  1. In another thread I stumbled over this:

    @GregValiant mentioned:

Holes create a special problem.  The nozzle drags the plastic in a circle and the plastic wants to cut corners so it pulls towards the center making an ID smaller  You don't notice it as much on an OD because usually there is an inner wall to act as a dam to keep the plastic outboard.  How much it pulls to the middle is affected by a lot of things.  The phenomenon is known as the Gr5 Snot Factor after it's discoverer who had a runny nose at the time.

His proposal had been to use "Hole Horizontal Expansion" to compensate for this phenomenon, which is nor useful, as soon as a lot of different hole diameters appear in a single print.

Wouldn't it be a solution to print inner diameters very very slowly? This could be another approach feasable with CURA...

It is being addressed, but wouldn’t you rather have a tested solution than a quick one?

    I suppose your question addresses V4.9.0 too?😏

... In the meantime, it is recommended to use Cura 4.8 for the affected printers (for dual prints).

I'd really expect to address this annoyance immediately...

    Danke schon mal

  6. Adaptive layer thickness seems out of bounds:

    AdaptiveLayers.thumb.JPG.2d97da0566493e0109f3af598062a419.JPG

As a base thickness I had chosen 0.1mm. Ok, so maximum thickness should be 0.25mm, according to "Adaptive Layers Maximum Variation", isn't it? But why 0.53 mm for the brim then?

Minimum thickness seems to shrink below the Ultimakers' specification of 0.06mm - 0.01mm is to small. Why isn't minimum thickness set accordingly to the minimum layer thickness of the Ultimaker? Yesterday I ran into the same problem with another part. As a result the nozzle began bathing in filament. Luckily that happened at the 6 top layers, so I could save the job with a box cutter....

    -          Drag and reposition panels everywhere in the interface

I think it's a good first step: But why stop midways and stay inside the interface instead "Drag and reposition panels everywhere in your desktop? With multiscreen environments becoming more and more ubiquitious, why restrict panels to the interface, where they will always hide some portion of it?

  8. I have built an adapter to mount on a syringe. Its hole width at the top should be 2mm in diameter.

CURA shows the hole and the dimensions seem to fit:

    Cura.jpg.9130ce276acfb20ab70b6a7c83e26d8a.jpg

When this adapter is printed with a 0.8mm AA nozzle, the hole in the tip simply does not exist! The adapter is air- und watertight! I have experienced that they always tend to be too small -- but there is a real leap between 2mm and solid airtight

Is there a way to achieve exact inner hole diameters?

  9. Filament change:

I just experienced a weird situation, when I wanted to change Willowflex filament (a flexible one) for normal PLA. As friction of Willowflex against the Bowden tubes is higher, Willowflex is not totally removed from the Bowden tube and the extruder.

The only option UM3 firmare offers ist to confirm, the filament to remove has been removed - nothing else, silly! There has to be an option to move filament manually until the filament is really removed or at least an option to end the filament changeing procedure. That way you could use the menu to get to the point where you can move filament manually.

There is a postprocessor available which writes Layer Numbers into the G-Code file and displays them via M117.

Maybe usefull for your application / UM3 too...

Thank you @drayson, but I simply wouldn't know how to use that code...

The more I think about it, the more I feel that Cura Connect should provide extensive information about the current print job. Let's wait and see...

  11. I imagine, it is the only way I can monitor print and decide when I have to control whether some special or critical part of a print works out. Its mostly about deciding whether to cancel the print or not at that point. I've spent to much time in front of the printer, waiting for certain parts to be printed - unnecessary wate of time due to lack of information. I can easily get the layer number from the layer view in Cura.

Other ways of avoiding that issue would be

    • a more detailed information via Cura connect web interface, which is simply one of the poorest I can imagine...
    • indicating a time in Cura's layer view, predicting when a single layer will be printed before completion of the whole print. So you could always compare with the remaining time for printing on the UM's display.

The solution does not necessarily have to come via the printer's display, it could also come from Cura's web interface.

From another point of view: Indicating the remaining time AND e.g. 'Z 1000/1784' wouldn't be so difficult and bad...

This can be fixed by resetting Cura Connect on the UM3. Got to the menu System -> Maintenance -> Cura Connect reset (the one below Firmware reset).

    This should fix your problem.

This happens way too often to be solved with a workaround only!

  13. Every time, I try to download a CURA update, a popup form starts asking me the same boring questions. I really don't like redundancy and I'm logged in. So why are you asking the same questions again and again? Until now I've answered these question to my best knowledge.

For the future I'm tempted to simply click some items from the menu to get the update downloaded. Will that random and wrong data help you in any way? I don't think so - but you don't seem to be really interested in that data, otherwise you'd keep them in a dataset under my account. I am quite sure, many users simply click something to get forward and I'll join them...
