  1. Does anyone know if the custom supports plugin will be available for Cura 5? I really like the custom supports in Cura 4.X. (SOLVED) The plugin can be downloaded from here: https://github.com/5axes/CustomSupportCylinder/releases
  2. Hi everyone! So I'm slowly getting better prints using Cura. Now my problem is with supports being difficult to remove. I've tried several different settings using tree supports, but I'm still having problems removing the supports. I'm attaching my current settings. Any suggestions? Thanks! zog
  3. Which drivers are you using? I know in the past that I have had problems with OpenGL due to not having the proper video drivers installed. Go to Software Settings -> Additional Drivers and see if there are any drivers for your card.
  4. Hi everyone! I'm getting better prints with Cura, but I'm still having some problems. Here's an example of my most recent tests: The stringing I can deal with, this is PETG, so stringing is expected. But there is a roughness to my prints, especially on the back of the Y axis. Here is a pic of a fan duct that I printed: Currently I'm printing PETG @235c/80c 60mm/s. I have "combing mode" set to "Not on skin". My e-steps have been calibrated along with my retraction. Any suggestion on how to improve my print quality? Thanks! zog
  5. Hi @ahoeben, thanks for the reply! Yeah, I did have spiralize turned on. I think that I was playing with it after reading on how to speed up my prints. Unfortunately, turning it off changed my print time from 1h 35m to 6h 57m! 😞 All in all though, I fairly happy with Cura 5, I can't wait until the stable version is released!
  6. I'm having a strange problem with Cura 5 beta. I'm trying to print out a 120mm fan guard and I'm getting some strange stringing. I checked in the slice preview and the strings are in the preview. However, when I jump back to Cura 4, the strings go away: Am I missing a setting somewhere? Or is this supposed to be like this? Thanks!
  7. Hi @GregValiant I cleared my Cura profiles from my %appdata% folder and now everything is working properly. Not sure how I messed things up, but yeah. I hear what you saying about the quality on the Ender 3. I've had mine for two months and I've already upgraded my board to a BigTree SKR Mini E3 V3. The noise off of the steppers on the stock board was insane. I have also changed the PSU fan, hotend fan, aluminum extruder and a direct drive mount form Thingiverse. I have a Micro Swiss hotend coming in and a Titan Extruder. My bargain priced printer is a little more expensive that I had anticipated! I probably should have saved a little more and gone with an Ender 5... would have spent a little less than my current setup! I'm still learning Cura, I think that I need to take more careful notes of what changes that I make. Thanks four your help! zog
  8. So my problem seems to be Cura. I resliced with superslicer and everything is printing properly. Not sure what I have set wrong in Cura.
  9. Hi everyone! I'm not sure if I'm having a hardware problem or a software problem, but my Ender 3 Pro's extruder starts skipping at the same point in the print. The initial layers go down nicely, then the extruder starts skipping: I've tried restarting the print several time. I have also tried raising the hotend temperature, with the same results. I have also tried printing other models, also with the same results. Here are my Cura settings: ; Script based on an original created by tjjfvi (https://github.com/tjjfvi) ; An up-to-date version of the tjjfvi's original script can be found ; here: https://csi.t6.fyi/ ; Note - This script will only work in Cura V4.2 and above! ; --- Global Settings ; layer_height = {layer_height} ; smooth_spiralized_contours = {smooth_spiralized_contours} ; magic_mesh_surface_mode = {magic_mesh_surface_mode} ; machine_extruder_count = {machine_extruder_count} ; --- Single Extruder Settings ; speed_z_hop = {speed_z_hop} ; retraction_amount = {retraction_amount} ; retraction_hop = {retraction_hop} ; retraction_hop_enabled = {retraction_hop_enabled} ; retraction_enable = {retraction_enable} ; retraction_speed = {retraction_speed} ; retraction_retract_speed = {retraction_retract_speed} ; retraction_prime_speed = {retraction_prime_speed} ; speed_travel = {speed_travel} G28 ;Home G29 ; BLT G92 E0 ;Reset Extruder G1 Z2.0 F3000 ;Move Z Axis up G1 X10.1 Y20 Z0.28 F5000.0 ;Move to start position G1 X10.1 Y200.0 Z0.28 F1500.0 E15 ;Draw the first line G1 X10.4 Y200.0 Z0.28 F5000.0 ;Move to side a little G1 X10.4 Y20 Z0.28 F1500.0 E30 ;Draw the second line G92 E0 ;Reset Extruder G1 Z2.0 F3000 ;Move Z Axis up Any suggestions? Thanks! zog
  10. Hi everyone! I have been doing some really nice prints, but suddenly, my G29 command in Cura doesn't seem to be working. Here's my gcode from Cura: Start G-code: G28 ;Home G29 ; BLT G92 E0 ;Reset Extruder G1 Z2.0 F3000 ;Move Z Axis up G1 X10.1 Y20 Z0.28 F5000.0 ;Move to start position G1 X10.1 Y200.0 Z0.28 F1500.0 E15 ;Draw the first line G1 X10.4 Y200.0 Z0.28 F5000.0 ;Move to side a little G1 X10.4 Y20 Z0.28 F1500.0 E30 ;Draw the second line G92 E0 ;Reset Extruder G1 Z2.0 F3000 ;Move Z Axis up Before, my CR Touch would probe 25 points and the it would wipe the nozzle, now when I start a print, the CR Touch auto homes and then the nozzles without probing 25 points. Not sure what I did, but if someone could point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated! Thanks! zog [EDIT] I think that the problem is that I compiled my firmware worng. I'm going to recompile and see how it goes from there.
  11. Thanks @GregValiant! Right now my son can't find my Raspberry Pi, so I'm running Windows off of a Dell 9020 Micro to run my webcams for monitoring. I'll give you app a try as soon as my current print is done.... right now I'm on the tail end of a 15 hour print, so I don't want to breath anywhere near the printer in fear of messing something up! I'll give it a try later and let you know how it went.
  12. Wow! That's really nice work! I didn't know that you could embed objects into the print as it was printing. I tried to start my day with PLA, however, I accidentally loaded some HIPS in to my filament dryer. I have to dry the filament that I'm using because it's over 5 years old and has been sitting in a box, in my balcony storage closet, with temperature swings of 35c in the summer and -25c in the winter! I managed to get a so-so print out of it, but bed adhesion was a problem; I'm putting the HIPS back into the box until my skill level goes up. Once the PLA was dry, I was able to get some really good quality prints, although I had some very minor lifting on one corner: Other than that, a really nice job; Thanks for all of your help @GregValiant!
  13. I went into Cura and found the z hop settings. The only thing that I could change was the z hop speed, which I set to 0: I ran another test print and I have better results now: Gaa! I understand that there are a lot of variables in 3D printing, room temp, ambient humidity etc, but I can't wait until these thing just plug in and work!
  14. I just ran a retraction test with this model: Quick Stringing / Retraction Test Here is my results: I'll try to make the changes that you recommended to my Cura settings. BTW, since I'm a beginner, would I be better off with ABS instead of PETG? I'm nervous about PLA due to it's sensitivity to heat.
  15. So success, (mostly). I ran a print through and I got meh, OK results: Obviously I have some Googling and tweaking to do but I am printing and my print is centered and adhering to the bed. Thanks for the help @GregValiant, really appreciate it! [EDIT] This print was done with eSun PETG @80c for the bed and initially 240 for the extruder. I started having strings and I lowered the extruder to 235. However, that's when the print started getting the rougher appearance.
