  1. Hi, Every time I use Brim in Cura, the bottom of my prints are cut off (1-2mm) - any ideas why? Thanks!
  2. See here for the arguments from the S3D forums: https://forum.simplify3d.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=8763&p=37358#p37358
  3. Fair enough, yeah UM3 is a nightmare! Is there a respository/website where people upload working Ultimaker material profiles?
  4. Thanks a lot!! I've been trying to print with Simplify3D and since the latest firmware apparently Cura has put in place MaterialID's that stop Simplify3D working - see here: https://ultimaker.com/en/community/52023-um3-and-s3d-g-code-unable-to-send-print-job-to-group?page=2&sort= Apparently it will still work with 3.7
  5. Hi, I'm looking for an amazing ABS profile (0.2 or even 0.1mm) for Cura and Ultimaker 3, could people please upload them so I can try them out? I'm looking for one where the supports are easy to remove, the undersides are nice and the quality is great. Not too bothered about the speed as long as the quality is high. If the ABS is too hot or cold then that's pretty easy to solve as every filament is different but I'm pulling my hair out trying to mess around with the settings and not sure I'm making any progress! Thanks!
  6. I will send you my profile by PM. Hi, could you send it to me too please? Thanks!
  7. Ok I'll try a slightly lower temp and report back. I need to print ABS for models that I make - I've tried loads of different materials. The Up Box handles it fine. You have a lot more experience with that machine and I am sure it did not print perfect out of the box. And, it would seem you are trying to apply one set of experiences to a new machine and that never works out. These are complex machines and as good as they have become, nothing is ever plug-n-play with so many variables. Also, when used as designed and a few accommodations are made, such as getting used to the new paradigms involved, you can do some really nifty things. Bluntly, it is like when I see people complain that the newer, more sophisticated slicers are not as forgiving for sloppy modeling and they say it is a step backward. It is not; it is just that with more sophistication comes more attention to detail. Once that happens, it is amazing what these things can do. I actually don't agree - I think for a printer that costs 2 to 3 times the amount, I would expect more attention to detail and refinement from the printer manufacturer i.e. Ultimaker. More thought and testing should've gone into the design of the machine itself - loading material from the back is an awful way to do it, there's no door or easy way to enclose it for high-warp materials, I've had to order those separately (!!!), the glass build plate supplied doesn't stick properly so I've had to order and apply Buildtak. As for software, half the time the printer or Cura needs to be reset to even connect to it, the standard profiles supplied give terrible undersides and the list goes on - I shouldn't need to buy Simplify3D to get decent prints! I can easily point to a manufacturer that has done things right - Formlabs. They brought out the Form 1 and the Form 1+ (similar to the way Ultimaker brought out the 1 and 2) and they had issues. Then Formlabs solved every single issue that users had in a thoughtful way, both hardware and software and released a fully working product, right out of the box. It just works. And they supplied all the necessary kit too. If I'm spending $3500+ on a 3D printer, it should just work out of the box, especially with a material as common as ABS.

  9. From a USB stick - my PC is a long distance away from my Ultimaker so I need Wifi to work! Either a high quality ABS profile with Cura (or a way to print Simplify3D via Cura.
  10. Btw I managed to get the Simplify3d print going via USB once but it seems like hit-and-miss, completely random. I've upgraded to the latest firmware and like someone else said, it seems worse, I want to go back to 3.7 is that possible?
  11. Attached is a side-by-side comparison of prints (all Rigid Ink ABS and enclosed print areas) with my Up Box (Up software) and Ultimaker 3 (Cura and Simplify 3D). You can see how bad the UM3 prints are with Cura. They were better with Simplify 3D but still can't match the Up Box (Simplify 3D connection to the raft was hard to remove, Up Box comes off easily). I'm hopeful the Ultimaker 3 is capable of matching the Up Box in terms of quality and ease of support removal but the Cura and Simplify3D defaults have poor support structures as default (and you can see that Cura's undersides are very bad). If anyone has a working ABS + Cura + UM3 profile that I can try I'd be very grateful! Thanks
  12. This, plus: - Filament that is easily accessible - accessing from the back is a joke - Firmware that doesn't glitch 24/7 - Cura that actually works quickly and reliably I bought an UM3 for its reputation for reliability and quality - I mistakenly thought it would be 'print and go' - I've had nothing but problems. At the moment I can't even send a Simplify 3D print via Cura to the printer (using Simplify 3D because Cura is awful). The supported underside of prints are a complete mess, stringy and not flat. I should be able to just print it out of the box perfectly and only mess with settings if I want to - not have to change things because they don't work in the first place! Hi @TitaniumApple, sorry to hear you seem to be having some issues with your Ultimaker 3 and general user experience. I would like to invite you to open up a new thread where you elaborate a little bit more on the issues you seem to be having and hopefully we'll be able to provide you with some tips or fixes to significantly improve your workflow. Please let me know when you have to be sure I don't miss it. Thanks! Ok thanks for the offer of help - my main issue right now is not being able to print at all with Simplify3D, whether through Cura or USB: https://ultimaker.com/en/community/52023-um3-and-s3d-g-code-unable-to-send-print-job-to-group Thanks
  13. Hi, I want to download UM3 firmware 3.7 - where can I get it from? I can only find the latest stable or beta firmware, not older ones. Thanks

  15. Hi, I'm trying to send G-code generated via Simplify 3D to my UM3 wirelessly by putting the S3D G-Code into Cura (v.3) and pressing 'Print Over Network' - it looks like it uploads it but then it says 'Unable to send print job to group' and won't print - any ideas what's going on? USB gives me 'error on ln. 0' and won't print either! I also had to turn automatic bed levelling to 'Never' because it kept giving me an error about the printheads being misaligned. It prints okay if I just use Cura (but very bad print quality because it's Cura). I bought an Ultimaker 3 because it's supposed to be just 'print and go' but I've had nothing but problems with it! My Cetus ($299 and print straight out of the box) prints in much much better quality atm!! Thanks
  16. Hi, every print I make with my Ultimaker 3, it seems to slice off the bottom of the print (about 1-3mm I estimate). For example, a cylinder on its side will have a flat base when it should be curved!! Why's it doing this and how can I stop it? I'm using the default settings for UM Nylon and UM PVA. Thanks!
  17. Since updating to the latest beta firmware it isn't happening for me much anymore and I'm on the latest Cura (buggy it seems) - it happened once the other day and I restarted Cura and it was fine
  18. I think this is an Ultimaker Nylon problem - I have used Nylon12 from Rigid.ink and it's WAY better, it performs like you would expect Nylon to perform. I have found Ultimaker Nylon to be far too flexible, I printed a UMNylon cylinder with a flat base and UMPVA supports and after soaking it in water the flat base warped into a convex shape!! Rigid.ink Nylon12 is much stronger and stiffer.
  19. Solved - for anyone interested, I cleaned out the 2 print cores using Hot Pull method, looked inside the feeder to check for any ground filament (nothing there), reset to factory default settings, updated to latest test firmware (Aug '17) and put Nylon Black and Natural PVA on the NFC spoolholder. It's now working, phew!
  20. Great thanks, yeah I've noticed a lot of bugs and I've only had it a few days...not something I expected from a printer that has been out nearly a year and has such a good reputation! Also, could you link to POM material and your settings please, VERY interested to try that out! It's similar to Delrin right? Does it work with the Ultimaker PVA? Thanks!
  21. I've had the exact same issue, it constantly thinks the printer is busy, even though it's not.
  22. Hi, I literally just bought my UM3 a few days ago. I successfully printed a few things with the default PLA and PVA. I tried some Rigid.ink Nylon12 and Rigid.ink PVA and they also worked. Randomly, Cura then says it can't connect to the printer, saying it's busy printing. Now, Cura says 'Current printer status is maintanence'. So I try printing with USB. It starts, then stops immediately with 'An error occurred while processing this print job. Line nr = 0'. So I factory reset the printer and try again. This time, 'An error occurred while processing this print job. Line nr = 563' Help! I only just bought it!!!
  23. Hi, I'm trying to use some non-UM filament and can't seem to change the default materials when Loading/Unloading on the printer itself. For example, the PVA settings are fixed so if my material has a slightly higher temperature then it will be harder for it to extrude. Cura also thinks that the material is the default PVA when it's not! Thanks!
