It's been a while, but I did find the code change I've made back then: https://github.com/smurn/Ultimaker2Marlin/commit/425f89ecc549e8feb6db6349525146e957f7d45f The firmware has changed since then, of course, but maybe this still useful. Those were the only changes I've made, and the printer has been working just fine the last two years.

It's alive! That was indeed all it took. Works like a charm again. Puhh, I already saw several weeks without a printer and quite a bill coming towards me...

Thanks neotko, I'll try that this evening and report back. Good idea to verify the pin numbers with the schematic. I just did that. As expected, the pin numbers in the header file are correct.

My UM2 is not happy :( I've managed to fry the stepper driver for the Y-Axis. Pretty clear case, the PCB is charred where the magic smoke escaped from the chip. There is an unused axis for a second extruder (E2) on the board... I've quickly looked at the code, It looks like I could just swap the STEP_PIN, DIR_PIN, and ENABLE_PIN entries in pins.h for MOTHERBOARD==72 (STOP_PIN should probably remain the same, I guess thats the end-switch). I'd rather not use a custom compiled firmware, but its cheaper than a replacement board. I'd appreciate if someone more familiar with Marlin could tell me if there is something else I should do, or if this this a stupid idea for some reason. Thanks, Stefan

The estimate on the display is utterly useless, IMHO. Its not that it is off by a few %, it is often off by factors. If you happen to have the "tune" menu open for a while it gets even more confused. I had <1h prints that were estimated to take days. This does not effect the actual printing time, its just that the displayed number is a joke. Go by cura's estimate, which is quite accurate. @ultimaker: How about this idea: Have cura put the reminding time into the g-code at regular intervals, like once every minute. The firmware could read it out and just count-down from there, no need for firmware-side estimation at all.

Hi Gregor, Many thanks! I should have mentioned that I have 750g spools from the UM shop. Following the reference from your blog, I've found a different, but similar spool for 750g with an empty weight of 220g. (link). Still, of someone happens to have an empty 750g spool from UM around, that would be great.

I'm planning for my first multi-day print. I'd like to weight my spools and subtract the empty weight to find out which one still has enough material on it. If someone has an empty spool at hand and could weight it for me, that would be awesome! Edit: Spools are the 750g ones from the Ultimaker shop. Many thanks, Stefan
