  2. British Bully split test

Another bully sculpt, now I have American, British and French... was experimenting with zero retractions speed increases and the placements of the slice and how well they stuck together after. Doing a tutorial for the glueing, acetoning, filler and finishing for this. part one is done.
    model available now for download.

  3. Another Thing

Kmanstudios mentioned one of my last prints reminded him of the head from the 'The Thing' with the tentacles so as a result of not getting it out of my head I did a quick sculpt and ended up with this, have no idea why the two sides didn't join up correctly, but I admit i didn't pay attention to the settings when i did it and may have got the scale wrong when printing it as well. I guess I need to pay more attention when cutting up objects, but its good practice for joining two parts in a way to avoid seeing the seam!

  4. Statue Head

Here is a rough sketch of a statue, i haven't finished it but was curious how my new prints held up to acetone on my ob 0.4 nozzle @ 0.6 setup and am glad to see it didn't split.

  6. Laberns shroud in copper for UM2

just a test to see if the plate is enough to stop any warping, my early tests showed it should work, but im not sure if the fact its copper and conducts heat well will be an issue that effects the print? might be better might be worse, its very light so that is a plus!
the coat is not ideal and imperfect due to its size, but as an experiment......ill allow it.

  9. Distressed copper plate test

My first attempt at copper plating. i found the shiny copper just way too cheap looking so i had to distress it. looks like cheap foil otherwise in my opinion.

  14. Metal coating tests gone wrong but look interesting anyway.

Iron and Copper tests, with only one coat and no processing, i.e. painted and left no post work on the coatings. will play with washes and drybrushing later. copper looks very much like clay!! for those interested.

  18. No sanding acetone PLA paint test

Here is a piece (not modelled) not sanded at all, half dipped in acetone for 25secs and then sprayed with undercoat primer, and then with gold paint. I think it illustrates how nicely acetone smooths Ultimaker Blue PLA, shame it is apparently no longer available. I still have a bit thank god, and some green which also appears unavailable. I wonder if the new UM BLue available is just as good chemically to react to acetone as the old one that came with the printer. If not thats a VERY big shame.
Just thought i would post this in case people wonder how the surface of PLA can easily be smoothed whilst still keeping most detail unlike ABS. A step that is essential if you plan on painting your creations and do not want the model covered in distracting print lines.
You can do this with color-fabb PLA as well but it takes longer and does not wipe as many lines away.

  19. My first 123D work mate in a copper coating, second attempt.

No patina this time round, just a black wash and very lightly sanded down on the original varnish and copper mix i made. no fancy paints here. Next text will be with fancy paints, but to tell you the truth i dont think they will look much better. Well happy with this effect. Even though it looks more bronze than copper.
I also went kinda heavy with the coating as i did no post processing what so ever, just undercoat spray for the paint to stick on, no acetone or sanding at all. While printing it suffered from jammed filament on the roll syndrome so skipped a few layers printing nothing, never again since. I don't print off the roll anymore ever.

  20. Iron Budda with rust patina.

Bit too much rust patina on this one and it even started to shine, lol so applied a green patina, but as it was an iron/varnish mix and not copper/varnish it just went rusty not green/blue.Still looks cool, and just adding more are more patina makes it cooler by the day. Next time i will selectively add the patina rather than just dousing the entire thing in it.

  21. First attempt at gold leaf coating

First time ever with gold leaf, and found it a bit hard to get in the tiny gaps and holes that seem to crop up  lot. Maybe not enough glue. Would be good for statues or other smooth objects.

  22. Copper Patina first test run...

Just polished up the old model with wire wool to reveal the copper surface then gave it a spray with tiffanys patina green, and left it for about an hour and got this, should look even more intense after 6hrs apparently.
went a bit too hard on the old sanding but its hard when you want the shine and only have a few micro meters of paint to play with and its my first attempt so i hope i get better. unless you make a cast or use a tougher coating (which im working on..) its gonna be hard to sand/buff/polish coatings of DIY metal paint. The exotic paints use hardener and catalysts so im pretty sure they'll work better/easier?
Still fun, and i love distressed looks so im happy that i don't need to make casts for everything. which would take up even more of my time.

  25. My mate coated in copper varnish.

copper varnish mix coating applied. look kinda like clay!!
Was very poor quality print so the thick layer masks it quite nicely. have loads more to do but experimenting on the one with most lines in them.
