Okay. So what is preventing the start gcode from working?

HI I have been using cura 15.04.6 for a while and decided to try 3.6 after 15.04.6 couldn't render a vase. I am using the robo 3d r1+ and octoprint I checked the start gcode to make sure I saw the g29 auto level. but when it went to print it did not execute the g29. if fact it just started printing in mid air , at the height the nozzle happened to be at. in cura 3.6 the default gcode flavor was marlin. IN cura 15.04.6 the default gcode flavor was reprap(marlin/sprinter). should I change the gcode flavor to reprap?? or is there something else causing this problem?
