  2. Finally got around to trying out the 1.0mm nozzle(Olsson block etc). It's pretty silly looking, and I see why it's nicknamed the toothpaste nozzle Handy for super quick low resolution prints though. 0.8mm layer height 230c printing temp 60c bed 15mm/s Colorfabb traffic light red PLA Sliced in Simplify3d And yes, i know my fan shroud looks a mess. But it works great after I modded it with some Sugru I got sick of the custom shrouds warping and generally not going well for me. I used the sugru to improve the noise/vibrations and even airflow a little on the original version. Actually, could i paint it I wonder to improve the look?
  3. Hi Guys, I’m looking to see if it’s possible to replace the fans in my Ultimaker 2 Ext with much higher quality ones. I’ve already ordered a small Sunon MC25060V2-A99 fan for the back of the extruder assembly as it seems to be the standard drop in high quality replacement. What about the other two fans on the shroud, is there a high quality replacement for these that people are using? Thanks
  4. Nothing too amazing, but i'm quite happy with how the material turned out on this print. I used Formfutura ABSpro white filament and printed on my Ultimaker 2 Extended.
  5. I'm just wondering what settings people are using for this material? Currently I have it printing at 245c on my Ultimaker 2 Extended. I'm not sure if I should have the fans off all the time like normal ABS or should I have them on low? Thanks
  6. You should include a little "+" sticker in the upgrade kit
  7. Yeah hopefully they get sorted soon. But it is a bit worrying when you buy something online(not 5000 euro, but 150 euro is still a few euro) and 10 days later you still can't get a reply to an email.
  8. Thanks. Well I've had no refund or contact from them at all. So I'm hoping the order will go through. A reply to a customer is the least I would expect though :(
  9. Thanks for the advice guys. I have an Olsson Block on the way(i think anyway, no reply to emails sent to 3dsolex) and will be swapping that out once it arrives and sticking Laberns shroud on that.
  10. @RetromanIE There's only one adjustable setting that is related to this: Advanced -> Preferences -> Heater Timeout -> Period of max. power Can you check this? The default is 30 sec. A "heater error" is triggered if the nozzle heater is driven with maximum power and the temperature doesn't rise by (at least) 10°C within this period of time. Thanks, I didn't really understand what the setting meant. Now I do I might change it to 45-60 seconds and see what happens. Perhaps I should also reduce the fan setting to 60-65 max in Cura advanced settings as maybe 70 is too high for the Venkel shroud. Edit: And yes it is set to 30 seconds as default in my settings.
  11. Since the latest version of this firmware I've had a lot of "Error - Stopped. Heater Error" errors when printing. How can i adjust the settings to minimise this? I'm using a Venkel shroud instead of the standard and my fan settings are 40 min and 70 max in Cura for all prints. Any Ideas? Thanks
  12. I'm thinking yours is the one I'll go for when the olsson block arrives
  13. It's pretty difficult to say which fan shroud is the best as everyone will have their own opinion on what works well for them with the Olsson Block. So maybe a better question to ask is not which one is the best, but which one are you using? So, what fan shroud are people here using with their Olsson Blocks? My OB is on its way from 3dsolex, so all I can say is I use the Venkel shroud on my standard nozzle block. I hope we can get a few answers here as I'm sure a lot of people getting the OB will be looking for a custom shroud as well.
  14. It's really hard to tell which is the best design for the fan shroud. At the moment I'm using the Venkel shroud on my Ultimaker 2 Ext. It seems pretty good.
  15. Well, it's not a metric thread like all other srcews, its just a chipboard panel (or "SPAX") screw. The 2.5x16 defines the outer diameter and the length in mm. You should get it in any hardware store. Here is an example with image and a sketch with dimensions. Thanks, I reckon if i cant get them with all this info then I should just retire By the way, good job on that custom firmware. I've been using it for a while now and it's a lot better than the default.
  16. Yes, that would be the sensible thing to do I was hoping to get ahead of it and order whatever I need before I take it apart. I have time anyway as I only ordered the Olsson Block a day or 2 ago and that will probably take a while to arrive.
  17. Thanks, do you know the type of screws used. As in 10mm m4, m3 etc etc
  18. A simple question, what are the exact screw types used to mount the 2 fans to the fan shroud on the UM2 Ext? I've looked over the bill of materials and I just cant see it. I'm sure the information is staring me in the face I ordered a Olsson Block and some nozzles and want to print off a new fan shroud, but I think the screws in the old one got damaged when i did another mod recently. So I want to replace them. Thanks
  19. Wow this stuff looks amazing. I will have to try it out. Do you have to clean the glass and re-spray for each print or can you re-use a spraying for a few prints? You can re-use it for a few prints. I usually give it a quick respray just to make sure it sticks. When you need to clean the glass just take it off and run water over it and the stuff dissolves right away. So much easier than hair spray and the like.
  20. Well I do have some options that dont require me to use my hands Can I purchase spare clips to have in case my Sugru solution ends up looking a bit rubbish? Anyway, it’s not exactly a major problem, just something I was thinking about.
  21. I've had my Ultimaker 2 Extended about 4 months now and it gets used a lot. It’s awesome, it’s great, but damn those metal clips that hold the glass plate in place stand out as something that looks cheap, is annoyingly sharp and really need to be changed! Has anyone come across a drop in replacement for these? I understand it would have to be metal, but surely there is a better option made of less sharp or better quality material? I’ve upgraded a few bits on my printer, but just cant find anything on these. What I was going to do originally was coat them in a little Sugru, but would rather a better option than that. Any ideas guys?
  22. I spray a little Dimafix onto the clean glass bed and its great for PLA@60c and ABS@100-110c(it's really only meant for ABS, but works great for PLA on a heated bed). It really locks the plastic to the bed, and only starts to release it once the bed temp drops below 40-50c. It also dissolves in water, which makes cleanup a lot easier than hair spray etc. I love the stuff, just ordered 2 more cans online last night which should do me for 6-12 months i think. It's about €15 a can, which is a little high perhaps, but it does the job well.
  23. I've had my Ultimaker 2 Extended 4 months or so now. I'd say its going 120+ hours per week. It certainly earns it's spot in my "MakerRoom" as I call it I've swapped out the nozzle just once so far and will be getting an Olson Block pretty soon as it just looks like something every Ultimaker should have.
  24. I've had great success with Dimafix. I got some included with an order from Formfutura and now i swear by the stuff. It's works great on ABS and even though they don't mention PLA I've found it really good for that as well(as long as your heated bed is set to 60c). Once the bed cools down the parts just come off by themselves. Awesome stuff http://www.formfutura.com/dimafix-fixative-spray-for-3d-printing.html
