  1. Ive had this same problem on my S5 since i got it, all be it not as bad as yours. Mine seems to happen when the geometry of the print changes abruptly. Ive tightened everything down and still have the same issue. I still have a a month or so on a S3D subscription and will try to print the same model with as close to same settings as possible and use that to see if this is mechanical or software. This is printing using latest Cura, Engineering preset with 0.15 changed to 0.2 and thats it. what you have looks was more severe, check that your shafts are sticking to the pullys. you can do this by taking a black market and marking both at the point where they meet, reprint and see if they are no longer aligned. red lines on uploaded pictures show what i mean.
  2. This is almost certainly a scam. Won’t say how I know (don’t want to tip off scammer). We’ve seen some scams lately. Strongly recommend pickup printer only (not through mail). If they send you a photo of their license – that’s not good enough to trust them. -gr5 (moderator) Interested to sell my S5 It would come with Full sets of all standard nozzles + 1 x 0.6CC, an extra air filter for the air manager and some filament. Pictures of nozzle information are by far the most used. all maintenance done by the book. No damage of any kind and in perfect working order. 4000 € Ships from the Baltics. (the black thing between the doors is just some tape to prevent drafts)
  3. What is the prerequisite for jobs in the queue to have a preview of the models shown? Often mine will look like the attached screenshot.
  4. You are right, you didnt say that specifically. I have contacted support and have sent logs a few times, i think i also did so for the UM3 years ago but we never got it solved. I really hope its something that your teams are looking into and that it does one day get fixed. Other then this wifi issue ive had great support from Ultimaker so i dont want you to think i have all around bad feelings. I just hope you understand that its frustrating when the most expensive piece of equipment that we have what uses wifi does not stay connected to the software built for it. Has your team been able to reproduce the issue ever or is it like ghost hunting?
  5. No sorry thats just not meaningfully true anymore. Maybe in the extremes that you are talking about like putting your router near a microwave but in everyday normal use that you find in most offices and houses it's just not true. My S5 is about 2 meters from the wifi router which is in the ceiling behind ONE layer of gyproc. EVERYTHING else that connects to wifi in this office has a sustainable connection (or at least reconnects itself seamlessly so that ive never noticed) this includes, 3 smartwatches, 4 phones, 3 laptops, apple tv, a desktop running on wifi, home security cameras... everything runs without issue. You saying that wifi isnt a reliable enough technology to run a 3D printer on is kind of ridiculous. To be honest the Ultimaker itself is connected to the router via wifi and shows its MAC address is registered and everything. The broken part seems to be the printer connection to Cura or the cloud. Maybe this is where you need to look. Also the S5 does indeed see (and connect to) 5G connections from the router. We only have 5g in the office and when it stays connected, its via 5G There may be hundreds of printers that run ok on the specific wifi set up that you have tailored to your specific environment. Im just gonna guess here that you have sold many thousands of printers. There are constant complaints about the wifi connectivity of these printers and have been for years and years. This is really something you should look into instead of just saying that wifi as a technology isn't reliable enough and use a cable...
  6. Cura version 4.8.0 MACOS Video of problem: STL / 3mf Attached, made and exported with fusion 360 Body3.stl ARTIFACT UMS5_ec930335-e80d-4de7-85ea-50d81526dc65.3mf
  7. Thanks for all your help! I think you are right that the Alpha version was better, this makes me think its down to line heights and thicknesses and if they add up to a height thats divisible by the height. For example if the change is at 10mm and you have the layer height at 0.1 then it would be at the right height when it hits this change, But if you had the layer height at 0,15 then it would not be correct and would cause this problem more. This is just a guess and ive yet to test it. Will see if i get the chance...
  8. Yes unfortunately this is on every print where there is an abrupt change. There is play in the head, guess ill have to contact my reseller and see if its considered “too much”. To be honest I really hope thats the issue cause then at least there is a possibility to fix it
  9. Ok so heres the finished reprint on the alpha software. Not sure if its the software or that i doubled the triangle count or that i lowered the outerwall speed to 20 but its better. Still has a nasty band at the top and at the bigger change near the middle, none of which are visa le in preview
  10. downloaded the alpha, will give it a try. Here are some pictures of what was printed overnight. Unfortunately this is not something i can handover to client. interesting note that i think it is indeed software related and not a layer shift as the inside is printed beautifully and without the errors....... if only i can find out how to swap outside for inside.
  11. Hei. Thanks for the advice but im not sure what you mean by new version of cura. I am indeed on 4.8, is there a newer one? The printer is well maintained and everything greased / oiled. Not sure what you mean here :S ive added a picture of the whole model currently printing and it has the same issues. thanks!
  12. Hi all, So this happens on alot of models on my S5 and so here i am looking for a solution. At the point where the model has an abrupt change or goes from "C"shaped lines to "O" shaped lines(that go from back and forth to all the way around the model) there is often what seems like a missing outer wall line or that the print head is no longer where it should be for one layer. Please see the attached picture & 3mf file. This is using Cura 4.8 and latest S5 Firmware Thanks! IMG_0241.pdf Small Black Scanner Cover.3mf IMG_0245.pdf
  13. @sj3fk3 Neither of my Ultimakers (3 Extended, S5) have ever worked on wifi reliably. Nor does the one at the Uni that ive worked with or the Ultimakers resellers demo machine. Basically 4/4 does not work reliably on wifi. The idea that wifi isnt as stable as ethernet is a 10+yr old idea that does not really make sense today. If you are in an office thats got tons of glass walls then maybe yea but my router is and has been less then 3m away from the machine, still disconnects constantly from both network and cloud. I and im sure many other people would really appreciate a real explanation for this. Is it just a weak chip? coded for a specific router and we should look for some specifics when choosing an router? Help us out here other then saying its our machine with no way of actually fixing it.
  14. Glad to hear the 2nd one is known and being looked into. I hope this connection issue is fixed in the next release, but im a little sceptical. Im not sure if its a hardware or software limitation but its been around since ive had ultimaker products (about 5 years) across 2 machines, nor am i the first, second or third person to report it, so it seems hardware related and something that wasent addressed in the making of the S5. I understand that there can be several things that can cause issues with wifi but certainly not so many that they can not have been fixed by now.
  15. Can we just not have metal blocks that screw together and hold the bar permanently?
  16. What it says on the tin. When the S5 has a failed nozzle probe , which is 1/4 prints or so for me, it will perform one of two behaviours and ive no idea what they depend on. nozzle probe fails and after the cooldown cycle tries to probe again, almost always the 2nd time works with no interference from me nozzle probe fails and after the cooldown cycle pretends that it finished the print (you can see in cura that it thinks it finishes a multi hour print in a minute. Im of the opinion that after a failed probe the UM5 should ask if you wish to try again. Either way i dont think this should count the print as finished and remove it from the que.
  17. So I've been holding off writing this for 2 months or so as time is scarce these days but i cant take it anymore. Maybe someone where can help. Mac Version Cura 4.8.0 Mac OS 11.1 Router EPC3940L Problems: Cura / Ultimaker S5 do not stay connected to each other and cannot print over wifi network. No, i cant use a LAN cable. Reproduction - After turning on the UM5 it connects to the newwork fine. router shows its mac and IP addresses are active and connected. Cura will find the printer and be able to print via network. After printing for an undetermined amount of time checking cura again to put another print in que you can find that cura does not see the UM5 anymore. The router shows that UM5 is connect and active as before. What Ive Done - I have reported this problem to UM Support. sent logs and the answer i got was to use Digital Factory. Digital factory has the same problems but worse. Digital factory will be connected on first start of the UM5 and Cura but disconnect after a seemingly random amount of time. Often the printer is lost from the digital factory entirly and i have to re add it as if it was never there. Work around - restart the printers wifi connection or the computer running cura to be able to upload one more print. 2. Objects in Cura become unselectable and unable to be manipulated. Reproduction - Slice a model in cura, sent to print and then after printing confirmation close the laptop lid or put the computer to sleep. wait 10 min. wake the computer back up and try to move the models, they will not be able to be clicked at all. Work around - restart cura and try again. 3. Not a problem that can be fixed via software but definitely something i was not expecting...... How is a premium printer sold these days still not using silent stepper drivers? This thing is LOUD I would echo the rest of the those with similar problems that ive read on here. Why does this premium printer have any issues at all with wifi? These are the SAME type of issues i had with my UM3E and i had believed " certainly these are solved with their new flagship printer" turns out i was wrong. Please please get this fixed, i would like to be able to keep this printer and justify being able replace it with another ultimaker when the time comes. Thanks
  18. Hei. Tried it and its Peetri quite under the printer. Its coming from inside. Maybe a stepper motor? Guess I should get in contact with the reseller and ask about warrenty
  19. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately dimming the light between 0 and 100% makes no difference in the pitch or volume of the whine. Nor does raising or lowering the bed 😞
  20. Hi, Have had an S5 for about a week or 2 now and since day one its been making this high pitched whining sound coming from inside the machine. Sounds like how capacitor whine sounds in old video cards. It's causing some people to be quite annoyed in the office.
  21. I have this same issue since firmware update, i just updated 2 days ago and it giving me this error. im on firmware 5.8.0
  22. I had a similar issue with the seam alignment causing tiny tiny bumps. If your looking at the same type of problem check out the solution in the post tiny tiny bumps. @Torgeir was a lot of help ! If this does fix your issue please give him the credit 🙂
  23. The combo seems to have fixed it, can’t find any more dots. Thanks! Maybe ultimaker should update the visual profile
  24. S5 with air manager. i cant seem to add the output from cura which is a ufp file EDIT> Added the 3MF file that should include the models and exact settings i used to print them Scanner Covers.3mf
  25. Hi and thanks for the detailed reply! I raised the poly count from 6,000 to 42,000 and am unable to increase further in Fusion 360. and indeed the number of loops reduced. However they are not gone 😞 In this case and basically any im in where there is a client waiting for the product printing time is important. at 0.15 this takes 1,5 days. at 0,1mm its 2 days and 13 hrs. As this had to be done over the weekend i could not have printed at this resolution and made the handover. I was hoping for a setting something like "Do not make small travel loops on the wall" @ultimaker team Is this a known issue thats in the backlog? Will this be fixed? It seems that these loops should not be there regardless of poly count. Do they have a function?
