  1. I don't understand. In "Machine settings", there are "max width", "max depth", and "max height" Then it also have the options of head size towards X min/max, Y min/max and printer gantry height. For the head size towards .... the description says "The head size when printing multiple objects, measured from the tip of the nozzle towards the outer part of the head" This confuses me, so how can I measure the Xmin and Xmax? In this particular case, the printer gantry height is set by default to 0. Is this the cause of the problems? In other software (such as MatterControl), the printer just starts at Z=0 (or 0.5 etc) and does not have this problem.
  2. I have bought a prusa i3 printer with Bowden dual extruder, which the 3D-printed X carriage holds two independent hot ends. Unfortunately 3D-printed part that grips the hot ends come loose no matter how tight I tighten the screws, and often slips out during a print. Therefore I am looking for a more reliable replacement. I am considering the cyclops 2-in-1-out hotend, which saves me from calibrating displacement between two nozzles and things loosening. Is it better for me to go for the 2-in-1-out hotend, or other 2-in-2-out packages such as Chimera and Kranken? My goal is to use the dual hotend to print ASA / polycarbonate object material, and soluble PLA/HIPS/PVA support material. If the required hot end temperature of both materials are different, (say 240C for ASA and 190C for PLA), then does this preclude me from using cyclops? Otherwise I will have to wait for an excessively long time for temperature to drop / raise in each layer when switching materials, am I right?
  3. Thx! So once I sorted out the problems when printing with only extruder 1 (see my post in the cura section where cura prints the first layer at 20mm above the heated bed), then I will experiment on dual extrusion
  4. I am running Cura 15.04 on Lubuntu 16.04 with a Prusa i3: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Double-Nozzles-Dual-Extruder-MK8-High-Resolution-3D-Printer-Reprap-Prusau-i3-kits-with-LCD2004-8GB/32414401471.html I only set the number of extruder to 1, so I ran exclusively on the first extruder. Then I successfully ran the bed levelling wizard. Then I loaded the sample ultimaker figure and pressed "print" The printing started after the bed and the nozzle warmed up, but on the first layer, the print head moved into the middle and 20mm above the heated bed. So needless to say, the filament failed to stick to the heated bed. So where has gone wrong? The printer firmware, or the cura settings?
  5. Thanks! So in File->Machine Settings->Extruder Count, I can set the number of extruders. Then in "support dual extruder, I can set it to "second extruder". But how can I ensure the object (in the STL file) itself is only printed by the extruder 1? Also, where can I specify the position of the second extruder relative to the first extruder? Is this in the firmware itself? Thanks! Mark
  6. I have just bought some ASA filaments, because of its UV-resistance. I have also ordered a dual-extruder printer, with the intention to use extruder 1 for object printing and extruder 2 for printing support sturcture. I just wonder does ASA have problems sticking to PVA support structure? What hot bed temperature should I set for PVA, and what is the maximum recommended speed for using ASA with water-soluble PVA support structure?
  7. I am running Cura 15.04.4 for OS X, and I have a Prusa Mendel i3 with dual extruder. How can I set Cura to print objects with extruder 1, and support structures with extruder 2? The only reason I bought the dual extruder printer is to enable me to print water-soluble support structures. Thanks!
