  1. Hi, 

    I’m printing a huge model for a client in PLA. It will imbed metal parts and components that must fit accurately with some tolerancing. 
     

    My first sample test part I printed at 0.1 mm resolution and that wasn’t accurate enough to fit the small metal parts. But it worked well at 0.06mm. 
     

    However to print the full complete product at 0.06 mm will take 6 days!! That’s too long, and there’s risk for an error in the print. 
     

    Only alternative is to print at a lower resolution and expand these features. But by how much? It must fit metal discs that are about 0.08” And a metal bearing spinner at about 0.27” tall by 0.86” diameter. If i am to print this at a lower resolution, I’ll need to widen these dimensions a bit with more tolerance. But how much?

  2. Today I opened Cura to print a cad file. I need the profile setting to be at the highest resolution 0.06mm. But I can't adjust that option for whatever reason. Why is it doing this? I tried closing and reopening Cura but that didn't work.

  3. I was printing a 2-tone PLA print when I noticed my AA print core in Extruder 2 was not moving. So I cancelled the print, and did a print core cleaning with some cleaning filament. During the Hot Pull, the fan door broke open, and the brass plate was dangling free. I turned off my printer, and removed the print core, and now the nozzle is dangling by a wire.

     

    Is there any way I can fix this? Where can I find a replacement AA print core? Ultimaker's website is not easy to find things to buy!

  4. I’m printing a figurine that stands 7 inches tall, with support material. My customer wants to paint it once completed. I am just 1 hour in and I noticed some ugly lines showing up on the feet. I am printing with Kodak brand PLA green on my ultimaker 3. What can I do to make the rest of the print appear smoother?

  5. I've had my ultimaker for a while, and I am wondering how to print with 2 colors. I've looked on youtube and read instructions, but I'm not sure how to do it within cura.

     

    Do I have to upload 2 seperate CAD files into Cura, then fuse or merge them together to get a two-tone print?

  6. While printing a small model using PLA, it appears that the fan door wasn't closed tight, and the model fell off the build plate and got stuck inside the fan door. Causing it to get stuck open and ajar like this. I cannot close or open the door any further because it's all jammed up inside.

     

    What can I do?

     

    Even though my printer is still under warranty, I'd rather fix the problem rather than having to get a brand new print head for it.

     

    Should I just heat up the extruder and pick away at the leftover filament that's jamming everything? Or is there something else I can do?

    In your example, I think you need to check your settings in CURA: make sure that Extruder 2 is set to Materials: PVA and Printcore: BB 0.4.

     

    It can affect your prints since settings for various materials varies, so it's always best to make sure that both CURA and the printer are set on the same material.

     

    PVA can crack because the print temperature is too hot, but also if it has taken some moisture from the air. PVA is extremely sensitive to humidity and will absorb the moisture in the air if let out in the open, or even in the bag but without a dessicant or a way to absorb moisture, which will alter the quality of the material.

    I do think my PVA may be moisture damaged by the humidity. I put some dry heaters next to the spool to dehumidify. However I'm still having a problem matching the configuration of my Cura to my Printer

     

    I'm not sure how to adjust the settings correctly in either the Cura or the printer. I tried everything. I've provided screenshots

  8. Hi everyone.

     

    So every time I attempt to start a print job, I keep getting the message that reads:

     

    Change configuration Material 2: PLA (generic

    PrintCore 2: AA 0.4

     

    This makes no sense because the material in printcore 2 is PVA with the recommended BB 0.4 extruder. I even changed the materials in the material selection screen. But it keeps saying this. WHY?

     

    If I neglect to change or fix this issue, is this going to affect my prints?

    Adding more filament should work but I'd just remove the bowden from either end.  Remove the clip.  Push down firmly on the collet so that it's all the way down and then at the same time pull the bowden straight up.

     

     

     

    Thanks but do you know how to go about doing that? I disatached the tube from the feeder end. It's still attached to the extruder.

     

    And I'm not even sure what you mean by bowden... :/

  10. Hi,

     

    My filament ran out of slack while in the middle of a 3D print.

     

    There is still filament inside the tube, but there isn't enough slack on the end for the feed motor to push it in or pull it out.

     

    How do you fix this? Should I just load a new spool of filament to feed the remainder of the filament out of the extruder during a print? Or should I remove some hardware to take it out manually?

  11. So I'm still new to my 3D printer. I printed out two different parts that fit together. One part was a square peg that fit in a square hole. Using Solidworks, I set the dimensions of the square peg to be exactly 6mm, and the hole to be the same dimensions. When the print was done, the peg was way too thick to fit in the hole, and the hole had a thickness of 5.6mm. This means 0.4mm too small.

     

    What tolerance do I need to set my printer to, in order to get perfect fittings from Solidworks?

     

    Is my printer not callibrated correctly?

     

    Should I set the print thickness to the thinnest setting at 0.6mm?

  12. Hi everyone,

    I have a busy weekend ahead of me. I have to drive out of town to my family's house to a family reunion, and if I go, I will need to bring my 3D printer with me so I can get some parts made in time for my deadline with my client on Monday at noon.

    What is the best and most secure way to transport your 3D printer? Should I put it all back in the box? Are any zip ties required to hold the extruder in place?

  13. In the first steps of leveling the baseplate, it asks you to raise the plate until it is 1mm away from the

    I have a ruler that is 1mm thick. I used the ruler to get a rough estimation on how close the plate should be to the nozzle. Then I used my calibration card in the second steps. After that, I began printing. To my dismay the printer was printing way too close to the build plate, and I had to abort.

    What did I do wrong? There is no step by step video tutorials to help.

  14. Hi

    I bought my brand new Ultimaker 3, and I need to print a part that has some complex curves. I am trying to get it to use the PVA material from my BB extruder. But when I check the box that says "Generate Support" the item becomes "unable to slice" and it refuses to let me save it onto the USB.

    It didn't have this problem on my first part that I printed last night. Why is it doing this?

    Help!
