    Beta testing update

The first tool changer upgrades are running.

We already changed two things. First, there is an alternative, super rigid dock version. Due to some manufacturing tolerances with the UM2 frame panels (e.g. thickness 6.0 mm vs 6.1 mm) the first version's click-on mount may not fit tight enough on every printer. Second, I added a small "life-saver" device, providing an additional mechanical interlock when picking up the head.

    Moving ahead

I don't know your plans for the upcoming holidays and the first beta round isn't finished yet. But if some of those who showed interest on the doodle poll intend to use some free time to work on this at the turn of the year please send me a message. I'll update the documentation soon, so there should be an opportunity to join.

I'm on holidays from the 25 december up to the 8 january and I stay home most of the time. If I can help, let me know.

No news? houlàlà, I saw a print made by conny_G, is that some results?

Yes, it's my first "perfect" print, the third or fourth iteration on the 3D Benchy. Found out that my issues with that actually wasn't the calibration (as I though initially), but the print temperature of the magenta PLA...

For me the core issue is currently is that the docking process is not completely reproducibly stable yet - the head can tilt by 1-2mm in the dock. For me 100 picks-ups of the second head work, 1 doesn't. Curious how the new version of the dock will work that I just printed.

very exciting, I hope the new design works better. Great work, thank you for the news!

  4.

Well, during the week most of them seem to be quite busy with their daytime work. I expect the first finished upgrades this weekend.

Yes, exactly. And waiting for the rest of the deliveries of cables, plugs, crimps, screws.

I've the magnets and the upgrade kit for ulimaker 2 to 2+. Isn't it enough? Should we get more cables, plugs, crimps, screws?

  5. Maybe a short video is worth a thousand words.

Thank you for all the informations and the picture of the electronic plate. This is incredible, this video shows well the move of the bed when the head is loaded and pushed back in the corner. Thank you for all this details, I become nervous now and I want to learn to program some pieces in cura now. Where can I find the supplemental pieces to print (head supports, park arm, dual spools support etc...)? As a newbie, I think I will have to make several pieces to get one perfect and it will take some time. Or perheaps I should wait a little more and get all the instructions. Be sure I'll do my best to get it work.

  6. very impressive! How is it possible to get this dual extrusion of yours? Or, when do you launch the list of required pieces for this this addons, the assembling manual and the .stl files for ultimaker 2+? I read all the adventure in another tread but never see the last prototype files or/and the way to assemble all these stuffs. Your results are perfect and I don't know why I became nervous and don't sleep well these last days. At least, I know it is possible to get a dual extrusion for the ultimaker 2+ :)

    Here we go!

  7.

no "light dual extrusion upgrade kit" for my ultimaker 2+ I bought one month ago,:( very dissapointed

I understand that disappointment but I think that would be a huge upgrade. I have a different mindset though as I've had my 2+ since February and not just for a month. The 3 is an additional $1000 over the 2+ so that is a pretty big difference for the additional features. It's not really in the same pricing category.

As I wrote down, I expect at least somewhat about dual extrusion with the ultimaker2+ from the ultimaker inventor. What is presented is somewhat very complex and innovative (camera, auto calibrating, removable head, etc..) and I think it is a nice machine but too expensive for some people like me. How is it possible to get such an experience of dual extrusion and doing noting more for all the customers who put confidence in the research Team and bought the ultimaker 2/2+ ? I read for years about that dual extruder extension (which is proposed by an independant factory http://ulti.creatr.it/en/2x/index.html ) but I only want the ultimaker Team experience. That was the goal, that was the opportunity of launching a light dual extruder for the previous series, I'm not talking about a "changing your ultimaker2+ into an ultimaker3", I'm talking about an simplier addons  just enough for a "we didn't forget our supporters who make this new printer possible ".
