  1. I am trying to imbed steel weight into a print to make it heavy. It would be nice to have a feature where you can stop the print at a certain layer to then place the metal in. Does this already exist? I currently just babysit the printer until it get to the right layer(s). I have a UM S5 Pro Bundle and use Cura.
  2. The company I work for recently bought about 20 printers, all UMS5 Pros I believe. We have been going through a lot of material and wasting some. I feel bad throwing away bad prints or the ends of spools. I have started looking at recycling or re extruding filament to print with again. Does anyone have any experience with this? I have looked at the Filabot but that is very expensive. The ReDeTec ProtoCycler seems to be a more reasonable priced machine. Do you recommend a different machine? How does the filament print after being re extruded? I know you can not mix materials. I mainly print with PETG but I do not know what the other people use. I would guess PLA or ABS. How long do these machines last? In order to justify it we would have to have the machine pay it self off over 4 years or less. With the ProtoCycler that is $73 a month or 1.5 spools (750 grams, $50 a spool) a month we would need to make. This seems reasonable with 20 printers making waste. Is there a company in the US that takes 3-D printer filament to re extrude or recycle? Does anyone pay for it? Just looking for ways to not be so wasteful with all the printer we are doing.
  3. Okay, I will try that next time, thanks!
  4. I started this print Friday afternoon and it was done by Monday morning. It was supposed to be a U channel. At some point either in cooling down or printing it warped. Why did this happen? What can I do to fix it? I was printing four at the same time. Approximately 12" x 2" x 3.5", UMS5 Pro, UM PETG, 0.8 mm nozzle, Standard Cura settings, either 20 or 100% infill.
  5. I have started 3-D printing with a UMS5 Pro Bundle at work. I currently have 6 materials in the Material Station but need to print another material/add a spool of the same as I near the end of the original spool. What is the shelf life of all the UM materials? I currently have tough PLA, ABS, TPU 95A, Nylon, CPE+, and PETG in the Material Station. What is the best material to remove that won't get bad from sitting in the open? I do have PVA but have not opened it yet. I believe I had read that Nylon or ABS does not like siting in the open. Any information would be helpful. Thanks
  6. I was running Engineering 0.15 but I really should have changed that to at least draft 0.2 or higher. If I print anything else like this I will probably buy a AA 0.8 print core. I had forgotten about the other print cores. That sounds like an interesting test! I may have to try it if I have more big parts to print. At 60 mm/s I noticed the bed was shaking. I think this was due to the nozzle running into infill when printing infill. I did have 70% infill. I then realized that the print would finish over the weekend one way or another so I backed it down to 30 mm/s and decided to leave it there. Attached is a picture of what I printed. It is a mallet, or prototype mallet, to see if we like this design more than what we currently have. I fully expect it to break in the first couple hits but we should know if we like it by then.
  7. I am printing basically a big block where print quality does not matter. How fast can I print? It is a two day print so I would like to speed it up. I already have a few base layers that I did slow. UMS5 Pro UM Tough PLA Currently at 200% print speed of originally 30 mm/s All other settings default
  8. No, I haven't thought about this. It seems like a good idea. The current nozzles are around 50 duro and the maintenance people did say that they used to be harder back in the day. I will look into this. I was hoping to make it with the 3-D printer but this may be a better option.
  9. I think you understood it well. I appreciate the ideas. I may try this with the only ABS ones I have printed (I didn't have nylon when I made them but just got nylon yesterday). I need to understand how the old ones are failing because the heat shrink tube may fail sooner than the current nozzles and still require the machine to be down to fix.
  10. In the manufacturing process for tape we make a shaft is aired up to 90 psi to expand the shaft. This allows the spools of product to slide off when the air is released. We have been using store bought air gun nozzles (Picture 1 circled in red). We are burning through these every 2-3 days per machine, multiplied by 4-5 machines running 24/7 at $3.50 a piece it adds up. I was tasked with 3-d printing a replacement that was cheaper and lasted longer. I started with just ABS (pictures next to store bought). I realized that ABS won't seal the shaft and therefore won't inflate the shaft. I bought some Black UM TPU 95A to make a flexible tip to seal. I used White ABS on the bottom and made some "zig zags" to transition from ABS to TPU. I originally had a cone with a hole in it to make up the nozzle (#1). This was way to stiff to seal. I then made a hollow cone with a wall thickness of 0.03 inches (#2). This provided a lot more flexibility but the "Z" (up) direction was still really stiff. The "Z" is the part that needs to seal and it would be nice if it was softer. The design may need to be changed to achieve this. The issue with my first and second successful print was there was a under-extruded part 1/3 of the way up which when pushed side to side it expanded and looks to leak or fail there and did when I pushed to hard on #1. I then changed the flow settings to 130% instead of 106% (#3). I also changed the retraction to 20-30 mm?? because the TPU was leaking out and caused blobs and possibly some "under-extrusion" layers where material wouldn't stick on #1 and #2. This provided a smooth finish and no under-extrusion but is very stiff and may not seal. I am waiting for them to go on the machines but need to find some time when we are less busy in case they fail fast. I thought it would be helpful to document this process and also ask for help with making a flexible air tight part. I am cutting 1/8" NPT threads into the ABS. Some parts I have yet to cut the threads in yet.
  11. I'll try that once my print is done. Thanks!
  12. I have a UMS5 Pro. It is connected via ethernet and I can't get the camera to work. It has worked before but then the ethernet went out do to an IT issue. Since fixing the ethernet and sending prints through Cura I can not get the camera to work, both in Cura and on the browser version. Any ideas? I have already reset the printer and unplugged the ethernet and plugged it back in.
  13. You shouldn't need to use Digital Factory. I have 6.1 and I can still use my ethernet connection. I believe it is only with the firewall on do you need to use Digital Factory.
  14. I have a UM-S5 Pro. I am trying to print cylinders and have had a line going up the print every time. As the print head is going around I see it hit this glob and "jump" from the impact. I am not sure what settings to change to get rid of the line. Any tips would be appreciated. ABS with 0.4 nozzle, 1.2 mm wall thickness, standard Cura settings, haven't changed anything except type of infill.
  15. As a last ditch effort I tried several ethernet ports through out the building with a new cord. First 3 no luck but the fourth works! Turns out I just got really unlucky and right around the update (I don't use the printer everyday) the port I was using stopped and the other ports I tried before didn't work even though we just had them put in. So at least now I know the issue and it is an IT issue now. Thanks for the help!
  16. Yes I have. Still no luck. What would cause the ethernet to not turn on? Not plugged in, no ethernet detected, machine doesn't want to?
  17. I have upgraded to 6.1. I am still unable to connect to ethernet. I have tried connecting with the USB and have not been able to get it to work yet. I know the IP address, subnet, gateway, and DNS. Using the file Ultimaker provides I wrote, (I put the numbers in don't worry) [service_ethernet] Type = ethernet IPv4 = IP address/subnet/gateway IPv6 = off Nameservers = DNS I had no luck with this. I can't seem to get this printer connected to the ethernet.
  18. Don't worry I wouldn't try it as the website has made it clear it won't work. I uploaded 6.0 again and the printer seemed to behave better but still no luck with ethernet. I also tried factory reset per @SandervG but still no luck.
  19. I have double checked with IT and they say the problem is with the printer. I have also asked other plants inside the company who also have the same 3-D printer S5 with Pro Bundle and all upgraded to the 6.0 firmware and no one else had this issue. The printer does not seem to be behaving the same either. It did not eject ABS after two hours sitting in the parked location. The printer has been unused in the past 3 days but the nozzles have a blue light on them and the print head is not the "home" location all the way in the back left. It is in the back middle. I am trying to download the firmware again but the links seem broken in the posts and can't seem to download it again.
  20. It was connected through ethernet and still is plug into the port (and should work). It is possible IT has to work on something to get approved and I am working on that with them already.
  21. I have read the article and tried to connect to Digital Factory but the printer won't allow me to click on Digital Factory. Is wifi needed to use digital factory? The firewall appears to be off already as well.
  22. We updated to the 6.0 firmware per my company's request. Since then I haven't been able to connect to the printer through ethernet which worked before the update. I know 6.0 changes network security but what is the right way to connect to the printer after updating to the 6.0
