  1. Collection of Prints in Various Materials

One for each of the distinct materials that I have in my filament locker. Done at 150 micron resolution but for the Flexible Fox (300 micron) and the Fat Layered Fox (400 micron). There was an NGEN Fox in Black but he got thrown away!

  2. Simple, but Illustrative, Ultimaker 3 Print

This is a customer print that while simple does a nice job of illustrating what the UM3 is capable of printing. Note the undersides of the print where the support material had been printed...it is as smooth as if it had been printed on glass.

  3. Slavik's Low Poly Fox in Copperfill

First piece that I have done using Copperfill and still not sure how to best finish it. Used a Dremel with a brass brush at low speed then a polishing disk also at low speed. The process seems to work though it actually seems to highlight the layers!

  4. Print using Colorfab XT-CF20 (Carbon Fibre)

This was a part printed for a 3D Hubs customer.  XT-CF20 can be particular but I really like the look of it and have used in for things where that look is as important as any strength advantage. The second image is of a calibration object printed with the same profile as used for the first model.
My technique for printing XT-CF20 is to print it hot at 250c for good layer bonding, on a very clean and hot build platform 80c, prepared with hair spray or 3DLAC, with cooling at 100% after the first layer, using a 500 micron steel nozzle, and SLOWLY at 22-24mm/s.

  5. Captive Christmas Tree

Demo print for my Ultimaker 3 that I can hang on our Christmas Tree. This is a small object and I would love to have a 250 micron print core! Of course it would also have helped if I had gone higher resolution.

  6. Ultimaker 3 (and 2+) Test Prints

As time allows I am doing some test prints on my new Ultimaker 3 using various materials. I am also doing some of the same tests on a two year old Ultimaker 2, recently promoted to a 2+, for comparison purposes. See my blog for the rest of the images and commentary.

  7. First print from new Ultimaker 3

This is my first print from a brand new Ultimaker 3 printer.  As in the very first thing after I unboxed it and calibrated it!  The model was printed in PLA with PVA support using the High Quality setting in Cura (60 micron resolution). The printer worked flawlessly.
Note that the model is not my work but is part of an extensive collection of 1:100 designs and is available on Thingiverse.

  8. Singing Serpent

This is so not my design but it looks cool and prints really well! I am going to try painting it next. This is a popular model from Thingiverse with this version done in ColorFabb NGEN at 70% of the models normal size. The prints that you see are 100mm tall.
There are two because I broke the wing on one. The second was printed slightly hotter to help improve strength.

  9. N-Scale (1:160) Bascule Style Draw Bridge Model

A functioning draw bridge in N-Scale (1:160) in the style of a Bascule type. This is a kit that consists of the bridge portion and the lift mechanism. This is a bit of a torture test for a printer.

  11. 1:100 Scale Model of a German Field Wagon

The wagon is a re-creation of a German Field Wagon from World War II.   I think that it is pretty close to a true scale representation.  It is printed as a kit in parts using a 250 micron nozzle for some of the fine details. The horses and the people are castings.
I really wish that I could claim to have built the diorama that is starring my wagon but, alas, I can most assuredly not!
This diorama was built by Bill, the Scenic Doctor, who is a "Yoda" of model building as near as I can tell. He has been modeling for 40 years and has a whole wealth of experience in all types of models. He also casts in resins for models that are not available otherwise. Buildings, trees and scenery are what he does best as for a few years he worked with the biggest modeling company in Scotland.
Please enjoy the photos above and take a look at some of Bill's other work on his website.
