  1. Today I received my plate (PrimaCreator FlexPlate-Powder Coated PEI 220 x 220 mm) and installed it on one of my glass plates.

I cut away the magnetic plate where the front clips are. Because the magnetic plate is slightly thicker than the clamps, the print plate fits perfectly. It works. 🙂

Thanks for your support, I really appreciate it!

I don't use it personally, but I like the textured surface from Prusa.

I use on one of my printers a Filafarm Switch Plate, and recently I have seen that they now also provide a textured Filaprint plate. But I don't know if it is comparable to the Prusa one.

Thanks, I will look into the Filafarm stuff, didn't know them until now.

  3. Has anybody used any kind of alternative, textured build plate with an Ultimaker printer (like the “Double-sided Textured PEI Powder-coated Spring Steel Sheet” from Prusa)? Not sure if there is something like this for the Ultimakers…

The glass plate is fine for most print jobs, but sometimes a slightly textured surface looks better.

    Thanks for any feedback, -pl

Did you have to unwind the wire? I think mine might not have enough strain. Would you suggest crimping instead of tinning the ends of the wire for better support? and does anyone know where to just purchase the wires? Like this: Ultimaker Capacitive Sensor Cable UM3/S5 (igo3d.com) in the USA

Sorry to be too late for you, but anyway: I pulled the wire a little bit, but did not need to replace it for the repair. Maybe the next time it breaks I have to buy replacement…

  5. Thanks for creating this very helpful document, I like it!

BTW, there is an error in „Support distance priority“, where at one place there should be „Z overrides X/Y“ instead of „X/Y overrides Z“

  7. Actually I am having problems with "Pause at height" also:

After loading a model into Cura 3.6.0 I add a post processing script "Pause at height" or "Filament change" for a change at a certain layer number.

When during printing the printer (UM3) reaches that certain layer, it goes to pause and I can change the filament. When I resume the print after changing the filament, the (travel-)speeds seem to be different (very high) and there seems to be no more z axis advancements.

Is anybody being successful in doing this or could it be some Cura problem (or am I just plainly stupid)?

I tried the "Pause at height" without changing the filament and it went perfectly fine...

Seems to  me that the texture (which would not just sit on the surface) would have some affect on the sound much the same way different woods with different grain patterns/densities shape an instument's sound.

I can see where different infill patterns, densities, varying densities, etc. can also affect the sound.

Not sure about that, because in this certain setup the horns are being used as tweeters, with low power input (the FRS 5 X drivers are suited for 5W). I think what you mean here is happening mostly for the lower frequencies with the airwaves transporting a lot of more energy, where material resonances can (and do) influence the sound. But a definitive answer would require some more measurements to check for resonance effects in the horn material.

The horns definitely bundle the sound waves, which gives the speakers a very special directional characteristics (which I do not like).

Is he going to polish and paint it, or does it stay as-is? If used as-is, I also wonder what the effect of layer lines would be on the sound? Would that divert or filter some tones?

He left it as-is (and likes it).

Regarding the layer lines effect of the horns, I just discussed this with a friend of mine who is a real analog audio guy and who designed and built the crossover network for the speakers (which turned out to be a real pain in the neck to optimize it) and did also a lot of measurements of the speaker system. In his opinion the acoustical effect of the layer lines is insignificant. My own tinnitus doesn't allow me to be an audio reference listener :-/ so I don't have an opinion on that.

  10. Could somebody please have a look at this peculiar scaling behavior (see video screenshot)?

When I rotate a model in Cura 3.6 and scale it in non-uniform way, then -- after the first non uniform scaling -- just by clicking into the scale value windows it changes object sizes in strange ways. I do not think that this is the intended way...

    please see video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/15S9pqEQmlUNl62u6c2E2yVKTOX-D4uT-/view?usp=sharing

Is that not what the modeling program is for?

That is not sufficient. Sometimes all you have is the STL file.

(And yes, I know that you could import it into the modeling program, but it would be better to be able to measure distances within Cura. This would also be helpful in case you scale a model.)

    Hello

Cura 3.6 is unusable on a macbook air 2011 I5 1.7Ghz 4GB RAM 256GBSSD with mac os high sierra just freshly installed.
In Solid view if I don't do anyting CPU stays at 3-4%. As I click anywhere it jumps @150% making any selection/option really slow.
In layer view once the stl is sliced CPU is 120% all the time.

This was also for cura 3.5.x

In 3.4 I think it was better

Similar for me. On my 2018 MacBook Pro it takes about 2...3 minutes to start up, using 100% CPU. During this time it displays "updating configuration", before it eventually shows the GUI and becomes responsible. This behavior is reproducible. I guess Cura 3.6 needs some kind of serious tuning 😉

Btw., I like the Gyroid infill!

  14. Thank you, SanderG, for your kind recommendation, I respect your opinion.

Anyway I just repaired it, my UM3 ist printing again. Wasn't so difficult, please see my photos and the description.

Both of the wires connecting the capacitive leveling sensor are plugged into contact springs on the sensor, and the other side is plugged into a print head PCB connector. Obviously there is a design problem which leads over time to breaking wires at the sensor side, due to bending the wires when opening the print core cover for changing the print cores.

If you want to repair the broken leveling sensor wires, you got to unscrew the four screws holding the bottom part of the print head.

The bottom part then is only held by the level sensor cable and the front fan cable (the two middle connectors of the four ones).

Disconnect both of them, be careful to not damage the wires while freeing them.

Now that you have the printhead bottom part separated from the printhead, you can disconnect the wires (or remove the broken part of the wires) from the contact springs by carefully opening the inner part of the spring until the wire can be pulled out. Don't use too much force, the contact spring is very delicate! If you bent it away from the middle you gotta bend it back. You might wish to use a magnifier and a pointed tool like a needle for this part of the action.

Un-isolate the ends of the wires and solder them, then plug them back into the contact springs, take care not to reverse them (see pictures). Check that they are tightly stuck in there, otherwise you need to bend the spring somewhat more.

After re-assembly of the printhead (careful with the side fans and their cables) and inserting one or both of the print cores you can start the auto-leveling procedure and hopefully start printing again.

    Good luck!

Hi @leliep, sorry to hear you are facing difficulties with the active leveling. You don't have to fix it yourself, but it can be your choice if you want to. In any case, I would recommend to get in touch with your reseller and discuss with them what the best course of action is in order to fix this. It can be that you prefer to do it yourself, but even then it is smart to mention this to your reseller to avoid any complications further down the road. If you prefer an official repair, you should be able to get this as well.

    Good luck!

From my first exeriences with them they want me to ship the printer back to them. I don't want to do that, because I'm not sure in what condition my beloved UM3 will be returned to me. I would have better bought it somewhere else, but when I bought it I didn't know that. :-/

BTW., would be nice to have some kind of instruction for the printhead repair... (hint, hint)
