  1. thanks for the feedback Labern. I'll look into that but first I'll try the brim option. so far so good with that one. btw is color that important? Sure I prefer white but if there is an easy color that prints better I would prefer that one. I can always spray paint them afterwards.
  2. oops, forgot all about the brim option. I'll try that one. Many thanks niyoki! ps these came out pretty good:
  3. Hi all, the other day I was printing these figures but most of the time the nozzle clears away everything it has printed so far, generating this one big mess. Is there something that can be done to prevent this? I'm thinking about adjusting printing speed settings so that the filament has more time to glue itself on the heated bed. Or are there other possibilities perhaps? Any advise is more then welcome :-) ps printing with pla, I already adjusted the actual printing speed to 30mm/sec
  4. I'm almost out of filament, and I'm thinking about getting some spools of white and maybe a transparent one as well to try that one out for the first time. Is there any difference between the two? I worked with both of them and no problem with either one, except for the feeling that the flow is slightly better with ultimaker. But I could be mistaken. I never tried a transparent filament yet. can anyone help with this little dilemma? thanks a lot!
  5. auch, sorry to hear that :/ maybe you can print some kind of hollow piece/memorial where you put the ashes in during printing, before the printer closes the print? That way the piece and the ashes become one sorta speak.
  6. Just like gr5 said, load your stl file into cura, and then save the gcode into the sdcard. put the sdcard into the printer and start printing.

thanks for the tip, i'll maybe try that one.

    3D

you are prolly right cloakfiend. For instance this little idea: square variations (a human touch) comes more close on what I want to do now, but on a grander scale. So I found this site where they sell larger pla plates that I hopefully can heat up in some way and generate adjustments instead of printing a 15cm x 15cm plate.

    3D

Hi all, Since the new year I have this little 3D printing period, and the latest work is 3D inspired from the other works I made, but didn't come out of the printer itself. Sure I could print those modules out, but I had these boxes with those cardboard elements still lying around. And one of my latest print (mikado) inspired me to do pretty much the same thing, only now with these small rectangles. In short for years I have been interested in turning a 2D canvas into a 3D sculpture, or mess around with the frame itself instead of just painting the canvas. This is an attempt to do so with small modules (85x55x1mm)

This concept lies within a fabricated 3D printed square that you boil in water for a while and reshape it or sculpt it right away when printing is done. Every result is an unique variant of the same element trough the human touch that is needed to complete the work, like a marriage between handcraft and technology.

Based on one 3D printed element I have build this structure. Every variant you make is an unique one, or attach them together to make one bigger piece. ps I noticed some similarities with the work of Arne Quinze in this one. http://timguldentopsbe.webhosting.be/?portfolio=mikado

The other day I found this ergonomic module to create different types of furniture. The module is a 15cm/6inch cube that you could print out perfectly, you glue the modules together into whatever you need, and that's that. but I noticed the current printing time for each volume and material cost and I simply don't have the time/ finance to try this one out. So I guess this is more a futuristic concept design, intended for when the printing speed of 3D printing is increased :-) http://timguldentopsbe.webhosting.be/?portfolio=cube

this is a 3D printed scale model that is questioning function vs art with the use of the archetypes of a table/chair and maybe explains the role of an artist within a society. http://timguldentopsbe.webhosting.be/?portfolio=the-artist

The recent update of cura also mentioned the weight of the object, so this gave me the idea to create this object 2x1 inch, with the weight of 21 grams. This is an update on a previous handmade 2.1 design. The previous version was not that accurate compared with 3D printing methods, so here is a 3D printed version of the design. dimensions: 2x1inch – weight: 21grams – material: PLA combining 21grams, the symbolic weight of ones soul with a dimension of 2×1 inch ( Any Given Sunday – Pacino – Peace by Inches /Valerie’s letter from V from vendetta ) It’s something small, but also an essential thing you can hold on to, a reminder of those moments, like I mashed them together into this piece.

  16. Hi there @Maverick71 that is somewhat of a relief I was starting to think I was the only one using this proggy care for some interactions by any chance? Maybe we can help each other out? Just pm me if you want. cy later
  17. Hi all, just wandering around this Q for a minute, what happens when the filament is out in the middle of a print? Is there any way to pause printing, change filament and continue?
  18. Hi there, I'm in no way an expert and could be wrong, but I would go towards some ventilation though. Maybe a ventilation system with micro holes that keeps away most dust?
  19. Yeah, I needed a bowl so I designed one and printed it out next to that a cutlery design for appetizers. https://ultimaker.com/en/community/view/17505-some-first-designs I hope it's the start towards more functional pieces. Right now I'm thinking an even bigger bowl with the use of fragmented elements, but that one isn't sorted out just yet

    fractals

yes, it's already doing the trick really, more and more I start to fragment things a bit more, not really fractal like, but more faceted, sometimes organic. it's a very interesting approach indeed, Neri Oxman already told the same kind of thing of going back to nature and putting the focus more on the process of things:
  21. Thank you for your reply. What was your goal when you decided to buy an Ultimaker? Did you already have a thought on what direction you will be heading after your abstract studies? Functional things for in the house, or? Saw the thread by the way, looking good! Curious to see where this is headed! Well, I'm curious about it too I'm having a great time with those abstract studies, but now my first more functional pieces are there as well. It's great to transform a 3D image into a object, that's for sure. Great for testing things out for design, and art wise it has a lot of potential. I first came into contact with 3D printing around 15 years ago, but I just couldn't afford it. Now that it's becoming an emerging market I see a lot of potential: - a breakaway in time from traveling objects across the world towards traveling virtual plans that you print at home? - the chance of trowing some objects/designs into this virtual world for free, just to see how that one goes really - etc. Anyway, I'm having a great time exploring this field with that ultimaker, that's for sure
  22. Hi there Didier, No, I don't work in a restaurant Right now I'm using lightwave 3D (https://www.lightwave3d.com/)
  23. out of these, more abstract wanderings I managed to squeeze out some more functional related designs. One is a bowl, that you can find here. the other one is a cutlery design for appetizers that you can find here.
