I am a retired research scientist. Formerly Director of 'Alta Bioscience', a University of Birmingham commercial laboratory. Currently, consultant to a Zellecta Ltd, a spin out from the University of Birmingham Medical School, designing and building automated instruments for the isolation of specific white blood cells. I am using the UM2 to make the components for the instruments. I use Google 'Sketchup' for the 3D modelling, followed by 'Cura' as the slicer. Started out using ABS, as it was the ideal material for the project but after countless failures due to warping, switched to PLA and had zero fails. Currently the biggest problem is finishing the prints to a suitable standard. A centrifugal disc finisher seems to most promising approach.
