Bully Trophy from Bullseye
By cloakfiend in 3D Prints
Just a mock up of a Bullseye trophy minus the dart, only really found two pictures on the internet of it so but am fairly happy with it as it was just for fun. Fixing the messed up print on the other hand was not fun. I am very stubborn though, but next time I'm just gonna print the damn thing again!
There was a hole in the mouth so when i acetoned it, it split because it got inside! the legs did not split. I also forgot to add the button in the splitter!! Oh well ill add them in the next one.
Loads of pics to see the madness I went through just to finish it!

British Bully split test
By cloakfiend in 3D Prints
Another bully sculpt, now I have American, British and French... was experimenting with zero retractions speed increases and the placements of the slice and how well they stuck together after. Doing a tutorial for the glueing, acetoning, filler and finishing for this. part one is done.
model available now for download.

Tigris of Gaul
By cloakfiend in 3D Prints
Sorry for the lame photo, but I demolished this one experimenting on it a few hours later, lol. Obviously from the Gladiator movie, not perfect but you get the drift. Might do a moving version, if i have time, but this one is all one print, no gluing or construction.

Alien face (failed print)
By cloakfiend in 3D Prints
This is an Alien face that printed kinda wrong for some weird reason, no acetone treatment yet, but i was really happy with the details especially the teeth. Should look great after a acetone bath!

My first 123D work mate in a copper coating, second attempt.
By cloakfiend in 3D Prints
No patina this time round, just a black wash and very lightly sanded down on the original varnish and copper mix i made. no fancy paints here. Next text will be with fancy paints, but to tell you the truth i dont think they will look much better. Well happy with this effect. Even though it looks more bronze than copper.
I also went kinda heavy with the coating as i did no post processing what so ever, just undercoat spray for the paint to stick on, no acetone or sanding at all. While printing it suffered from jammed filament on the roll syndrome so skipped a few layers printing nothing, never again since. I don't print off the roll anymore ever.

Copper Patina first test run...
By cloakfiend in 3D Prints
Just polished up the old model with wire wool to reveal the copper surface then gave it a spray with tiffanys patina green, and left it for about an hour and got this, should look even more intense after 6hrs apparently.
went a bit too hard on the old sanding but its hard when you want the shine and only have a few micro meters of paint to play with and its my first attempt so i hope i get better. unless you make a cast or use a tougher coating (which im working on..) its gonna be hard to sand/buff/polish coatings of DIY metal paint. The exotic paints use hardener and catalysts so im pretty sure they'll work better/easier?
Still fun, and i love distressed looks so im happy that i don't need to make casts for everything. which would take up even more of my time.

My mate coated in copper varnish.
By cloakfiend in 3D Prints
copper varnish mix coating applied. look kinda like clay!!
Was very poor quality print so the thick layer masks it quite nicely. have loads more to do but experimenting on the one with most lines in them.

Metal coating tests gone wrong but look interesting anyway.
By cloakfiend in 3D Prints
Iron and Copper tests, with only one coat and no processing, i.e. painted and left no post work on the coatings. will play with washes and drybrushing later. copper looks very much like clay!! for those interested.

No sanding acetone PLA paint test
By cloakfiend in 3D Prints
Here is a piece (not modelled) not sanded at all, half dipped in acetone for 25secs and then sprayed with undercoat primer, and then with gold paint. I think it illustrates how nicely acetone smooths Ultimaker Blue PLA, shame it is apparently no longer available. I still have a bit thank god, and some green which also appears unavailable. I wonder if the new UM BLue available is just as good chemically to react to acetone as the old one that came with the printer. If not thats a VERY big shame.
Just thought i would post this in case people wonder how the surface of PLA can easily be smoothed whilst still keeping most detail unlike ABS. A step that is essential if you plan on painting your creations and do not want the model covered in distracting print lines.
You can do this with color-fabb PLA as well but it takes longer and does not wipe as many lines away.

Copper Powder Prototypes
By cloakfiend in 3D Prints
My first face done with catch123, i thought id try out some coating experiments. The clay model had no post work at all and the darker one was acetone smoothed before priming. Both blue UM PLA printed at .08mm clay look and .1mm copper look.

Groovy hand mk2
By cloakfiend in 3D Prints
A hollowed out revised version of the groovy hand now mk2 with details removed to see what it could look like, almost finished the enable version which is basically just new fingers and a revised raptor reloaded main hand. Making cool working hands with fingers and even the prosthetic ones is very time consuming and difficult due to all the joins and width limitations i'm learning a lot of things on the mechanical side of things which is interesting, I had to compromise a lot compared to simple sculpts. The pinky is overlapping in this print but I threw a patina on it as it makes it look older and cooler in my opinion.
Another Colorfabb Dutch Orange for those interested. printed with 0.8 shell which is my new norm compared to 1.2, and hollow with supports. pics above.

Iron Budda with rust patina.
By cloakfiend in 3D Prints
Bit too much rust patina on this one and it even started to shine, lol so applied a green patina, but as it was an iron/varnish mix and not copper/varnish it just went rusty not green/blue.Still looks cool, and just adding more are more patina makes it cooler by the day. Next time i will selectively add the patina rather than just dousing the entire thing in it.

American Bully
By cloakfiend in 3D Prints
A test sculpt of my friends dog.... still trying to get my UM2 back to spec. Didnt realise the 35W heater needed a PID alteration or something, but hopefully I'll have that sorted and will be back to making near flawless prints. No closeups here because they are not worthy of closeups.
