.. update .. Well well.. within the time it took to write my OP, cura crashed and allowed me to submit the crash report to ultimaker. Hope that helps the team. Performing the backup and settings wipe allowed Cura to start and set up a new profile for my printer. Hint, just let it keep trying to open it will finally fail with a message, may take a couple minutes.
