  1. Hi you all, I finally got the time to tackle this problem. I fully disassembled the Print Core and got the filament out. It broke of in the nozzle though. I used this video. See attached photos of the parts and the deformed filament. The thickest part was almost 4mm in diameter. Next I installed and needed to calibrate the core. The broken filament just melted out. I considered cleaning the core but that didn't seem necessary. The calibration went fine. Thank you for your support. Solved.
  2. Hi @AndersK and hi @neute, thank you for your input and help. I managed to remove the core. I used a scalpel to cut a small notch and the filament came lose when I applied some twisting to the pulling motion. Indeed there were some "hairs" in the fan. I did the full maintenance routine as I was half way done anyways after cleaning the feeders. Unfortunately the filament is stuck inside the core. See the pictures. I will read some more posts in the forum to find out how to safely remove the remaining filament.
  3. Hi @ all, I've got a really wired filament jam. The PLA filament somehow bulged at the top of the print core. See attached photo. Let me describe what I have done so far: - Saw, that the Ultimaker S5 didn't complete the print. "Material seems to be empty." It wasn't. - checked for twisted material as this sometimes happens. It wasn't. - tried to resume print but filament didn't move into feeder. - aborted print - unload filament didn't work. I thought it might got stuck or ground down in feeder. - turned off machine, removed bowden tube and opened feeder. - it was ground down but still couldn't remove filament from core. Cleaned and assembled feeder - snipped filament - tried "hot pull" core cleaning method - filament wouldn't move into core and i couldn't remove it either - noticed that filament diameter is bigger than the opening of the core - tried to remove core but the intentional left filament tail prevents removal. I left a tail to grab hold with pliers. Do you have any idea how to move forward?
  4. Unfortunately they did't say. Thanks, onward to the next issues that need tweaking, but that would be a different thread. Thanks for your help
  5. I managed it!! I reset to factory settings btw. I physically removed the Air Manager while the S5 was powered off, restarted the printer, turned it off again, set the Air Manager back on top of the printer, checked all cables attatched, and restarted the printer again and violà, the setup was completed without the mentioned prompt. So check the cables if the prompt keeps showing up lol.
  6. Some colleagues were in the office and kindly removed the prints from the bed. But they can't refill filament and do maintenance services. I was in office roughly once per week. We're connected via VPN and have access from home. And it still feels risky to start a print from remote and usually I avoid it, because I can't check if the first layer is perfect etc. That's why the two printers are connected via group and our IT department won't allow Digital Factory btw. Need to group them again, when the Air Manager is working properly. So far the firmware updates are successfully installed but the error with the Air Manger remains.
  7. Oh, thanks for the heads up! Currently updating both printers. Was working from home for the most time of the year so far and couldn't perform all necessary maintenance steps. Will report in a bit.
  8. Thanks for your reply. The printer is currently in a group, and it is NOT the host. Do I need to remove it from the group first to avoid further problems?
  9. Hi you all, during maintenance I removed the Air Manager and now I'm not sure if the Air Manager is working properly. I needed to clean the feeders and couldn't properly access all screws, notably the feeder tension bolt, so I removed the Air Manager while the S5 was powered off. I used this guide to remove the Air Manager and this guide to clean the feeders. After powering up the S5 the prompt pops up according to the guide: but in the settings menu it still says "Install", so I click it, the S5 then needs to reboot, and after reboot I'm to square one as the same prompt from above pops up. Unplugging Air Manager, turning off S5, turning on S5, plug in Air Manager, Install didn't help. What am I missing? Thanks in advance.
  10. Hey, are you sure you have the newest version of Cura installed? There was a bug with the "stair stepping" as mentioned here: https://github.com/Ultimaker/Cura/issues/7018 I don't know if it was fixed in Cura 4.4.1. Maybe you can check if the problematic layers were supported enough. Was this part printed with PLA and Breakaway? I had a similar looking issue and the suggested workaround solved the issue.
  11. Hi again, I was able to solve the issue with aligning the axles. Sadly following manual isn't available with pictures for the S5. Nonetheless the guide helped me. https://ultimaker.com/en/resources/50679-check-for-play-on-axles
  12. Hey @Minkeproducts, take a look at this manual. I successfully tightened the pulleys and belts today on a S5 with the manual. https://ultimaker.com/en/resources/50679-check-for-play-on-axles
  13. Hi Geert, I will check this with this (https://ultimaker.com/en/resources/52524-xy-offset-calibration) and this (https://ultimaker.com/en/resources/19953-aligning-the-axles) method. Thank you for your input.
  14. Hi, I have problems printing a box with a lid. The corners aren't perpendicular to each other, therefore I can't assemble the box. The box is totally slanted when assembled and I can't put my finger on it, why this happens. The Box and the lid individually lay flat. I printed the box three times so far with no luck. At first I thought the large bottom area causes the problem, so I designed a big hole in it. That did not help either. Maybe the filament is the problem? Please see attached pictures. I printed the last model upside down with a ton of support. The top layer isn't ideal either, that's why i think the material could be a problem. I hope someone has an idea.
  15. Hey @Sk7500 and @Adri-an, I had a similar problem a while back. It seems that ultimaker and breakaway need some "baby sitting" during preparation of a print. I keep an eye on the temperature of the nozzle and as soon as it reaches 150°C I brush away any oozing material with a wire brush. Just be careful not to hurt yourself with the temperature of the hot end and moving parts. Additionally I print a skirt with breakaway. This helps a lot, because I can identify immediately if there is a calibration offset as a skirt or similar adhesion is printed first. If there is a offset I cancel, clean and try again. (In this thread I described the problems that I had with PLA and Breakaway. I don't use prime blob anymore btw.)
  16. Thank you for clearing out that there were problems with your model. I printed it with above mentioned changes and it worked, too. There was only a little amount of stringing and a little debris inside. I can attach pictures if you like.
  17. Hi, I imported your model and cura indeed doesn't recognize the interior space. I set the infill to 0% and the top and bottom layers to 0mm. I sliced on fine- 0.1mm with generic PLA in a 0.4 AA core. Hope this works out for you as I didn't try to print it.
  18. I'm using a AA 0.4 print core for Breakaway.
  19. Hi again, @ johnse: I noticed something weird during yesterdays print, wich took 20h to print and turned out wonderful btw. I changed the extruder, which prints the skirt, to the second extruder which prints Breakaway support. I wanted to see immediately if the nozzle is too far away because the first layer often takes at least 30 min to print. Oddly the S5 did not print a prime blob with Breakaway and starts right away with the skirt and first layer of support. After that it printed a blob with the main material and a additional skirt. I think that this is not a setting in cura and coincidentally found out. Perhaps it is a feature? I haven't experimented with support blockers yet, but thanks for your detailed explanation. @ jones007: Maybe you can stop cura from filling small holes with support with the option Minimum Support Area? My colleagues and I are looking forward for the first insights from users with the new pro bundle and we consider buying one, too. At the time the filament is stored inside a box behind the printer and so far the sensor never failed.
  20. Thank you for your reply, jones. At least I'm not alone with the problem of oozing breakaway. I changed following settings Enable Retraction to true (checkbox ticked) Limit Support Retractions to False (checkbox not ticked) I left the retraction distance unchanged, because I didn't figure out which nozzle would be affected by this. The amount of the print blob is fine, perhaps a little too much because it sometimes sticks to the print core housing and strings all over the place. However it can be removed easily and is not an issue at all. It seems there is no other way than observing the start up and first layers and abort the print sometimes. Other than that, I'm really happy with this printer. Are there any other settings that can be tweaked?
  21. Thank you, johnse, for your reply. I'd like to comment my experiences: I can verify this behavior. The second nozzle oozes a little bit. The S5 levels with the first nozzle roughly 50 times. In between the second nozzle cools down to idle temperature (100°C). After that the second nozzle is again leveled against three points. If there is a blob, this will cause the nozzle be too far away during the print. There is no chance for me in between to bush this blob away and I can't pause during calibration. I cant't verify this, as I'm certain the material is loaded correctly. I tried to tackle this with my helper disks. I'll try prime blob next. It seems as I always have to abort once to produce some sort of small blockage on the extruder only to purge it again with prime blob or helper disks. This can't be right, can it? Over all this printer is awesome and produces nearly perfect prints. It just has some hiccups during starting sequence. Is there a way to pause during set up for me to intervene?
  22. Hi again, I wanted to share some pictures of my most recent print. First I checked the material flow manually and started a print, which I aborted, because the nozzle was too far away. So I tried again, this time with severe under extrusion on the first helper disk. Thankfully I placed a second one and the print came out ok afterwards. Additionally I tried to capture the cold blob, that causes my leveling problems. This was snapped after the leveling process and during the heating of the first extruder. (Tweezers for focus.)
  23. Thanks for your input, Geert. Since the printer is at my workplace, I can't make a mess with drying the waste water on newspapers. My colleagues wouldn't approve either. I get the printer to work but it is such a hassle atm. Some times I need to cancel the print multiple times until I get the perfect first layer. I even save the print on USB to avoid walking between my desk and the printer. I simply want to start a print without watching the entire setup routine. Maybe it is a bad batch of the Breakaway material. I don't know if it shows tendencies of oozing normally. I wanted to add, that I print with the recommended settings for generic PLA and Breakaway.
  24. Hi, we've got a brand new Ultimaker S5 at work and I've been experimenting with it so far. I've used tough PLA, generic PLA, PVA and Breakaway. We can't use PVA because of regulations of our towns water supplier. Therefore I started to work with Breakaway more and run into problems and I can't figure out what's going wrong. It seems to be either oozing or under extrusion and its never both at the same time. When the filament is oozing it results in a wrong distance of the nozzle to the bed during auto leveling, because Breakaway forms a blob which cools down and Ultimaker levels against the blob rather than the bed. When the filament is not oozing I'm dealing with under extrusion to the point that almost the entire first layer is only printed in small dots. Before I start a print I check if the material is able to flow out of the nozzle. After that I know I will be dealing with oozing. My setup routine is me standing beside the printer and wiping all oozing material away, hoping after calibrating the first nozzle no material will be stuck under the second one, because there is no time for me in between for brushing that blob away. I experimented with ooze shield and prime tower to deal with oozing during the print. The prime tower works best atm but it is far from perfect. There are some bits that get stuck in the main material. To deal with under extrusion I placed a helper disk and print it as support. I hope someone can help me figure out the problems as I don't know the normal behavior of Breakaway. Please see attached pictures of the problems i ran into. (Order of appearance: Breakaway wasn't printed, lost blob on print, Nozzle was too far away, under extrusion, under extrusion on first layer) Thanks PS I see that this is a recurring topic so this is somewhat similar to my problem.
