If these are files that have printed fine before now then try cleaning the nozzle, check the front fan is working continuously at and above 40C or maybe you might need to dry the filament.

Auto bed levelling failures are maddening, the front fan seems to be usual cause as the wires tend to shear off the solder and produce electrical interference. The usual switch off switch back on sometimes helps, reslicing and resending the print appears to occasionally help too particularly with a not reaching the bed case or compressing the springs till the stepper overloads. We have found that not using WiFi but rather the ethernet port has helped alot and incidently with digital factory problems and bizarrely black screen lock outs. Going back a firmware version is worth try also.

Agreed these are niche features from the hobbyist standpoint however the S line upwards are marketed as professional machines and are quite locked into using Cura which again is put forward as a professional system. Ultimaker provides plugins for all the main CAD platforms which is great but not having the same spin zoom pan setup as your CAD system is a pain when it is the day job rather than a hobby.

Whether one size is better than the other or which 3d printer is the best or fastest isn't really important, but certainly a machine with no filament in it will struggle!🙂

Do we have to install Rawmouse to use a spacemouse or is it built into 5.7 preferences now?
-
That's right, colour choice is certainly where the big difference between the two filament sizes is. The S series are certainly reliable workhorse machines however I've never regarded them as factory machines (nothing wrong with that) maybe not for the hobbyist but more office/design studio very small scale niche batch at a push kit. Just would have been nice to see some development generally of the S3 and S5 platforms over the years, filament size options, direct drive options and maybe even some control board and coms choices. There were a couple of incremental design advancements but these went into the S7 and Factor 4 machines with "incremental" prices increases.

Definitely check the front fan is running continuously at and above 40C if not you will see under extrusion like this, although you usually get an error thrown up on screen. Very likely your nozzle is clogged, do some warm and cold pulls, can take a many many tries before you finally pull out the blockage!

because the dominant filament size is 1.75mm
-
Surprising that there isn't a conversion kit available from Ultimaker by now.

It is becoming difficult to get hold of 2.85mm filaments in a lot of cases now. Surprising that there isn't a conversion kit available from Ultimaker by now.

Sounds like the machine is cold. Without running a print, try setting the bed temp to 60 degrees and leaving it to warm up for 20min or so then try again.
-
I had this happen, tried everything you have. What fixed it in the end was to go back a firmware version from 8.2.1 to 8.2.0.

The feature should be made available again, waiting for everything to cool down only to wait for everything to heat up again is a frustrating waste of time and energy especially in the case of an aborted print.

where did the skip cooldown option go??

no longer available

Generally materials aren't compatible i.e. they all (pla, abs, pets, pa) require different settings. Or are you meaning material brand compatibility?
-
Unless there is a plugin for automatically scaling available somewhere you are stuck with manually scaling each time. As far as I'm aware Cura only works in mm.
-
Only because I have done it myself a few times, but have you got PLA running on PETG settings? Looks like could be running too hot and curling where the shallow overhang starts.
-
Yes the cold pulls work well at that temp for both. I assume it is more about keeping the nozzle heat expanded enough to not grip the filament solid!?
-
About 90 degrees Celsius I think, don't think GR5 was trying to be condescending:)

Useful Cura related information in the Cura forum, don't see a problem with this.

It is a significant ongoing cost for fairly basic quite often essential functionality.

The subscription version of Cura supports STEP files amongst others.

Wood filament does wear away brass nozzles surprisingly quickly, need a hardened steel nozzle really.
Printing error - Filament too thin!

Outer wall speed looks quite high, trying halving it and drop the inner wall speed a little too.
