and wow is it amazing. Quality of prints has drastically increased and I haven't experienced under extrusion with it yet.

Time will tell but all in all .. a noticeable step up in quality and actually less expensive for me.

  9. Hey everyone,

Having a strange scenario whenever i change filament in a UM2

After the filament ejects there is a super fine strand of filament left in the bowden tube and still attached to the end of the 2.85mm end of the filament.

I can carefully pull on this for what seems like it is much longer then actual length of the bowden tube.

Is this an indicator of a bad coupler or other part?

Any ideas what would cause this or is this completely normal? I don't remember this happening when the printer was brand new.

The printer itself is only a couple months old now and I've only printed with PLA.

I'm also suffering from under extrusion issues.

Thanks for everyone's time it's greatly appreciated!

    -Mike
