I think it's not a problem of Cura. On my Linux machine establishing a /dev/ttyUSB0 connection with a baudrate of 250000 is not supported. I changed the Marlin settings to 115000 bps (search for 'serial' in Configuration.h). Now Cura connects fine. Don't forget to add your account to the dialout group. Good luck, Michael

Adding the user to group dialout is a necessary 1st step. After changing the baudrate of the (virtual) serial port from 250000 to 115000 in Marlin Configuration.h and uploading the new firmware, Cura on Linux connected to the printer without any problem.
