  1. I ended up getting the Intel Realsense R200. I haven't scanned with it yet but it looks promising. They're still on pre-order on the Intel website so I consider myself lucky they shipped it out to me when they did. I have gotten it to work on Windows 10. I'll update on how it is once I make a scan with it.
  2. I've heard good things about the Pro but the screen is just to small if I'm going to be using it as a laptop as well. I don't mind lugging around a larger screen if it means I don't need a laptop and a tablet. I'm surprised there isn't more stuff like that out there as the only 15 inch tablets aren't released yet. I'd think there's definitely a market for this. Looks like I may have to wait a little while. edit : Actually I just found a few, still surprised there aren't many out there.
  3. Thanks for the info as I'm shopping around right now for new equipment. My laptop was stolen so now I need a new one and my old tablet I sold. I'm thinking a 15" tablet PC instead of replacing both. Good to see it will work with windows 10. Hopefully I can find something good that has that intel camera built in. It looks like with this intel camera I wouldn't even need the structure scanner. edit : Interesting, so it's basically the same thing as the structure scanner just made by intel.
  4. I just signed up for the trial for Agisoft Photo Scan and I'll check out Momento since those are free. Depending on the results I'm leaning heavily toward the structure scanner because I need something fairly portable that I can bring on a flight with me and it sounds like the better option over the Kinect. Unfortunately the Android software is under developed for it and can't even access the color function of the camera. I really am not a big fan of apple products but I do need to replace my tablet anyways.
  5. Thanks for all the replies. At some point I would like to use the scans to be re-sold so spending a few hundred on it is no issue but upwards of 2-3k+ is way above my budget currently. I guess it comes down to if the structure scanner is better than the kinect as a scanner, it looks like they use the same method and can even use the same software. Since the Kinect is way cheaper maybe I'll start with that and use the free software to test it out. So with the Kinect you can use a turntable to scan things? I don't think you can do that with the Structure Scanner. I'll have to check out that Agisoft Photo Scan and Momento to. I don't have any quality camera's other than the one built into my Note 4 (which is pretty decent). Looks like Momento has a 'try it' product I can download. They both look similar that they use a camera to capture the object.
  6. I've done some research and have found that more recently there have been a few scanners released affordable to home users. The ones I've ran into before were upwards of 15k. What I'm looking to do is a 3d scan of a person (full body). A few options I've read about : Structure scanner - the downside is it uses Apple Ipad so I'd have to buy one just for this and I don't really like Apple. Kinect - I've read you can scan with this but I haven't been able to find a lot of info. Project Tango - Haven't been able to find much info, even on their official website and it doesn't look complete. So my only option that I'm looking at is the Structure Scanner. Does anyone know of a good 3d color scanner that's not thousands of dollars?
